  • I was very fortunate to be invited down to Marshall to have a look round there incredible factory and to play some great amps.
    The JTM 45 Hand wired, the brand new and not yet released Silver Jubilee re issue, 1974 combo (Which I love!) and a 1962 Bluesbreaker.
    It was a lot of fun! :)

    No other amp manufacturer or sound like that on the planet - still to this day! I don't care for the Peaveys, Boogies and all these alternative formulas a lot of harder players are using. Marshall is still the best for ANY genre - no matter how heavy. People can flame them all they want, especially here in the states. Even if I were to do two amps at once, one of them would be a Marshall. They are that good.

      Christopher Taylor There's a reason why they've been around as long as they have :)

    Nice through hole PCBs, nice and old-skool, just the way we still learned in college.
    I love this little docu you made Mike! AWESOME!
    In all honesty I have not used my Marshall in 20 maybe even 25 years. I always had a love hate relationship with it. The sounds is great, I mean that but they were a pain to maintain for a gigging musician.
    We sometimes played 3 venues during an evening so the amps had no time to cool down. They were rushed of stage, pushed into the cold van and we were off to the next venue.
    So the valves kept breaking and I actually had several spares with me and I became very handy at undoing all the screws and changing them -- and it's a pain with Marshalls because they are never made with serviceability in mind -- so really lots of screws 6 or 8 easily. And at time the tube sockets would crack as well so you had to replace those pffff...
    So at one day I was so fed up with that and I came across Fender Deluxe 112 solid states. Great sound, great drive as well and for that tube sound I just had a tube pre-amp (had 3 because also those didn't last too long but they were cheap enough and changed the cheaper valves in my spare time).
    So the last 25 years I've been completely solid state. And still people don't believe that the sound I create is from solid state amps. First of all solid state is always a cleaner signal than a tube and dirtying it up is trivial. I have never had a transistor stage being broken in my Deluxes (I did blow up a speaker on occasion) and Mustangs.
    And those Mustang modelling amps are so amazing and so much fun! And put those on a 4x12 Celestion speakers cab. and wow!
    Rob Chapman demoed one about 3 or 4 years ago and I just had to buy one. And because I am no longer a stage musician just in and around the house it really delivers what I want. It can mimic the sound of a loud heavy amplifier in a tuned down "keep the neighbours happy" restraint sound. That I could never do with my big solid states and tube amps. Those need to be set loud to get that sound you want :D
    But there's something that I've always liked about Marshalls, I really don't know what it is. And especially a Marshall in combination with a Gibson has something miraculous. I never liked Fenders through Marshalls a lot, for that I loved VOXes better.

    Jim Marshall's old shop is just down the road from my place (the one that's now a hair dressers). We have an annual mini music festival in Hanwell that's sponsored by Marshall.

    I've been thinking about getting the Marshall Jubilee to replace my Orange Rockerverb 100. What were your overall thoughts of it?

    Cool tour! Why wouldn't someone at Marshall go down to the former shop, and pay one of the hair cutters to let them remove the original plaque??

    Do you think it would be wise to get a JTM45 since it doesn't have a master volume and I want to use it not only at rehearsals with a band, but also at home?

    • @MikeBradleyofficial
      @MikeBradleyofficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Max Guits well, to get some dirt you would need to crank it. Or of course use a dirt pedal

    • @MaxCarton
      @MaxCarton 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think it would sound ok at bedroomlevels with a spark booster or a tubescreamer? :)
