    Funny how nobody understood the Star Trek's phasers reference when Ariel said that he liked to set his overdrives to "stun" :) Fantastic episode! Keep it up guys.

    Adding on to the mention of non-synced tremelo, could you guys do a show about non-synced/non-tap tempo effects in general? Like delay, tremelo, and modulations?

    Just recently discovered the Bros. Landreth, they are amazing, great to hear and see such an inspiring slide player at That Pedal Show, Ariel sounded amazing, no matter what pedals were used, so maybe another lesson from this show: Practice more, spend less time worrying about your gear : )

      +Sören Jordan We wouldn't disagree Sören. However, a really inspiring tone can push that playing on ever further. Thanks for watching!

      While I agree that it's the player, not the gear, gear can inspire the player and thus make him play better. That's how it works for me

    A great video. Ariel is a fabulous player and it was fascinating to hear the different mixes of pedals. I'm a big fan of Lowell George and love compression (I have Slide Rig serial number 008!) and also love tremolo (Ry Cooper's "Feeling Bad Blues" is one of my favourite slide tunes). I also use reverb from my Blues Junior to get a slightly "spacy" effect. Bring back Ariel for more videos!

    Slide is such a challenge for me. It's all about the muting. And impossible to do it right without fingerpicking.
    And the behind the slide Sonny Landreth stuff is mindblowing.

    6:03 exactly describes how I use my amp these days- crank it to 10 for your over the top solo sound that cuts through the band, then dial your guitar back from there. You get everything that the amp is capable of at your fingertips.

    G'day Mick & Dan. Hello from Queanbeyan, Australia. I hope you are well in the UK! Sorry the Covid has stuffed you up soooo bad. We are very lucky here in Australia. Late to watch this video. I thought i was watching fairly carefully but I didn't catch what tuning Ariel was using here in this video. What an amazing guitar player! I hope you reply. Dan, I don't know if you got familiar with Wasp/Holden valve Amps before you left Aus. I have a small collection. Getting some great sounds out of them.

    When you are wearing the slide and you fret notes behind the slide, you don't have to move the slide off the strings at all, because fretting notes pushes the strings you are fretting below the slide (so they are not touching). Sonny Landreth talks about this in a bunch of interview/lessons.

Mick had something going when he talked of the Flint which made me think - how about an episode on dual purpose pedals like the Flint, a number of new JHS' and a load of other reverb/modulation pedals and why are most paired as reverb/modulation and not so much as fuzz/chorus or the like? Love the show and good work guys... oh and love my new t-shirt from you as well

    Good Morning from Canada! First off, I love the show; it has become part of my Friday morning ritual. I've learned so much about the guitar and its signal chain from you guys. Although I'm primarily a Bass player, I have a renewed interest in playing guitar after many years of almost no guitar playing. I even bought my first Tele (thanks Dan, for waking that demon). I have managed to develop a pedal purchase habit that has become irksome to the "Ministry of Finance". I tell her it is in the name of science and good experimentation. A show that might be interesting is how using wireless affects the signal going in to the pedal board. To me it seems logical that the only way to get a true signal is to use a lead so that the pedals can interact properly with the guitar's pickups. One last thing, in case nobody mentioned it... the North American equivalent of "Chalk and Cheese" would be "Apples and Oranges". Thank you so much for all the great information, education, and entertainment. Cheers!

    Great episode guys. Mick mentioned a possible future episode featuring The Kingsley Maiden and Page running through a loop. My Maiden, Page DS, and Harlot are still a month out. I'd love to see you guys do an episode that includes the Maiden. So far there are no demos for it. Also want to mention that Simon is such a great guy to deal with and his pedals are 2nd to none. • @ForViewingOnly
    @ForViewingOnly 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Such tasteful playing and tones, and Dan could be on Top of the Pops with those guitar miming skills. Guys, can I ask if the Kingsley Page is the ODS version or the standard boost. I'm guessing it might be the ODS because you are feeding a preamp-level (line-level?) signal into it and the output goes to the FX return? Thanks.

    • @mattsnyder4754
      @mattsnyder4754 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ForViewingOnly ODS only has one switch. It's a normal one in the video.

    • @ForViewingOnly
      @ForViewingOnly 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's interesting because a preamp (the Maiden) will put out a strong line-level signal, which is what you normally want to feed into a power amp or the FX Return of an amp. But in this case the preamp is connected to a standard Page, which I'm guessing is more 'instrument-level'. Maybe the FX Return of the amp in this case is using the lower level -10dbv.

    • @PPIMV
      @PPIMV 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the Page DS (can't call it the "ODS" any more) now has two switches as well - a "lows" switch and a "Mode" switch - like the regular Page (have not up-dated my site yet...). Also on the "DS" version each switch has 3 positions. I am presuming the one in the video is the Page DS....
      Simon Jarrett

    • @PPIMV
      @PPIMV 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The regular Page handles hot input signals (including line level) just fine - of course it overdrives more, but you can always back off it's gain control...

    This is great. Thanks. Ariel is great. His slide at times reminds me of George Harrison, and he tosses bits of songs by, or covered by, The Beatles relatively frequently into playing in these kinds of videos (there was a bit of ' 'Til There Was You' and what sounded like 'Let It Be' in this one), so I wonder if he likes or has been influenced by George.
    In addition to seeing Ariel on TPS I really enjoy seeing Mick and Danish Pete, and Danish Pete and Ariel together on the Anderton's channel.

    A (probably stupid) question popped into my head and I'm not really sure where to ask, so I thought this is as good a place as any. Is the speaker cable used for guitar amp/cab the same as that used from a power amp for a PA?
    Basically, I have some jack to jack speaker cables from my old PA setup. My new ones are Speakon to jack cables. I just wanted to check if it is worth me holding on to my old jack to jack speaker cables as spares for connecting my guitar amp head to its cab.

    You know, he brought up an amazing concept that totally helped my slide playing. He said you need to get a slide that "fits your finger." BOOM! My problem was not having stability or a good fit. My slide is a half sized glass one that is way wider than my finger. It ALWAYS slips, resulting in a pathetic, squeaky, scrapping, awful, weak sound. After this show, I began to put in on my middle finger, bracing it with my index and ringer finger. Totally nails a good sound when it's stable! I guess I don't have to buy a new one!

    We want Kingsley pedals in Europe! :-)

      @ForViewingOnly 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get them to Europe via Canadian post! ;-) Kingsley pedals are hand-made by one man, Simon Jarrett, in Canada, and he's got a 2 month waiting list at the moment so I don't think there will be a European distributor.

      ForViewingOnly Good point. The problem is that it's kind of difficult to calulate the exact price of an item sent from outsider the EU. I live in Denmark. And we got a shit load of different taxes :-)

    Another great episode but the title is wrong. You typed "Ariel Posen", when you meant to type "Christian Bale".

    You guys with your bloody pedals! I still think plugging straight in gives the best tone usually, but then I have no pedals (a-ha!), except for a wha-wha, but don't consider that a pedal - more like another instrument. Ariel is a sublime maestro - I loves his playing...thanks guys!!!

      I had somebody like you in last week to help him sort out his rig. Mick here. He came in an amp guy because he was emotionally connected to not ‘cheating’ with pedals. Needless to say, once he’d heard a few things, he went home an amp and pedal guy. :0)

    Part of the reason I watch these videos is because of you two, having a guest ruins it a bit for me. I'd rather see you guys play slide badly than this dude play it well. If I want to see him play there are, I'm sure, hundreds of videos for that. Just my preference.

    As someone else wrote it's all about the muting. both left and right hand muting. it's how i pick a slide player from a regular player. like bass players they always muting strings that they don't want ringing. great show.

    The best tone was with the gain cranked. Then when the compressor came on, it all went away. I think slide should have a massive tone, or it all sounds a bit Hawaiian. But a big slide tone is about the best tone you can get out of an electric guitar (esp with a semi-acoustic).

    You guys are as always, a true pleasure to watch. Have to say, that Ariel seems as such a nice and humble person. And boy, what an amazing musician playing guitar guy he is. You always make my day...

      +That Pedal Show Had the pleasure of watching Ariel and Joey live at the Borderline ... it was incredible to watch the 2 play together .. they still left plenty of space for the vocals to shine.
