I want to thank you, Jake, for highlighting these classic simracing games and mods. As a younger person (I started watching NASCAR in 2006) you have inspired me to check out some of these older games and really dive into simracing.
Back when this came out , i bought for my computer , my ex s father had a top of the line machine for back than so i asked if he could load this game into his computer . anyway , i use to go over to there house ( even if the ex was out ) and ask if i could race , they always said sure , go ahead ! So i,d put on headphones ( i liked it really loud ) and off i,d go . I had some really , really exciting races over the course of a couple of yrs and always loved this game . I,m absolutely going to reserect this game and put it into my current computer, i still have the ORIGINAL CD,S for Nascr 3 / Nascar 99 / Nascar 4 / GLP Legends and probably a few others ( with your amazing carset ) and go back in time to when this game was king . Thanx so much for all your hard work Jake .... It is very much APPRECIATED !!!!!!!!!! 😊😊😊
Yes, I know it must be a tonne of work but, the richie axelson lore is my favourite sim racing content it's amazing, even if you fast forwarded 5 years into the 70s thatd be cool too.
The era i fell in love with Nascar back when Wide World Of Sports would show about 2 minutes of a race. Great job its close enough to perfect id say. Keep up the good work we appreciate it!!!❤❤❤
This is so awesome. This mod is not only amazing, but the research you did to get it right, your knowledge and appreciation of the drivers and teams of NASCAR’s past. Love how you’re able to just openly talk about some of the lesser known drivers that most people (especially those from my generation, way beyond the 1968 generation) wouldn’t care to know about. Like, how many people know about Wayne Smith’s 38 car seen in this video? That’s the fun of learning about old seasons. You learn a lot and then you get to ramble about it lol
Nice to see you cover this game. I grew up and live in Nascar Country. My late uncle who passed away in 2010 was a huge Nascar fan. He was friends with Jabe Thomas and his son Ronnie who both raced in Nascar. He used to do some work for them at his machine shop .Curtis Turner lived not far from me and Woods Brothers do not live too far from me as well. My uncle used to get free tickets to Nascar races so he took me to quite a few in the 70s and 80s was i was young. We went to Martinsville quite a lot. So i grew up with quite a few of the drivers mentioned in this video still racing. I used to own Nascar legends and played it often but like you said even when it came out the graphics were disappointing to say the least. I added a few custom skins to it as well. I may still have the CD somewhere but I have not seen it in years so I think i likely gave it away at some point. I wish they would come out with a Updated version but i know that will likely never happen. I have just recently got back into racing games and dug out my old Logitech DFGT. It still works fine too :) I tried AC but I just dont care for it and that Mod Loader it uses is clunky and buggy. After watching some videos and doing a little research i got GTR2 and Installed the anniversary patch. I have really been enjoying it so far even though i just been practicing and trying out some American tracks. So far i got Riverside, Mid Ohio and Canadian Motorsports park. I DLed some cars too but my favorite so far is the BRE 71 Datsun, that thing is a blast throwing around the tracks ! I just DLed the eSR Classic Trophy for GTR2 Ford Escort vs Capri Edition as well they are quite fun as well. I tried installing the Power and Glory mod but I am having a problem getting the mod to work right. I think im gonna get rFactor2 once steam has it on sale. I do have rFactor one and GT Legends but not installed. Even though i had not played any racing games for a few years I have been following your channel for a while and have enjoyed the content. The bug finally bit me hard enough to get back into it and your channel is one of the main reasons ....Keep up the good work.
What a legend (you)! Your passion for all this is unmatchable, and I'm glad you share it with us! I honestly mostly live my sim racing life vicariously through your videos because I never play enough to get halfway decent before I just go and drift in AC for hours :D.
I appreciate the love for NL. This is a fun game to revisit every once in awhile. It really deserved the GPL engine treatment...one can dream! Excellent carpack/mod, by the way. It is wonderfully crafted.
1968. The year that Wacky Races first aired on our TV sets. It's a great show that one. It's not as great as Albert The 5th Musketeer or Speed Racer, but it's still great. 68 was also the year that Jim Clark, the greatest driver of all time apart from Ayrton Senna, died.
You can see this is a passion project, amazing looking for such an old game. I installed it after discovering watching an older vid of yours, I don't have a wheel play with keyboard, can't finish a single race haha but still boot it from time to time, thank you for sharing Jake. I also watched all 60's races on Nascar channel and some great stories there. Cheers
A Logitech gamepad would be a decent a race controller. A flight stick would be even better. I used to play Indycar Racing with a CH Flightstick and it worked well.
Dude this is amazing, this is literally the only way I’ve ever seen my grandfather “race” thank you so much for everything you do. (Paul-Dean Holt) 40:52 thank you thank you thank you!!
Jake, thanks for making this car set. Did a 100 mile race at Rockingham with it today. Love the wide field spread. Finished near the end of the lead lap in 9th but with the lap cars was always racing someone.
I often wonder what would have happened if Jim Clark, the greatest driver of all time, apart from Ayrton Senna, had not died. Clark might have even tried competing in NASCAR. It would have been fun seeing him swapping paint with Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough & David Pearson. And of course Dale Earnhardt. :) Senna probably would have tried Nascar, too.
I remember getting NASCAR Legends as a cereal box prize. And when I got it (i was lucky since there was like 5 other games I could get inside), I ran upstairs in excitement and tripped on the final stair and broke the disc! The good news is that I called up the cereal company(don’t remember if it was Kelloggs or Post) and they gave me a free replacement in the mail!
I have NASCAR Legends but I have trouble getting it to run properly. I'll keep trying and I'll try this mod. I spend about 97% of my simracing time in GPL, usually the '67 F2 mod.
Seems like there is an "nglide" wrapper or something you have to download for modern pc's for this game to work properly. I believe Jake may have mentioned it in his previous NASCAR Legends video on his channel. It's been several years since I did it, but that fixed it for me.
you talk about the original one lane Darlington ( 68 and back ) Jake , I remember Cale saying to Jeff Gordon " Boy , you and i have both won 5 Southern 500,s .... But you never won on that old track !!! ( which Cale was inferring that the one lane track was a lot tougher , which of course it was ) .
My first racing game on PC... never gave it the attention it deserved though, should search around my parents house to see if we still have it sitting around! Hahaha
We need to start modding nascar 4. Ever since your video about the superspeedway racing, it's been my go to game. You can run with an Xbox controller well and if you can race with friends on IP. Only drawbacks are the lack of tracks and lack of admin controls. Also sometimes the damage is a little too forgiving
Idk if it would be ov much intrest but id love to see like a 25 percent race season or shorter. Idk how many others would but i love your indy car and your nascar racing championships.
I'd need to go digging, but there was the quote doing the rounds a while back about how Sierra made the call for Papyrus to stick with the older engine because they were afraid of how customers would take having a NASCAR game on a more difficult engine, the quote I saw said that the team at Papyrus mocked up a NASCAR in the GPL engine, then were impressed how well it worked, but Sierra balked at the idea and said no, use the older engine so people aren't either put off by the new engine or find it too difficult, depending on which version of the quote. And to think by this point Sierra were already in deep trouble that they would never recover from, being shuttered a decade later by Activision/Blizzard EDIT: Weirdly enough the demo made it over here, as did NR3's demo too, it got space on the CD alongside bigger and better received titles and would, along with NR3 be part of a budget range of software that still hangs around even now. I know a few people who work at game stores over here in the UK and both this and NR3 still show up on the shelves every once in a while, like the publisher had extra reprints they needed to shift so they ship out a new set of copies
Ok I started sim racing with this came and papyrus nascar 3. Now I do iracing. Where do you find this old games cause I still love them. I have the old cds but can’t use them.
The Chrysler cars are kinda confusing. There's 68 Dodge Coronet coupe, Super Bee, Charger. 68 Plymouth Belvedere coupe, Road Runner, Satellite coupe, GTX. They're different trim levels but all look basically the same except the Charger. I can't tell what the Plymouth version of the Charger is. Supposedly it's the Road Runner but the body of the Road Runner doesn't look like a Charger. The Charger seems lower and has more of a fast back. I like the nose on the 1970 Coronet/Super Bee.
i loove this game with n3 also, but i have a problem with the xbox serie s controller, i can't map the right analog to accelerate and brake, the vertical axis doesn't work, but moving horizontally it works fine, someone knows a fix for this?
Had legends back in the day for PC and absolutely loved that stupid game grabbed it a bit ago and tried to get it running on modern hardware and I'm having the menus flicker and the needles don't show up I want to do a super bird or something with a '70s looking Motorola sponsorship and across the quarter panel "with experimental in car radio" to make the spotter a little more you know universe friendly
You need to install nglider I think is called, and select it in the hardware box instead of the default in the graphic options... hope I remember correctly, installed it quite a while ago but running well for me.
Hey fellow would really like to see a race at talladega in the Elliott Cale Allison Baker mid to late 80s 209 to 212 days i think i would be riveted thanks so far pretty cool

Only thing missing from this set is a car for Richie Axelson.
NASCAR Legends. I love it. It's Grand Prix Legends AKA GPL but with Nascar. Masterpieces those two.
