Her vibrato is fucking enchanting. I can totally see why people wouldn’t dig this, but fucking god damn, I’ve been listening to them since Ugly and still loving them
I found this band yesterday,on the AV cover project.still don't know much about them,I'm older and don't listen to to much rock these days old bands get stuck recycling there hits and most of the younger bands can't play.three chord strummers .singing pop tunes.but this sounds like Jimi Hendrixs and Janis Joplin formed a Punk Band.Must hear more.
The crowd seem docile, ha. Just discovered this band, wasn't sure at first, but then watched this video - I'm sold! She wails, she's pretty damn good with her guitar, the band is tight. 'Boyfriend' was so rad.
Pretty sure the noise and oscillation is from a boss digital delay. Read an interview with her where she said she has used big muffs and a rat. Such an inspiring artist!!
I does not matter if you painted your face and walk naked and shit on stage. It matters how talented you are. Its just a great band and a very talented girl.
Punk rock guitarist are typically not very good , they very rarely play leads, not because its out of fashion ( AS THEY CLAIM ) but more like they arent talented enough or havent put in the time and practice,, so if she's really gonna play leads on the guitar, she should listen to the guitar greats Blackmore, Schenker etc.and "RAISE HER BAR", .until than she just another mediocre guitar player making noise.
I semi-understand where you're coming from, as I too, although in a different way, am a bit of a music snob. However, what you have to realize is that certain genres and bands within genes have very unique sounds and believe it or not to play the guitar parts of a Screaming Females song, you have to be a good bit above mediocre. In this band, the bass plays a big part and the guitar is there to add the bite the the sound.
An response to your post 10 years later- Spin magazine had Marissa ranked as the 77th best rock guitar player ever and Rolling Stone had her as the 150th best guitar player of all-time in ANY genre. We can all agree these lists are subjective and certainly not definitive. And these magazines might not be one’s liking. But they are compiled by people with pretty good knowledge of music. Her ranking on both attest to her talent. Talent she has always had since the first Screaming Females record.
Trolls be damned, she's a fantastic guitarist. The band have raw power, they RAWK.
they are the best band to come out in a very long time
Her vibrato is fucking enchanting. I can totally see why people wouldn’t dig this, but fucking god damn, I’ve been listening to them since Ugly and still loving them
I love the people in the background clearly not there for the show specifically just watching as Marissa screams like a woman possessed into her mic.
My actual two favorite songs from this band.
She's wonderful

@Jicari Hickory Hill My god. You must be a guitar legend
Has a touch of Hendrix and more raw talent than some present day "rock" bands that don't even have a lead guitar break in their songs.

one of the weirdest ways I've heard her sung- still predict I'm going to love this song when it comes out.
Pretty sure the noise and oscillation is from a boss digital delay. Read an interview with her where she said she has used big muffs and a rat. Such an inspiring artist!!
punk rock has got a new queen. I think Wendy O Williams would approve.
her getting on the ground and screaming reminds me so much of the gazette, japanese visual kei band

Wow! You must be so much more awesome! Whats your band name so we could all check it out!?!?
Dude, the arts aren't a technical contest. And even if they were, Marissa's bar would be pretty high.
I don’t know, I’ve been playing guitar for a long time and I think she’s fucking amazing
