I guess you've never heard any modern Fusion or Math-Rock guitarists? I mean, mostly their music is horribly boring but technically they're light years ahead and there's probably thousands of them.
KEXP has been my saviour since covid happened but to discover a new session by SF is an unbelievable treat ! I saw them play in Birmingham a few years ago - i hadn't heard them but my friend insisted we go (she has a huge crush on Marissa....🤗 ) and they were astoundingly good ! They aren't playing locally on their current tour but I'm hopefully going to see them in Bristol in June and damn the time/cost 🙂🤘
I had to go back and watch this live performance again. They were so good. I say “were” because sadly the band has split up. It was quite the run seeing them for the first time at Maxwell’s in Hoboken then countless times after that. I thank Marissa, Jarred and King Mike for the many, many years of music and kindness to your fans and community. You will be missed but never forgotten. Marissa, I hope you keep it going you have loads of talent. You have only scratched the surface my friend.
Saw them a few years ago in a room way smaller than they deserved. Openers were fine, then they took the stage and just destroyed. Best live band I'd seen in ages.
You can tell they've been playing together a long time. Watching the complicated stuff Marissa's playing on the guitar while also belting out vocals at the top of her lungs never ceases to amaze me, it's awe-inspiring.
one of my favorite moments of my life is running into Marissa in the bar line @ the Doug Fir in Portland and at first thought someone random cut and I got annoyed, then realized was her (understandable cut) and was like OMG its you she said "its no big deal man, we're all just people" then chatted after the show very chill and talented
Never been so happy to see a band on kexp! Screaming females has been my favorite band for almost a decade straight now, I don’t think there’s been a single week in all those years where I haven’t listened to at least one song of theirs- I never get tired of them. Magic
Super happy to see scremales on here. It's overdue for one (Otoboke Beaver got on before they did, lol), and for another thing, it goes to show that their live performances are waaaay better than the album. And their albums always slap.
The band rocks period. Marissa is not only an exceptional guitar player but a great artist as well. I first saw them at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ. Overall they are all very cool down to earth people.
Big Time Cheryl Waters. Super Kool to know you're here on KEXP. It's been quite awhile since I last heard you on the old 90.5/90.3 KCMU at " The Dub" Waaayyy back in the day! Good Yeoman Work from you as usual.....
I was supposed to host one of these live sessions for WUSC in Columbia but then their van door got stuck and they couldn’t get their equipment out :( hope to make it happen some day
El algoritmo de youtube me lo recomendó. me pareció una banda insólita, lúgubre y con mucha personalidad. me encantan sus influencias; primus, gnr, foo figthers. me declaro fanatico de la banda. saludos desde ARGENTINA 🇦🇷
i remember listening to them in my first year of college like more that decade ago and later being so hype about Ugly releasing, its cool to see them going as strong as ever

Me too! A collab with Garbage appeared on my feed, and I'm definitely going down this rabbit hole!
First time for me. I was looking at the bands playing Riot Fest in Chicago, and I liked their name so I looked them up - glad I did!
Marissa is one of the top 5 guitarists in the world.
Damn straight!!!!😁♥️♥️♥️

wow seen them a couple times and never heard Marissa scream like that! @6:32. Great set
Yeah love that scream!,
YES. Is she the same vocalist from 'Noun - Holy Hell' ? reminds me so much of the song of the same name of the album. so good
Yep! She releases under Noun and her own name Marissa Paternoster. Everything she does is great. Check it all out.

KCMU became KEXP.
@Bryan Smith Yes, Thank You for that as I am quite aware of the call letter/dial change as I became hip as of 1978.

Right. And KCMU was earsplitting at a grand total of oh, about 18 watts of pulse-pounding sound output in 1977-78 at that.
SO excited for this

Great music and performance. I also have never seen a guitar strapped around someone's waist like that, I may just have to try that out.
She had a bad bout of fibromyalgia years ago and it helps prevent back pain. Pretty smart.
Steve Albini and Santiago Durango also used waist straps when in Big Black. Albini still does.
@@SlamdogX , @Barking Pig, thank you for the information.

nice band , cool music , little confuse with the name , till 6:30 , lol good job guyss
still trying to figure out the singers 'guitar strap' situation ... like, what is that? Never seen it like this :D
I read that she has serious back issues and that strap position was recommended by Butch Viig to reduce the strain.
It's a waist strap. I know Slinger makes them, but there may be others. Steve Albini is the only other guitarist I've seen use one.
