I can't get over the fact that in their in 80 year history, Batman and Superman's first ever on screen appearance with each other......is in a dream sequence.
Yeah, wow. You’re right. And the more you think about it, the worse it gets. Batman kills a dozen or more soldiers in Superman’s own army, apparently, before he is caught. When Superman does show up, it’s his turn to kill people and he cuts several prisoners in half with heat vision before he punches through Batman’s chest to crush his heart.
@2:28:03 A lot of it is there but you just have to track it for a bit. There, she's referring to how Superman told her that he's afraid he didn't see the bomb because he didn't want to
I'm in the minority with this movie. I don't really have a strong opinion on it either way. Some people hate it, some people love it, and I'm really just indifferent. Sometimes I watch it and thoroughly enjoy the film throughout its egregiously long feeling runtime. Then there are time I watch it and barely make it through an hour. One thing I will always give this movie is the Batman side of things. This movie has hands down my favorite Batman aesthetic brought to screen. I love the cave, the car, and the suit is hands down the best one we've gotten in a movie. This also has hands down my favorite Batman action in a movie, regardless of how far it goes at points. Jeremy Irons gives a great performance as Alfred and is probably my favorite screen interpretation of the character to date(though I expect Serkis to take that crown soon enough). Ben Affleck is immediately captivating as Batman and Bruce Wayne from his first minute on screen, and brings a real feel of intensity to the role. Affleck makes me buy this really broken version of a Batman who has slipped into alcoholism and hyper-violence, and while I don't like that this version was the one meant to be apart of the definitive DC film universe. I respect and appreciate that Snyder brought a really different version Batman to screen in this film. My only problem with Batman in this is that the movie does nothing to make me interested to see where this Batman goes moving forward. It just makes me interested in seeing where he came from. And as a side note, I'm cool with Snyder's idea of killing Dick Grayson. It makes a lot of sense for this version of Batman(debate a wall, lol). The rest of this movie for me is really just blah and I don't have a lot to say about it. I like Cavil, but hate the monosolabic Superman in these movies. I think Amy Adams is great, but don't care for Lois' side plot in this. I think the two could have chemistry with each other, but Snyder doesn't do anything with their relationship aside from "You are my world". The two literally do not communicate hardly at all for a couple that is supposedly on the doorsteps of marriage. Lex in this is just really confusing, and while I don't care for what Eisenberg does in the role. I think he could give a great performance for this kind of Lex with a better script. I do really like this movies look and style though. Which is consistent for me throughtout what I have seen of Snyder's filmography. Regarding the music, I find it just as confusing as I find most of the other stuff in this movie. The Man of Steel stuff in the score is obviously great, but some of the new stuff is just absolutely perplexing. When it comes to scoring, I give this behemoth a 2/4. Smack dab in the middle. That is simultaneously the best and the worst I can do for this movie.
Do you know the greatest lie in America? That Lex Luther was a well written villain in BvS... Everything he does revolves around Superman in some way. If he killed Superman, then what? He was written only to be an obstacle to the protagonist, he has nothing beyond that.
@@billmcdermott9647 But then he's stuck with Doomsday, who represents everything Superman represents in terms of being "all-powerful" and more since Doomsday is "blood of his blood" like his father was. And Lex was cool with creating Doomsday, the surrogate for his father, so he wants an all-powerful God that's not all good? And Doomsday is probably going to destroy half the planet.
Think about this; Luthor created Doomsday to kill Superman but just suppose Batman killed Superman then who who would have stopped Doomsday? BvS has so many plot holes it’s ridiculous; Why does Wonder Woman say she turned her back on humanity 100 years ago yet she travels the world as a rich socialite. Where does Diana Prince get her money from? How is she able to get a bank account is he turned her back on humanity? Why does Batman shoot a tracking device on the truck with the kryptonite if he he’s going shoot and blow up the trucks? What was the point of the tracking device? Does the Affleck Batman always have a panic attack after he hears the word Martha? Why does Superman wait until he’s about to be killed to tell Batman about Martha? Like I said BvS has so many many plot holes it’s ridiculous, all of this could have been avoided if Snyder had actually bothered to concentrate on the script and make sure it made sense and was actually a decent script. Sadly all Snyder cares about are the visuals everything else doesn’t matter to him, either that or Snyder is so clueless he has no idea about what makes a coherent well written script. My guess is Snyder is clueless and had zero idea about what he was doing, he obviously thought by having a film with Batman and Superman no one would care about if the script makes sense.
Most of your criticisms and supposed plot holes are actually completely explained in the movie if you pay attention and are half as much of an attentive smarty pants as you think you are.
The only thing I can take away from this movie is that I'll never look at peach tea the same way again. Oh, and after falling down a rabbit hole and researching the dessert, I'd like to try gooey butter bars. Seriously though, the fights were interesting. Nice vid as always, Cap.
I feel like this film was doomed from the get-go. As others have pointed out, on paper, the premise for this sounded, well…sound, but the movie was doomed for failure by both WB’s desire to rush a cinematic universe and use this movie as a launchpad, as well as giving Zack Snyder unlimited creative freedom. Now, I agree that Snyder was, by all accounts, wrong for this material. There’s no getting around the fact that this man is a textbook edgelord, and arguably a pseudo-intellectual that greatly overestimates his narrative skills as well. He just comes across as an amalgamation of the worst traits of Christopher Nolan, Frank Miller, and Tim Burton. If I had given him the director’s chair for any DC movie at the time, I might have let him direct Suicide Squad (which suites his sensibilities better, as well as being a much smaller movie), but not the big, important, starting-point-for-a-cinematic-universe tentpole Superman reboot, Batman/Superman crossover, and Justice League two-part sequel. I think out of all of WB’s knee-jerk reactions in scrambling to build a cinematic universe that would compete with Marvel, this was easily the biggest one. And if they just had to have Snyder direct this, the other big mistake WB made was not finding some middle man who could keep Snyder on a leash (as it’s plainly obvious that Snyder had no restraints while making this). Listening to this long review, it becomes clear that a major reason for why many of these creative choices were so grating, to both DC fans and casual viewers alike, is the simple fact that Snyder was never content with simply doing something, but rather, he always had to take it up to eleven. For example, having Lex Luthor be a neurotic, navel-gazing silicon valley weirdo that is obsessed with theological contradictions and conundrums is one thing (some say this could have been an interesting reinterpretation if written correctly), but Snyder had to portray every single one of the new Lex’s quirks in such an over-the-top manner that it’s hard to take the character seriously, along with his all-encompassing and cartoonishly convoluted plan. This is one of many places where executives should have stepped in and told the actors and writers, “No! Reign it in.” and followed it up with, “Play along, Zack, or we WILL replace you.” Making good movies almost always requires making compromises to some extent, as well as not letting one person call all the shots. Making movies is a joint effort and all the major players need to be in synch in order to produce a coherent and appealing product. The general reaction to this movie makes that clear, i.e. it being worshipped by a minority of Snyder loyalists who find his particular style fascinating, while most cinephiles, critics, and DC fans, in general, see it as a bloated, incoherent, pretentious, and self-indulgent mess.
I love that you respect the material you disagree with. I appreciate that you keep the conversation going. We have very different opinions yet, I really enjoy your analysis. Thank you sir.
