Wow, this was beautiful. Been a fan of Giant since ‘73(yes, I’m that old!), and was lucky enough to have seen and heard this wonderful group. I’m a wreck right now. Well done Steven and Noah, well done.
We’re all old !! 😂 But we’ve also seen more than any other generation on Earth. Blessed we are.
I have loved and appreciated Gentle Giant for 50 years now, my first contact was a radio recording of "On Reflection" from "Freehand" that immediately enchanted me!
Little by little I bought all the records, including “Missing Piece” and “Civilian” which I also really appreciate! 😉
In general, Gentle Giant is the band with the most good LPs, until perhaps "Giant for a day", all of the records are masterpieces!
Gentle Giant is the best band that ever lived!
There was and will never be such musicality and joy of playing again!
Each individual musician essentially replaces an entire band on their own!
Ray Shulman (bass violin, trumpet, etc.) and Kerry Minear (keyboards, cello, vibraphone, etc.) particularly stand out!
But the other members also show what they can do!

I am ashamed to admit Gentle Giant passed me by 'back in the day' . A dull day and aimlessly searching TH-cam - searched Gentle Giant and picked this at random, I was blown away. I recorded a cassette tape 45plus years ago of various stuff off the radio which at the time burned itself into my memory banks the way they did, the last snippet before the tape ended was cut short and never identified.. I recognised it instantly and can now enjoy catching up with this great music - its never too late.

A Great song ! One of my favorites from Gentle Giant . I saw them play this live on the Missing piece tour in NYC .
Same here, but I saw them in L.A.. This song was "mesmerizing", everyone playing guitars...They also played "winning" with a percussion backing track, and I've noticed that there are no recordings of this on the various box-sets or bootlegs...would love to hear it , I'll keep searching...
At the Palladium, Dr Feelgood getting rudely booed off the stage as the opener! Great show!

Gentle Giant.. 1971 No real idea what I was viewing at a local venue. At 71 years of age, they are still etched in my soul. God Bless this band and it's members and Mr. Steve Wilson for carrying the torch and continuing the legend of this amazing group of musicians. Hence, the emphasis on the word musicians.
This IS my favorite Gentle Giant song of all time. I know this is not everyone's favorite album, but I loved it when it came and still play it all the time. Just as much as Octopus and Power and the Glory. To see the videos of them doing it live, amazing! I will get the Wilson remix for sure..
Me too. I have loved ALL the Giant albums despite murmurs from others that this one or that one is weak. I have loved every track, even I betcha thought we couldn’t do it! 😂

What a fantastic video. The Simon Dupree van really got to me. What a hell of a ride we’ve all had together on the planet and you guys set the soundtrack to it all. So now we stand on the edge of twilight each waiting to press that final red stop button. We the fans salute you.
Gentle Giant did perform this when I saw them on their Civilian tour in Cleveland and Detroit in May of 1980. It was stunning, as it was in the middle of more intense, tricky songs and gave a welcome respite. Memories of Old Days indeed!

@@stanferraro4130That's the only thing I could think of that would've been a great addition...a short, quick shot of them playing it live sync'd as best as possible to the track...say, around 6:03 or so. Other than that, it was beautifully done...bravo, Noah. 👍

@@KlausSgroi The original release on LP had a clear but almost bass - free mix. My friends had a most excellent hi fi and no matter what they did with EQ they were unable to coax any significant bass guitar sound out of it. The subsequent CDs were not much better. I am hoping Steven Wilson has beefed it up on this version..
One of their greatest compositions, I bought this album back in fall '77 and saw the tour spring '77...it never gets old...Masterful !!!!!!

Man, am I glad this song gets an overhaul. I've known the record from day one, and I always thought this song in particular was mixed way too low and somewhat out of balance. And now we can hear it in all its glory. It's like hearing it for the first time ... *shivers down my spine*
No other rock band could create such magic and SW just improved jaw dropping perfection , thats one small step for man and a GIANT leap for mankind !

Brilliantly done. I’ve been a fan of GG since first hearing them back in the ‘70’s on WZUM progressive AM radio in Pittsburgh, PA. That was so many years ago. Where does time go? “With sadness today, Hopes of joy yesterday,” and “Memories of old days Past.” This video made me cry, too. - jrw

A favorite. I fondly remember them performing this for the next to the last time in San Francisco at the Old Waldorf. Small venue packed to the rafters. I was in tears.

I will echo what many have said here. Memories is my favorite GG song. It haunted and moved me when I was 17 and now even more so. Because it evokes memories of each of our individual "old days." It deserved this wonderful resurrection.

Hello from Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Québec. One of my fave bands in my teenage years. My 5 year old son absolutely loves the Giant too. Thanks for these remastered editions. Bring so much definition to the tracks. Can’t wait to see the probably never before seen archival footage in this music video.

I discovered Gentle Giant in the late 70s. I was a High School kid working on tugboats on the Great Lakes during summer break. The Engineer had a cassette of "In a Glass House" and I was intrigued.

They're one of my top 5 groups. I think I first heard them back in '71. Zappa would talk about them so I ran out and bought their first two albums. It wasn't called prog back then. But Zappa, Tull and GG were all doing great music. Best decade of music.

Prog kings. Seen many times.had too see live to appreciate. The way they would switch instruments while playing a song.just amazing. No one like them.

Undoubtedly not only one of the best bands in the world, but in human history, for that matter. Yet, ironically, one of the least noticed!

gentle Giant were (or still are) the quintessence of british originality and immense musical talent and creativity....and consequently put into reality.....like nobody else did then or now.....over 50 years on, and i still can't get over hor great GG is.....cheers from germany...
After 50+ years, I still listen to anything and everything in their absolutely brilliant catalogue on a regular basis. I'm still amazed by their sophisticated level of the composition (not really songwriting at this level) and constantly discover something new or surprising each time. There will never be another like them and, IMO, the GOAT! Put me on a desert island with The Boys in the Band and XTC and I'd be forever musically content!
