I’m always on the lookout for a bargain… I’ve found these laser cut kits on eBay at a really good price, much cheaper than any of the resin kits out there. The kits allow you to put your own finish on them so I’m going to play around with different brick colours to see what I can achieve.
Let me know what you think - do they look ok?
    As always, Thanks for watching.

I’m pretty impressed with them. Just ordered a full relief factory from them 👍

Thanks for the video and inspiration. Looking very convincing and promising a long and strong future. Strong modelbuildings return to new layouts for decades whereas weaker structures tend to deterioarate in a way which is not of practical use for the modelrailway. These will not even loose character if they need to be stored for a while sometime. Very good choice, economical and visual. Thanks for the support of putting your videos of progress online. Best Albrecht

The new structures are fairly nice. the back drop needs an industrial update, a nice tall smokestack would pair well with those buildings. even if you dont light the interiors you should still separate the floors and add abstract shapes to the inside for shadow play on the windows. even with a translucent window you can make out bright spots and shadows.

Ideally I’d like an industrial themed back scene - just trying to work out how I could make the transition from countryside to industrial without it being obvious. Maybe a tall structure to cover where they would join?!

@@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt the industrial back scene dont have to start right where the turnout starts. If you found a building only overlay you could convert part of the existing back scene. Or find a place to photograph and create your own custom design and have it printed.

The buildings are looking great, a nice job. Has anyone made any derelict buildings, I suppose it depends on the timeline of the layout, but they could make quite a show. Great progress.😊

Hi. You have made a great job of these buildings. You could make your own drain pipes from Plastruct (other brands are available) products. You may wish to consider weathering the tall building with hoist (or did you mention that?).

Good idea. Probably cheaper as well! Yes, still need some more weathering 👍

Some really good modelling there Andy, they look really good. Coincidentally I've just scratch-built an industrial unit for Amberlea - it will feature in the next video. Chris

Looking good. Can I suggest quoins for the corners. I think many mills/factories/warehouses would have had them. If they're not on the Scale Scenes downloads or you want a bit of texture then Wills-kits and Scale Model Scenery both do them

Forgot to ask, what do you use to "seal" the paper?

    • @Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt
      @Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I’ve tried loads of different Matt sprays but many seem to stain the paper. The one I use now is Rust-oleum crystal clear Matt finish. 👍

Practical solution and inexpensive. Thats what modelling should be about. Its nice to have detail but its also good to be able to say I made that. There are no doubt people who could and would fully detail all of them. Lights, 3D printed machinery with hooks for the external lift. None of these makes the trains run better. Most modellers run their layouts in daylight. Nothing can't be revisited later.

These MDF kits are great I have purchased from Petite Properties myself then used Metcalfe to wrap not good, with a change of layout the building was to large and now sits in a box of bits.
Do you watch Julian of Station Road? He uses from memory a opaque spray on the windows so his shadow isn't recorded.
It's a shame the back was glued in as this would have offered the opportunity should you wish to leave the windows clear to install interiors.
Everard Junction created rooms away from the building for modelling to slot in from the rear with lightning.

Thanks. I still need to spray the windows with a Matt sealant. This seems to take away the reflection for me. To be honest I wasn’t intending to use low relief buildings - I was just going to use an industrial themed back scene, but couldn’t work out how to make the transition from countryside to industrial without it looking obvious?! 👍

Thanks very much. I used PVA (Wickes exterior as it’s a bit stronger)for the structure and a simple glue stick for wrapping the paper 👍

Looking very good. Do like mdf kits as they are usually pretty solid and easy to adapt and have a few on my layout. Wondering if you should think again about adding some lighting? I think you have lighting elsewhere on your layout so I bet you will be saying. “I wish I had…” sometime in the future?

Going to try some of these myself, I do have wills craftsman kits because my layout is in my big shed and does get high humidity, most of my metcalfe kits tended to warp.
