I would pay the high prices to ensure the survival of a historic pub. It's also expensive these days to run older establishments as their heating and electricity bills tend to be higher than newer buildings.
I don't want to know how much it costs to heat a place like that for an English winter. I live in Richmond, Va., in a 1950's-era house with a gas-fired boiler system, and during bad Januaries and Februaries the gas part of the utilities can threaten $400.
My electric is £250 per month and gas £350 per month that's with underfloor heating and a huge gas boiler although it's a large house it's still expensive
It looked very nice gary, but as you said a bit pricey,i think if you had an extra sausage, bit more mash and some garden peas,it would be worth the money, great review as always gary! 👍🏻😁
I used to drink there in 1965 and after . Wondfull pub then, used to sit in the barrel room and the landlord used to come out and sit with the drinkers in those days on a winters night only maybe 6 or 8 of us. Happy memories.
*Excellent- and highly highly recommended 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻* A fair review on the marks too. Chef needs mentioning again. Sounds like he believes in good food and it reflects in his plates ,bravo
Gary. The sausage did look a bit undercooked to me but will take your word on it being cooked through because you enjoyed the taste so much. The ingredients a looked really good but let down by the portion size of the mash. I know you got what you said was on the tin but the plate looked to lack a bit of greenery and think something like spring cabbage would be a welcome addition. You think it was a bit on the pricey side and I would agree but not overly so. I think £16 would be a reasonably price but with larger portion of mash. Overall I think I would score it 8/10.
I had a bit of a thing about Sausage ,mash and onion gravy back in the 90's and went down to England for a fishing holiday for two weeks . We ate out every night and I had the same meal in 14 different places from Norfolk to London to Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Herefordshire . I dont remember all of them now but I still recall that the worst was in North London , but the best was in Hay-on-Wye. I still remember it clearly and its serving of Home baked brown bread and butter on the side . A totally pointless story as I guess most or all the establishments are now gone but hope you tolerated reading haha
Old pubs that have a traditonal fireplace are amazing and feel cozy on winter days. The food looks really nice. I wouldn't mind paying higher price for a memorable meal once in a while. Glad it isn't a tourist trap.
You could almost smell the old age of the place, the history coming out of those walls. That menu was amazing, did I see correctly a sharing meal for £80? How many share? That bangers & mash did look good, as you said a bit tight on the mash and some fresh garden peas wouldn't of gone a miss, I love thick onion gravy and it did look good, plenty of meat in the sausage with no unwanted grease oozing out! Because of the surroundings and the good cooking you can see where they get their prices from, but as it's all in house they must save on a number of things, so I would think a fairer price would be around £13.95, but as a one off and you've just won a tenner on the lottery, I'd give it a go! Well filmed and voiced review as usual!
Hi Gary, Big Mal here again of 'Lassi sweet ' tip, this is second time this week you've reviewed a place familiar to me, the sausage cafe at Pottursbury, where i live now, and Royal Standard of England in Beconsfield where i used to live near, but drank there years ago with the wife. That Bangers and Mash looked the Business. Nice memories. Good Luck mate. 🎉😊 Big Mal
Thank you for another amazing review Gary. I could see how beautiful those sausages were but I do feel too expensive and also they really needed to add something extra on the plate to make it a meal. But a beautiful pub and I really enjoyed all the history you included too.
Just having another look at this fantastic video! Cant believe the age of this amazing pub Gary and that huge fire place! Love anything with history attached to it! The rustic sausages yummy 😋 ❤ supherb review as always Gary! You will have to go back there sometime! ❤🎉
I absolutely love the British pubs and may they reign forever. I thought a bit more mash to go with the luscious gravy and perhaps some veg would have supported the price. Thank you Gary for making me hungry again!!
I agree about the price Gary -a bit out of my league for bangers & mash but at least it was a quality home made meal & the pub itself is well worth a visit, even just for a drink as the decor is amazing and I love historical places and this was up there for sure.
Hi Gary great vlog as always my friend, loved your bangers and mash they looked real quality, and to make in house is amazing, that's why i think you paid a little extra. I was a bit shocked when uncle fester appeared at 5:04 in the back ground, it really must be the oldest pub in England. I love The Rose & Crown at 13 Lawrence Street York, there bangers and mash are amazing and made with red onions giving them a great sweet taste, plus they add herbs to the potato. Keep up the good work my friend, Chris.
I laughed out loud at Uncle Fester. Location was also a big reason why the price was so high but I do agree that because it's made in-house that it was a bit more expensive. I will have a look at the Rose & Crown, I do already have a few places on the list so I will see if I have time. Cheers Chris, have a good one!
We went there 2 years ago for dinner and loved the atmosphere and food. We loved it so much that we are travelling back to UK and having Christmas lunch there this year with our family who live in UK. From Australia.
Great review Gary, for that price I would have wanted 3 sausages and like you said more mash. I will say this, I reckon these will be the same sort of prices when you go further up North, I’ve found food just as expensive as the South East. Keep up the great work!
Hi, thank you for the content. UK is definitely on the bucket list, and who knows if I would've ever even heard about the destinations you're sharing without seeing them here.
I was a travel agent before I retired; the UK was my favor place to visit. I would gladly pay the 18GBP for that dish in that pub. The bits and pieces of the pub I can see...yes, its very old. Just exquisite.
Hi Gary what an extraordinary historic pub, I would absolutely go there for the homemade sausages and mash , best I have seen in your reviews so far. 10 🍺🎉
Those sausages looked slightly pink to me mate(I’m sure you’ll let me know in about 5 hours time if they were uncooked),and I prefer mine to be charred on top….. good review of a classic boozer though…… where was the English mustard!?!?
Fantastic review ,Fantastic Pub for a special occasion, eating out is expensive, I would not say its excessive for a historic Pub of that quality and" The best bangers and mash you have ever had" if I am passing again I will be calling in.
Great review Gary. Have been to the Royal Standard a few times. Last time I went I had the Beef Wellington and I have to say it was a bit overcooked but that was quite some time ago. Think I need to return and try that Bangers and Mash. You say its pricy but it is Beaconsfield. Just look at some of the houses you pass to get there!
Hello Gary, you are finding such beautiful establishment's, the food could almost be an afterthought, almost 😊 Simple, done well is the strength of British catering ❤ whilst you were eating CTP could have had a wandered about the place showing his ability (😮) Unless the sight of the drooling, dripping, dribbling no longer has an effect on you? I'm putting myself in CTP's shoes 😂That's an old fashioned rib sticker meal 🍴 😊 Plump Porkiers,Silky Mashed Potatoes, Onion Gravy. My opinion, no need for chopped chives as garnish. A great looking plate of food. Over 900yrs old,we accept that prices will have gone 👆, but still a bit pricey? Maybe a 3rd sausage or something ,crusty bread&butter? Well worth a visit if only to view the place. Safe travelling, and to the next one, onwards Allan&Family ❤😊
I agree Allan. Just a bit too pricy for me but the food was excellent. I think it's a great place to go to if you're interested in your history! Hope you're well my friend.
I think the price was fare, the place is beautiful and the out goings must be huge . Well worth going for a special occasion 🤩. Oh I make a mean sausage mash and onion gravy ! See you in the next one Gary.🙏🏼💙🤩👏
Did most of my courting in this pub over 40 years ago, lovely building in a beautiful village, it looks just the same. Always was expensive but good value for money. Thank yoh for the trip down memory lane
Pub from the outside, Church in the inside 😂 The food looked great, but your spot on, I thought it was expensive for the size of the meal, I would have knocked another point off to be honest, as I don't think it was worth more than £11.95? Or does that sound harsh without actually eating it? Great review & one of the most unique places I've seen to eat! Definitely church vibes I thought... They know what they are doing obviously, & did look quality 👍 Cheers Gary all the best! 🍻
Hi Tel. I think if it was £3/4 cheaper then it would have been a 10 but it's clear that the location has added more on. Understandable given that the location is truly excellent but the price was a bit of a minus. Have a good Sunday mate.
Yes they are the best ...also legs n co. some of my videos are crap quality, but there are better ones on you tube..... I love all the routines shame Ruth, Flick, Louise and Andi are no longer with us.@@TelThePower
Wow this is special. Fantastic place. Love the look takes one back in time .beautiful. Menu looks really good . Id be pleased to try there meals local British produce and humble meals .perfact 10🇦🇺😊
Wow, great garden! That was really special for the Chef to come out and greet you. 18.95, not too bad.. agree would be better with more mash. No service charge was good. Best bangers and mash.. my mum and Dad's. Restaurant.. was at an old English owned cafe in the Bay. Local made sausages with butter cream mash and bacon onion gravy. Peas and carrots. Heart attack on a plate but worth it. Hope the cameraman got to nosh as well. He's got my maternal "Have you eaten today" fretting instinct on.😂😊 Much support and love to you both!❤❤❤❤❤
Mum's bangers and mash is always the best without fail. The cameraman didn't get to eat today as there was none left for him but he will no doubt have more when I visit York tomorrow! He's very appreciative that you look out for him. Thank you Mona!
Yes sausages looked bang on Gary, I do love bangers and mash with onion gravy, although I’ve not really had the privilege to order that as yet but I do make it at home. I would of been disappointed with the size of the mash though 😖
Agree John. I needed a little more. The more I think about it, I think an 8/10 would have been fair but the location swayed me. Make it for yourself over the next couple of days - have a good week.
@@GaryEats Hi Yes I am going to look at it again Gary...absolutely love the decor too! Well as the food! I have always loved The Tudor Period too! I have alot of memorabilia too...plus music my Phone ringtone is 'GreenSleaves'
Looked delicious, agree it was a bit expensive though. Wonderful old building - that's why I like Europe so much, here in Australia we have only had European settlement for quite a short time in comparison so the age of your buildings is incredible. Kindest regards as always.
enjoyed that video Gary, maybe a little English mustard would have gone well with the bangers, best sausages I have had at home are from The Black Farmer, delicious and my go to, Cheers Mike
Hi Gary, I have been following you for a while now, but this is the first time I have commented. I think you have to take into consideration where you are eating, Beaconsfield, is a very expensive area and I would imagine most of the locals can afford it. If it was the best sausages & mash, you have ever eaten, then it was probably worth it. It's strange that the majority of us will happily pay £15.95, for indifferent or mediocre sausages & mash, but would consider £18.95, for the best sausages and mash, we have ever eaten to be expensive, If it was as good as you suggest, I don't think the price was excessive and I'm a pensioner, I think you have to pay for the best. Good luck on your travels and keep up the good work, all the best.
Hi and thanks for commenting. Always appreciate comments and it's good to hear from you. Really appreciate that and I completely agree with you. I would say that it's still probably a little bit too pricy but on the whole, I had a lovely experience. Thank you for watching!
My favourite Bangers and Mash were made by me, and predictably the more expensive sausage always makes for a better meal. The longer and lower you cook the sausage gives more flavour and a dark brown sticky/sweet finish. Yours didn't look sticky to me, maybe something the Restaurant could take into account. Long and Low is where it's at. I've heard some people use a defuser to elongate the cooking time, a step too fat for me but for the price you paid...
can not beat a open fire gary how comes there was loads of people in there yet when you had your food it was empty did the cameraman scare them off lol 900 years old love places like the the food lookd brilliant that did seem a lotof money for what you got to be fasir just as well there was noy a service charge theep them going as i said really looking forward to the ones you are going to do up north all the best steve
Agreed Steve. I sat in another room with the cameraman so that we're not disturbing other diners! Although... the way he was dressed on the day probably scared them off haha. Completely agree with you, going up North tomorrow. Can't wait
Yes Gary went their with a friend a few years ago and agree with you but we (did)find it rather expensive, but what the heck for a once off experience ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT😊
I think it was still a bit too expensive. A few quid cheaper and I wouldn't have minded. The place itself is incredible and I would highly recommend it. Cheers Chris!
Absolutely love Beaconsfield. Beautiful village and one of my favourites in England. Food looked good and I believe you get what you pay for. Homemade sausages - where do you get them nowadays? Solid nine out of ten from me!
Methinks the pub is trading on its popularity and changing high prices accordingly. Way too expensive for a small portion plate of bangers & mash that didn't include peas and condiments.
About a week ago I met up with some friends and we visited 'The White Hart Hotel' in Whitchurch in Hampshire and three of us had bangers and mash and it was also great with nice creamy mash and lovely sausages too. The gravy was nice too and they added a small portion of runner beans and peas with the onions. We had some really nice '3B' beer brewed by the Arkles brewery to accompany the meal. The sweet course was nice too. Very good indeed but I think your meal on this video is the best. The staff were extremely friendly at 'The White Hart' and I've been there a couple of times and really enjoy their food. Another great video and thanks for uploading. All of a sudden I'm feeling very hungry. 🙂
As you say pretty pricey if you breakdown what you are actually getting for your money, but probably paying more as it’s an historic pub, also Beaconsfield is a lovely place but quite pricey too, not been there for years. The sausages looked a little herby for my liking, but that’s just personal taste, the main thing is you really enjoyed it and loved the pub, so money well spent.
It might be a little pricey, but I'd gladly pay just to enjoy the meal in such an amazing building! I bet if walls could talk, that pub has seen its fair share of incidents, good and bad. I wonder if it's supposed to be haunted? Excellent review as always there mate. Famous people who've filmed there include Ricky Gervais, Hot Fuzz, Midsomer Murders, and now... Gary Eats! 😂
Honestly, as a person who lives in the US but has been lucky enough to visit the UK (and other places) in the past, it's well worth the extra couple pounds for a vacation meal. I wouldn't blink at it - I'd be talking it up to everyone I knew as a high point of my trip if things tasted as nice as you say. For a regular neighborhood pub meal, the standards are clearly different, because the meal you ate is a quick casual lunch-level thing and in that case it's on the high side for regular use, but if I am lucky enough to come back to your country in the future, I'll be looking this place up.
I must visit that pub one day . I agree with your opinion , Gary .. £ 19-00 for bangers and mash is a bit too expensive and could have had twice that amount of mash to soak up the gravy . The menu looked good , Gary . How about trying the steak pudding next time . 👍😍
Beaconsfield prices for you Gary - looked tasty but I agree with other comments on an extra banger and some more mash. 7 out of 10 for me due to the price point.
I’m going through all your reviews I haven’t seen so apologies for the late comment , that sausage and mash looked incredible but having looked at the menu I’d have gone for the steak and kidney pudding and what a fabulous looking pub , great review as usual my friend 👍
That is an amazing building!! £18.95 for bangers and mash is over the top. I still think, despite being home made sausages, they were a bit under done. I'm old fashioned, pork should not be pink. As always you give a fair review and I totally understand your score but I would not be able to score that high at that price. I would only be able to give an 8 at that price. Your content is so good. Please keep going!!
I think you're spot on Andrew. The price was a bit of a shame as I think if it was a few quid cheaper - it would have been a ten. Anyways, onwards and upwards and I really appreciate your kind comments.
Great call Gary sausauges looked amazing your score was fair as the sausages looked top notch ! For me, i would say 7.5 mainly based on the price, i can see it at £12 max never the less all the best to the chef !!
I've watched so many of your videos lately and I have to say I always feel the hugriest when it's Bangers & Mash (I think your video quality make them look even better) . Always look really tasty. Forget the price, those sausages looked 'the nuts'.😁😎
Afternoon Gary👍I was hoping those sausages tasted as good as they looked, yes the price point is an issue for many(me included) though I would say the quality looked superb and eating in that type of stunning environment must help ease the pain in the purse a little. Another great review Sir ✌️🍻
Have to go back for the bangers and mash, mate! We went for their Sunday roast, not cheap, but the quality is there. My favourite place for bangers and mash is Mother Mash. Another fantastic review, Gary and keep up the fabulous work!
Looked really nice Gary but was a bit pricey , cud have done with another sausage bit more mash ,great video as always .We live in York hope you get to visit soon x
Gary, after your describing the food, the atmosphere, the service, the decor.....seems like it was a bit on the high side price wise, but you did mention that the sausage was the best! Being a bit high in price, and a bit short on the mash.....does that take a full point off? What is your standard difference between a 9 and a 9.5? Another great review and a great lesson in Pub history! Thanks much and ....cheers!
That pub looked fantastic , food looked great also , i used to be a butcher and love my sausages ,they looked spot on . Only thing that would stop me buying that meal would be the price, but could be tempted lol .Good review again Gary
Looking at the hammered beam ceilings, I'm guessing it's probably a listed building and costs more than most pubs to maintain, hence the high prices. You didn't mention the price of the beer, and I'm guessing that wasn't cheap either. Like a few other people in the comments, I think an extra vegetable would have been fair, although the plate looked very big so maybe there was more than met the eye. Great review, Gary.
Looks good, glad they source food locally and make their own sausages. For the money tho, could they not have thrown in a side dish of mixed veggies or something? Pub looks amazing. Great review👍7 outta 10 from moi😊
A piece of crusty bread for soaking up that gravy would have been handy. There was a pub similar to that in Norwich but unfortunately one half is now Wetherspoons and the other half a building society. Excellent review once again.
There's so many places that get good old Sausage and Mash so wrong, but that looks fantastic and chopped chives on top as well!!!! Lets hope that no Ghosts were trying to nick your mash Gary?? The best Sausage and Mash I have ever had was at the Sarancens Head at Halsall near Ormskirk in Lancashire, a great pub on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the food was to die for, and all local produce, meat, fish and vegatables. Alas, since Covid its never been the same and haven't been for over a year...very sad!
I only found your channel recently Gary. I’m really enjoying it thank you. Unfortunately I’m on a budget and couldn’t pay that much for a meal for one. I love b&m and make it regularly for myself and my 2 daughters costing around €2.50 per portion. (I’m from Ireland) and that’s only because I get 6 premium sausages. Your plate of food looked lovely. However, to me it looked like a bowl of onion gravy with a child’s portion of mash which you couldn’t really see and 2 fine sausages on top. As you were eating, especially the combo bites you struggled to get the mash on cause it simply dropped off being so little and under a puddle of gravy. Great review though and I’m going on the hunt for more of your videos. 👍
Hello Philip. Firstly, thank you for commenting and subscribing! I will agree with you that the portion of the mash wasn't great and therefore I had to mark it down. Thank you very much and hello to Ireland (I'm half Irish myself)!
Gary - I'm going to dis-agree with you on this one. If you enjoyed each and every component of this meal - as I believe you did - then it deserves a TEN ! It really doesn't matter whether it's sausage and mash or beef Wellington - with that degree of enthusiasm and enjoyment, nothing less than TEN will suffice. At under £20.00, a meal that gives such satisfaction must attract the perfect mark.
The best bangers and mash for me was at the Nelson Head, Horsey, Norfolk. Three rare breed pork sausages on a bed of mashed potato and swede, dressed with young leeks, and lashings of gravy. I have a pic but I can't post it here. Yours, Gary, was equally as great!
I don't think I've ever bought sausage and mash in a restaurant but toad in the hole with mash is one of my favourite things to cook at home with red onion gravy and nice pork sausages
Hi Gary, New to your channel and really enjoying your reviews which are honest, helpful and insightful. After seeing this one from the ‘oldest’ pub in England, thought you should try The Crazy Bear in Old Beaconsfield Town. It’s another really old establishment and has some weird and wonderful decor with, apparently, some amazing toilets! The food is supposed to be top notch, so it would be interesting to get your take on it! Once again, we’ll done on the reviews and keep up the excellent work! Cheers!
Its expensive to run a restaurant and you pay for ambience and the experience. The food looked incredible. Compared to mayfair, price not that bad. Good work ! See you in london one day!
I would pay the high prices to ensure the survival of a historic pub. It's also expensive these days to run older establishments as their heating and electricity bills tend to be higher than newer buildings.
That's a fair point. Thanks for watching!
Too right,it’s not a pokey cocktail bar. It’s a pint in a bit of history ,worth the extra shillings
Well said!
I don't want to know how much it costs to heat a place like that for an English winter. I live in Richmond, Va., in a 1950's-era house with a gas-fired boiler system, and during bad Januaries and Februaries the gas part of the utilities can threaten $400.

Thanks Simon. I completely agree with you.
i agree
Surely, when it comes to food, it's the quality, not the quantity.
@@jeremyalexander8442 Totally agree!
Just shy over twenty quid for a great meal and a half pint in great surroundings, I think that is fair enough these days. Great vids Gary, thanks
Thank you Jeffrey!
I used to drink there in 1965 and after . Wondfull pub then, used to sit in the barrel room and the landlord used to come out and sit with the drinkers in those days on a winters night only maybe 6 or 8 of us. Happy memories.
Brilliant story. Thanks for sharing - a truly wonderful pub!
Great story, thanks
honestly gary youre channel is amazing youre so laid back love watching this
Honestly appreciate that so much Wayne. Thank you mate.
Yes like my wife. She lays back
*Excellent- and highly highly recommended 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
A fair review on the marks too.
Chef needs mentioning again. Sounds like he believes in good food and it reflects in his plates ,bravo
Agreed. The chef was very friendly and informative as well. Thanks for watching!

Very fair comment. I didn't mind the sausages like that but can understand why others prefer it a bit more cooked. Thanks mate, hope you're well!

Of course. I love reading comments so I appreciate the longer ones to get stuck into 😊
Your story isn’t pointless because many of us have great memories of meals & they won’t be forgotten. It was nice reading your memories.
Not pointless at all I love reading the comments. Cheers!

I am so envious of that meal, one of my most favourite meals… the sausages look delicious!
I have to say this was a fantastic pub, Nicolas

Thanks so much and this pub is lovely
Those sausages looked slightly pink to me mate(I’m sure you’ll let me know in about 5 hours time if they were uncooked),and I prefer mine to be charred on top….. good review of a classic boozer though…… where was the English mustard!?!?
All good mate. No problems on this side. Needed some bread and mustard, good point.
I agree they did look undercooked 😮
Hi Gary great review. I normally wouldn’t watch a banger a and mash review but that looked stunning. Well done to them👍👍
It was very tasty, but it was expensive, John
Fantastic review ,Fantastic Pub for a special occasion, eating out is expensive, I would not say its excessive for a historic Pub of that quality and" The best bangers and mash you have ever had" if I am passing again I will be calling in.
Well said! Hope you enjoy when you visit!
It’s pricey indeed but yes location is a factor
Great video, proper pint too! Best mash i've had has to be either Mother Mash or homemade (mum knows best!)
Thank you very much
Hello Gary, you are finding such beautiful establishment's, the food could almost be an afterthought, almost 😊 Simple, done well is the strength of British catering ❤ whilst you were eating CTP could have had a wandered about the place showing his ability (😮) Unless the sight of the drooling, dripping, dribbling no longer has an effect on you?
I love this place, been many times. Lovely beer on tap and some good traditional food.
Couldn't agree more!
I think the price was fare, the place is beautiful and the out goings must be huge . Well worth going for a special occasion 🤩. Oh I make a mean sausage mash and onion gravy ! See you in the next one Gary.🙏🏼💙🤩👏
Yes it was! See you on the next one Karen!
Did most of my courting in this pub over 40 years ago, lovely building in a beautiful village, it looks just the same. Always was expensive but good value for money. Thank yoh for the trip down memory lane
Wonderful. It's a beautiful pub!
They know what they are doing obviously, & did look quality 👍
Cheers Gary all the best! 🍻
£11.95 for a couple of sausages...! 😂🤣
@@46joe I know right? I think Gary paid £18.95 please correct me if I'm wrong... It's too much in my opinion, Gary's channel is great though 👍
@@46joe I just saw your a Pans people fan, I love their dance to "Do the hustle" it's honestly one of there best 👏
Thank you so much again Lisa. Really lovely place to go to and eat 👍
That looked fantastic Gary, awsome! You can not beat bangers and mash with proper butchers sausage.Great review bud👍
Thanks and you're spot on! 👍
Thanks Gary!! Great review! It looked really good ‼️🥰🙋♀️🐾🐾‼️Blessings to you and yours❣️
Thanks so much!!
Lovely pub. Like a time machine into the past. Bangers and mash spot on. Looked delicious. Nice video. Cheers.
Thanks 👍 it was superb!
What a lovely building to have a meal.Expensive bangers and mash but some this vs are worth the price as a treat
Agreed John. Lovely place.
Love ❤ the decor Gary ...I would live there! I can't believe 900 years...unbelievable! Love my snags 😂😂
This was a beautiful old pub Helen one of my favourites 🌹
@@GaryEats Hi Yes I am going to look at it again Gary...absolutely love the decor too! Well as the food! I have always loved The Tudor Period too! I have alot of memorabilia too...plus music my Phone ringtone is 'GreenSleaves'
Amazing building. I'd pay that for real sos n mash, n gravy. N beer. Love this vid. Work of art mate. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Patrick. Was really good!
Great review Gary and a great location. Have been there many times. Not cheap but have never had a bad meal. The Sunday roast is fantastic 😊
Excellent news - glad you enjoted it also. May have to go back and try it!
Looked delicious, agree it was a bit expensive though.
Wonderful old building - that's why I like Europe so much, here in Australia we have only had European settlement for quite a short time in comparison so the age of your buildings is incredible.
Kindest regards as always.
Thanks for watching Anne. Glad you enjoyed it. Also plenty of things that Australia has over Europe... would love to visit.
Longest B-roll of a Banger and Mash I've ever seen LOL but very effective :) well done for another great video Gary.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
enjoyed that video Gary, maybe a little English mustard would have gone well with the bangers, best sausages I have had at home are from The Black Farmer, delicious and my go to, Cheers Mike
Agree with you Mike. Thanks for watching :)
Love your videos, I love how down to earth you are and how you focus on the food keep up the great work
Thank you so much!!
The sausages here were excellent if a tiny tiny bit undercooked
can not beat a open fire gary how comes there was loads of people in there yet when you had your food it was empty did the cameraman scare them off lol 900 years old love places like the the food lookd brilliant that did seem a lotof money for what you got to be fasir just as well there was noy a service charge theep them going as i said really looking forward to the ones you are going to do up north all the best steve
Agreed Steve. I sat in another room with the cameraman so that we're not disturbing other diners! Although... the way he was dressed on the day probably scared them off haha. Completely agree with you, going up North tomorrow. Can't wait
Great video, the first of yours that I've seen. I'll make sure to seek this one out when I travel to England. Subscribed!
Thank you my friend!
Yes Gary went their with a friend a few years ago and agree with you but we (did)find it rather expensive, but what the heck for a once off experience ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT😊
Spot on!! It's a lovely place.
Looks great, I’ll definitely try when I’m passing next. Good review Gary mate.
Thank you Danny. All the best mate.
Those sausages look undercooked to me , a few minutes more on the grill is always safer . But it looks the business.
Fair enough George. They were ever so slightly pink but I don't usually mind that. Thanks mate.
Looks incredible, the presentation is beautiful, and that gravy looks delightful
Oh yes!!
Thanks Gary you have just made our choice for dinner really easy.. looked amazing👍🏻
Enjoy Mark. Glad to be of service!
Love going there in the summer. My favourite local pub.
Beautiful pub.
Yes price was excessive but if it had been crap then id complain big time ut you were obviously amazed and happy and that's what counts
It really is Fiona. Lovely place - Thanks for watching!
Methinks the pub is trading on its popularity and changing high prices accordingly. Way too expensive for a small portion plate of bangers & mash that didn't include peas and condiments.
I do agree with you Graeme. Lovely location but the price let it down!
I think you're paying for the quality of the chef and lovely venue 🤑
I agree with you Joanne. Thanks for watching!
Very nice Michael. Glad you enjoyed it, might have to give it a go!
Thank you Karen. Really beautiful historic pub!
Gary Eats! 😂
You've absolutely nailed it. It's a beautiful pub and building... haha you are too kind my friend!
I will do next time Jim. Very pricy but excellent food.
Beaconsfield prices for you Gary - looked tasty but I agree with other comments on an extra banger and some more mash. 7 out of 10 for me due to the price point.
Cheers Joe. Fair comment, maybe I was too kind. I think the location swayed me a little. Cheers mate!
I’m going through all your reviews I haven’t seen so apologies for the late comment , that sausage and mash looked incredible but having looked at the menu I’d have gone for the steak and kidney pudding and what a fabulous looking pub , great review as usual my friend 👍
Thank you Deano and I really appreciate you watching the older videos 👌
That is an amazing building!!
£18.95 for bangers and mash is over the top. I still think, despite being home made sausages, they were a bit under done. I'm old fashioned, pork should not be pink.
As always you give a fair review and I totally understand your score but I would not be able to score that high at that price. I would only be able to give an 8 at that price.
Your content is so good. Please keep going!!
I think you're spot on Andrew. The price was a bit of a shame as I think if it was a few quid cheaper - it would have been a ten. Anyways, onwards and upwards and I really appreciate your kind comments.
I think I saw £21.95 for fish and chips on the menu!!!!!😯
Correct! @@andrewhayes7055
Hiya Gary looks gorgeous place 😍 Love the series Midsummer Murders watch it all the time!
My kind of meal. Looks amazing 👍🏻
So good. Sausages were great!
Whatever about the price I love the way it is presented. It just looks so good how they present it to the customer
Yep. Superb!
Great call Gary sausauges looked amazing your score was fair as the sausages looked top notch !
For me, i would say 7.5 mainly based on the price, i can see it at £12 max never the less all the best to the chef !!
Totally agree Lee. Thanks mate :)
👀👀. Amazing building. 👌👍💯.
I give them 10/9. Price inclusive of location.
A good way of looking at it Martin. Thanks for watching!
@@GaryEats 🙏👍👌.
Always great content gary them sausages looked belting mate big piece of bread would of moped that gravy up pal 👍🏻
Agreed Howlie. Thanks mate :)
I've watched so many of your videos lately and I have to say I always feel the hugriest when it's Bangers & Mash (I think your video quality make them look even better) . Always look really tasty. Forget the price, those sausages looked 'the nuts'.😁😎
I appreciate that you're watching. The shots do look very nice!
Afternoon Gary👍I was hoping those sausages tasted as good as they looked, yes the price point is an issue for many(me included) though I would say the quality looked superb and eating in that type of stunning environment must help ease the pain in the purse a little. Another great review Sir ✌️🍻
Absolutely agree with you Martin. Thank you my friend :)
Food looked great small portion £15 max
Have to go back for the bangers and mash, mate! We went for their Sunday roast, not cheap, but the quality is there. My favourite place for bangers and mash is Mother Mash. Another fantastic review, Gary and keep up the fabulous work!
Thanks for the recommendation. Speak to you soon mate!
You seem to eat a lot of the places Gary goes to - thats some coincidence? :)
@@joecotter9014 pure coincidence, buddy.
Looked really nice Gary but was a bit pricey , cud have done with another sausage bit more mash ,great video as always .We live in York hope you get to visit soon x
Hi Yvonne. I agree with you. You'll be delighted to know that I'm in York tomorrow!
Whilst the food quality was good I still think even for £12 it's overpriced. 20 is a joke.
Yes, have to agree regarding the price.
The Bangers and Mash and Onion Gravy looked great.
It was!
Occasion, I thought the price was expensive for what was on offer, even though it was quality
That pub looked fantastic , food looked great also , i used to be a butcher and love my sausages ,they looked spot on . Only thing that would stop me buying that meal would be the price, but could be tempted lol .Good review again Gary
Thanks Lee 👍 Glad you liked it, the pub is excellent but the food is pricy.
Lovely Pub...Good Food...Excellent.
Thank you 😋
Looking at the hammered beam ceilings, I'm guessing it's probably a listed building and costs more than most pubs to maintain, hence the high prices. You didn't mention the price of the beer, and I'm guessing that wasn't cheap either. Like a few other people in the comments, I think an extra vegetable would have been fair, although the plate looked very big so maybe there was more than met the eye. Great review, Gary.
I agree. I think to justify the price, it needed a little extra. Thanks for watching!
Looks good, glad they source food locally and make their own sausages. For the money tho, could they not have thrown in a side dish of mixed veggies or something? Pub looks amazing. Great review👍7 outta 10 from moi😊
Yes, it needed a bit more to justify the price. Thanks for watching!
A piece of crusty bread for soaking up that gravy would have been handy. There was a pub similar to that in Norwich but unfortunately one half is now Wetherspoons and the other half a building society. Excellent review once again.
Good point Nigel and thank you
bangers and mash, lovely, PS love your reviews. 😋😋
Glad you like them!
I was never thinking Gary was a 'BIG sausage fan'? for some reason? looks awesome !
Behave Ben lol, 😂
There's so many places that get good old Sausage and Mash so wrong, but that looks fantastic and chopped chives on top as well!!!! Lets hope that no Ghosts were trying to nick your mash Gary?? The best Sausage and Mash I have ever had was at the Sarancens Head at Halsall near Ormskirk in Lancashire, a great pub on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the food was to die for, and all local produce, meat, fish and vegatables. Alas, since Covid its never been the same and haven't been for over a year...very sad!
Haha. This was absolutely superb David but a little bit pricy!
What an amazing place to eat in, I think you pay a premium in such a place but so worth it
Spot on Chris. Hope you're well!
My wife used to work there as a teenager and I've been there with her more recently. Lovely pub.
Fantastic. I agree.
I enjoyed your shows, and now I must take a trip to England and go to that pub with my adult son! Looks amazing!🤩
Enjoy David. Have a great trip with your son :)
Arrived in the UK with my 6yo yesterday. Can kids go to the pub?
Fantastic looking pub. Meal looked great also but, as you said, £18.95 for sausage and mash is extremely expensive.
It’s a fantastic pub a little pricey but top quality Gerwyn
Another great review Gary. Food looks excellent, but £19 for B&M is pushing the limits of what I would pay, regardless of quality!
Totally agree with you. Needs to be at least £4 cheaper and I would say that's fair. Thanks for watching!
If you can afford it you pay for a once in a lifetime experience!
Fair enough! Thank you :)
That is fantastic to hear and on this occasion they were very good but expensive
I don't think I've ever bought sausage and mash in a restaurant but toad in the hole with mash is one of my favourite things to cook at home with red onion gravy and nice pork sausages
Sorry for the late response, sounds delicious!
Hi Gary,
New to your channel and really enjoying your reviews which are honest, helpful and insightful. Cheers!
Thank you very much. That's very kind of you to say. I'll take a look - all the best.
Its expensive to run a restaurant and you pay for ambience and the experience. The food looked incredible. Compared to mayfair, price not that bad. Good work ! See you in london one day!
Thanks Daniel see you soon 👌
