Alright 49ers. You have your franchise quarterback, and he's way more than you could have expected. He resurrected a team that was dead in the water, and made them unbeaten for the remainder of the season, including wins over 2 playoff bound teams, 1 of which had the best defense in the NFL. He carved them up like a Thanksgiving turkey. He's going to have an entire off season of training, practice, and time to learn the offense more in depth and develop rapport with his receiving corp. You have an excellent situation at TE with Celek and a potential star in Kittle. There is a solid group of receivers with speed and elusiveness, so there is a definite need for a larger receiver. The kid from SMU could be an option in the draft, but I'd say signing Sammy Watkins would be a better move. Maybe even both if you decide making building around Garoppolo the top priority, which makes sense. It goes without saying the OL should be of paramount importance. Joe Staley is an all-time great 49er, and would be a great mentor to young offensive linemen brought in via the draft. Your situation at K and FB is as good as it gets. Defensively, SIGN A LOCKDOWN CORNER. I recommend Malcolm Butler, a teammate of Jimmy G.'s who also is steeped in a winning tradition, who just so happens to be a Super Bowl hero - against who happens to be your most bitter rival. There's also Trumaine Johnson, and there's also both. You have an inordinate amount of money to spend. Look back to the team that knocked you out of contention just a few years back, Seattle. The strength of their team was a lockdown secondary. One lockdown corner is good. 2 is even better. This would also allow your investments in your front line to be more productive. Speaking of which, you can never have too many quality pass rushers, so address that in the draft, and make a play on DeMarcus Lawrence. See what happens. John Lynch has an eye for what constitutes a quality football player, so I have faith you will do well in the draft. You're right there on the precipice of greatness. You have a young, talented, exciting football team that has character, the one thing you cannot teach. They showed resilience in a big way, and you can build upon that. That's solid ground, not shifting sands, and the same approach should be taken long term in the way of locking up quality players at key positions at a time that you can actually pull it off. Dude Z Tomsula inherited a gutted roster that lost nearly all of its relevant playmakers in the offseason. I'm not saying he did a perfect job coaching, but so many people place the blame completely on him for that season when only a coach like Belichick could have had a decent season with that team.

And how do you plan for this guy? His throwing motion is all tight, contained and a thing of beauty. He looks off defenders and then throws strikes. He's mobile and yet at home in the pocket. There is no planning for Jimmy G; there is only, bring your "A" game and hope that that will be enough.
Make him throw deep balls and cut off his short passing game. He's less accurate down the field. He's a great player, don't get me wrong, but he's not unstoppable.
How do you do that when he can throw to any of Kittle Taylor, Bourne, Goodwin or Juschek depending on the formation, or dump off to Mack? The Jags who have very good defensive personnel, tried to jam the short stuff and Jimmy G was still able to hang points on them. To jam the short pass you have to bring the safeties up. When you do that, a guy like Jimmy G doesn't have to go deep to stop you, he just has to target a guy who can go past the safeties if he catches the ball at full speed, and nail the throw, at that point it's a foot race and a gain of dozens of yards. Tom Brady's been doing it for years. Oh, and Jimmy G is much less vulnerable to the blitz than TB12 is, so there's that too.
I don't care what nobody says, Nobody in the NFC wanted to see this Team led by Jimmy in the playoffs, That guy was surgical out there. What he did to the Jags was indescribable
