If anything, you guys are reading too much into my initial statement and I no way was inferring that the Steve Young era was 'forgettable', merely that Joe Montana was the greatest, and that Jimmy-G is reminding me of him... Terrance Mann he’s impressive but don’t get too excited. Defenses didn’t have any film on the guy in this O. It’s like rookie pitching, the second time around( once they’ve seen you) it gets a lot harder. He looks like he has the tools but so did many others. Matt Shaub led the league in yards one year(2009).
he is undefeated as a starter(2-0 with the patriots). They had some film on him, he started 5-6 games by the time he played the jags and rams.
Elgoon Elmoon You can't really specifically study and dissect a pure pocket-passing QB like Jimmy G, an attempt to do so is a waste of time. People seem to think this is another Kaepernick situation when its really not; Kaepernick relied on the read-option offense which was the same system he used in college that catered to his strength as a running QB. Once the league figured him out via designating a QB spy, Kaep didn't have the skills or football IQ to transition to a more traditional QB role by just staying in the pocket and properly reading a defense and going through his reads.
Now with that said....when it comes to JG's playstyle he's really not doing anything new, Shanahan's system revolves around the WCO/spread-eye formation offensive schemes which has been a staple of the NFL since the Bill Walsh days. To scheme against Jimmy G would mean to scheme against the 11 men on that field, not just Jimmy specifically. JG's strengths lies in his intangibles that being his accuracy (throwing his WRs open), footwork, pocket presence, read progressions, pre-snap reads and leadership. Some of the things that all QBs need to elevate themselves to an elite level.
Jimmy's success will solely rely on his preparation and his coaching, both of which he excels at since he studied under Belicheck and Brady and has one of the league's top offensive minds as a HC in Kyle Shanahan.

I was too young to appreciate Montana's greatness, but I did grow up watching Steve Young... still a great QB but I really wish I was old enough to watch the goat himself. I have a good feeling we'll finally get to see the next goat with Jimmy G!
I grew up during the Montana-Young era. Yup, they were legends. Gotta say though, and I say as a lifelong 49ers fan it's not easy---Tom Brady's the greatest QB too date.

Impressive! Do quarterbacks get too much credit when winning and too much blame when losing? Probably, but this is why. The difference in this team is incredible. It shows how important the position is.

The 49ers were 3-24 the past two seasons prior to Jimmy starting and are 5-0 since he took the helm so your analysis is spot on. Watch out for that team now that Jimmy is the QB.

I'm a lifelong 49ers fan....I watched Montana and Young in their prime and all the drama that followed, the resurgence with Harbaugh/Smith/Kaepernick... and I couldn't be happier with Jimmy leading this team, alongside the new prospects we've been acquiring along the way...he's got the drive, the intelligence, the leadership, quick release and accuracy to lead this team beyond whatever weapons he has at his disposal. Mckinnon looks good, the defense looks strong (Hopefully Foster turns it around in time before the season starts pending his legal case), Garcon will be returning, Sherman will be talking trash...not to mention the draft up ahead...it's a good time. Jimmy G is a sharp read and elevates everyone around him...he's truly something to be excited about. With Shanahan coaching and Lynch prepping the roster, the NFC West better be on its tip toes, San Francisco is once again on the rise baby! Even with Suh on the Rams, he's a dirty player and will probably find a way to get suspended given his past of stomping on players after the play is over, I'm feeling confident this team is going to have a strong season this next year. Seahawks are on the decline...The Cards are in re-build mode...The time is ripe for the Red and Gold Resurgence!

Of all the many things there are to love about Jimmy, my absolute favorite thing about him is the way he keeps his eyes downfield. His pocket awareness is on another level...the amount of times he converts on 3rd down with pressure in his face is something special. Get ready Faithful! The best is yet to come.

I don't know about his footwork being perfect, but dude has one of the quickest releases I've ever seen. Sometimes I won't even see the ball come out and a moment later the WR or TE's running up the field with it. A great thing to see for a Niner fan!

This team is moving in the right direction. I'm a life long faithful... I haven't been this excited in a long time. More excited that I ever was with Harbaugh and Kaepernick. Harbaugh annoyed me with his inability to control himself and get the plays called quickly enough to avoid timeouts and delay of game penalties. Kaepernick was a big play, but big risk kind of player. Also, both of them managed to squander an opportunity to win the Super Bowl in the red zone, so... But Jimmy G has that it factor. Love his decision making under pressure and how he elevates the play of the guys he has around him. If they build around him we could be looking at multiple trips to the Super Bowl in the next decade or so

Great video, thanks. Jimmy is the real thing no doubt. He makes it look easy, and that is the mark of greatness. But the other players deserve props too. I watched all 5 games and can say there were very few dropped passes and fumbles. The mere presence of Jimmy made all around him perform at their peak levels and the team looked playoff ready. I think they would have done some damage too. Shanahan is a Godsend. I hope some of them return and get a chance to experience the team success that they are now likely to enjoy thanks to JG.
Having a good or a great quarterback means everything it means that the defense can’t blitz you as much so therefore you control the defense by moving your eyes and hitting the open man, man our offense look great with Jimmy Garoppolo
That quick release puts FEAR in the hearts of defensive coverage. He can manipulate the defense with only a shoulder flinch, no pump fake needed. That mixed with West Coast offense sending 4-5 receiver options out each passing play is just a lot for any defense to deal with. He's just plain deadly within the 0-20 yard range, which makes him deadly in the red zone also. He's the type of QB the 49ers organization deserves. The wild wild west is going to be good next year. I predict Seattle falls off.

Kaiser Tuumalo Brady grew up in candlestick park going to games with his season ticket holder parents and always idolized the great Joe Montana so I guess you can say sitting on the sidelines watching him all those years just kinda rubbed off on him later in his career... now jimmy sat on the sidelines of Brady after being drafted in 2014 and you can see how the form and poise is being passed down from one great qb to another. Awesome legacy’s past, present and in the makings.

JG is more than just a fast release qb in the west coast system. He actually reacts faster than the other players on the field so of course he’s gonna look like he’s a step ahead. Prolly has great eye sight and cognitive readings as well

Thank God the Niners are watchable again. I'm a Texans fan and before we got Watson I hoped we would trade for Jimmy G. This guy is already a difference maker and when Kyle Shannahan finishes putting this team together and getting them all up to speed the 49ers will take over the division. Garoppolo sounds just like Brady. From all the "huh"s to the way he screams. He has that same demeanor. The guy is just a leader. Its refreshing to see and hear after those Kaepernick years. All he did on the sideline is make sure he looked good. He didn't talk to anyone or look at tablets.
