He came in fourth place cause the other guys had crazier and harder sounds to actually produce. There are specific names to each sound in BBX. Codfish is what most people refer to as a melody beatboxer. His sounds are easier to vibe to but not as crazy or difficult as what the other guys produced for this year!
Just as you said, they produced crazier sounds, but from the musical standpoint Codfish was winner all along, he has that charisma, flow and delivery that get all of us hype and vibing

After watching the compilations, i recommend watching the "Codfish vs Bataco" (2018) and "Codfish vs D-LOW" (2018) battles. For me, these are two of the best fights in beatbox history.

The "solo" is a whole category including battles, so basically he came 4th in the solo event, not the solo performance :)
I been to a few of the beatbox competitions and the bass is real for the crowd you can feel it in your chest that is why a lot of people leave a crazy look on their face

The reason why the crowd is going crazy is because of codfish’s throat bass. You might not realize it cuz ur basically new to this but if you listen carefully you can hear a robotic type voice. That’s the throat bass

You should try out loop station or tag team battles of beatboxing. For loop station I’d recommend rythmind vs so-so (gbb 2019) and for tag team I’d recommend uniteam vs kotcha (gbb 2019)
