BlackTree TVs, Naja Hill, sits down with America Ferrera to talk about her new film Our Family Wedding. In this discussion, America talks about what role her culture and family played in her acting career and how perfect timing has led to some of her successes and opportunities.
"Our marriage, their wedding." It's lesson number one for any newly engaged couple, and Lucia (America Ferrera) and Marcus (Lance Gross) are no exception. In Fox Searchlight Pictures' OUR FAMILY WEDDING, they learn the hard way that the path to saying "I do" can be rife with familial strife. When they return from college and too suddenly announce their marriage plans, they soon discover that their fathers - two highly competitive over-the-top egos - can wreak a major amount of havoc on their special day.
With insults flying and tempers running high, it's anyone's guess if the alpha dads (Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia) will survive to make it down the aisle in one piece. Lucia's mother (Diana Maria Riva) is busy planning the wedding of "her" dreams and the only levelheaded one in the bunch is Angela (Regina King), the groom's father's best friend and lawyer, who manages to keep her cool when the madness reaches a crescendo.
With only weeks to plan their wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover the true meaning of love and find there is truth to the saying - that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.
OUR FAMILY WEDDING is directed by Rick Famuyiwa from an original screenplay written by Rick Famuyiwa, Malcolm Spellman, and Wayne Conley. The film is produced by Ed Saxon and Steven Wolfe.
America Ferrera (Lucia Ramirez) stars as the title character in the hit ABC series "Ugly Betty." America's portrayal of Betty has earned her an Emmy® for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy, A Screen Actors Guild Award® for Outstanding Performance for a Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, as well as ALMA and Imagen Awards.
America Ferrea secured her place as one of Hollywood's most bibrant young talents with her starring role in the Patricia Cardoso film REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES. Her performance earned her a Sundance Jury Award for Best Actres, an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance, and a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance for a Leading Young Actress. Her films include THE DRY LAND, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, THE SISTERHOOD OF TRAVELING PANTS 2 and many more.
