you connected the ground cable to the input of the starter resulting in a direct short when you activate the solanoid just like you on the john deere tractor
Great job Hank and Wily!! The ole gal was being pretty stubborn for sure. She didn’t sound too bad either lol. You and Wily put your heads together could probably cure a lot bad diseases lol. Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
Gotta tell ya Hank, when you suggested how convenient hanging that wrench roll with bungee cords would be, and Wiley replied "That'd be beautiful", he sounded just a little bit less than sincere. :P
Having done a few of these myself which took DAYS, I appreciate the long videos which show a lot of what is entailed in getting these old machines going. Love these videos!
looks like to me the ground wire isn't connected to ground its connected to the hot side of the starter. you have the ground on an insulated terminal on starter which is not a ground
I knew why it wasn't cranking, but I know you wouldn't hear me if I said anything. You got some better knowledge about starter wiring now though. It's fantastic that you have started that fund for a trade school scholarship, I hope a lot of kids are helped, public education is not funding trade school education like there used to be. Auto shop is no longer a high school class any more in some districts. God bless you too Hank! 🙂
Put it in your pocket....song by Sonia Leigh I notice you use the starting fluid very limited. Back in the 1970's I worked on a construction crew and every morning we would squirt two cans at a time into the excavator constantly until it was running. Sometimes we would put 4 cans or more in on really cold days.
You two always crack me up! I love this channel! Hey, hank, do me a favor, when ya run them little fuel pumps, put the can above the pump. Theyre designed to push, not pull. It'll work better. Keep up the good work boys.
Sorry Hank I bought a pair and I. Less then 2 months of use they started coming apart and they where uncomfortable I switched back to timberland boots and the a lot more comfortable
Wiley that is not a ground on the starter it's + power goes in top nut then when you hit key it comes out bottom nut across that thin metal to the other nut into the starter motor
Enjoy your content. Thank you for your military service. 🇺🇲 Just ordered my first pair of Georgia Boots! Can't wait to get them. Thanks for the discount code too!! Keep up the good work!
Got a funny for you, was sitting in the shop binge watching Wily and You and the neighbor boy came to ask if he could fish and he started watching Y'all and said Y'all sound like his Nana & Papa always arguing with each other. I had on the backhoe video from a few months back with yall changing out the starter. I couldn't stop laughing at what he said.
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting. Congratulations. You two gentlemen got it running. Yea-!!!!!!!! Hard to get going but once it started it was running. Need some TLC on the engine and other parts and should be usable. Nice work Hank and Wiley. You did great. Thanks. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.
Amazing to see the ole girl running...they like to put up a fight but ultimately I think they wanna run. That machine intact and a bit of work would serve someone well. Bet pound for pound she's built heavier than anything today. Great to see ya helping a friend...lead by example 😊🚜🛠️🇺🇸🔧😎😇🧑🔧
you gots the blue etti you need to let the batteries recover. The starter is stuck the bendix is stuck out and not returning lube the starter. Put the batteries on charge or get a good jump box
First off, I love y'alls videos! I subscribed to you & Wiley's channels & seen/liked bout every video! At first ya drove me NUTS with your mostly horrible dad jokes Hank! But I kept watchin cause I liked your content... And Wiley of course! Lol! But after awhile ya started to grow on me! Y'all seem like good folks! Like y'alls just a couple good ol God fearin, average southern boys(except Wiley! He's above average!😂) & that's just so nice to see these days! Thanks so much again for y'alls very entertaining videos! Lol!... Oh & the whole "that thangs makin oil" deal y'all say, I F'ING LOVE THAT!!! EPIC!!! Reminds me of the kinda thangs my papa'd say when we was workin on rigs n such when I as a youngen! Good S y'all! Keep it up!!
Hank just add some heat through the intake with a blow torch or something to add heat while cranking as those old pre-combustion chamber engines need heat to start. They either had an intake heater, glow plugs and often ether injection. Good luck, love to see it run so I'll finish watching now 😂
For a stand get one of those steps that goes over the tire that way you guys could put the batteries on it ,or put the tools on it ,i have one that i use to work on my truck engine. Im 5' 8 , i got mine from a garage sale.
Hank and wiley just an idea. How about keeping a cordless grinder around to make a good ground connection. Great video by the way guys. Keep up the good work. You too are working good together bad jokes and all.
just thinking you guys could get a small folding table to sit your batteries on for a flat surface anywhere you go ; excellent videos i'm actually learning alot from two nonmechanics lol
Rust and painted areas is not going to ground good you need a cordless grinder so you can clean for a good ground . it only takes a minute to put a battery on a charger in the morning when you going out the door and when you come in at night put the charger on the other battery lol . I would get more battery cables and extra end's
Gotta love your video's as Wally reminds me of myself just won't give up!! Hay why don't you guys get a truck mounted jump starting system with cord reels so you don't have to drag batteries around and they would stay charged?
Just a tip guys you always need an air kill board and a way to stop the intake air when doing them old diesel starts and remember anything you pour down the intake is fuel and is what causes the runaway so be ready to choke it because it will run away. Its also scary when you guys do these starts with no one in the driver's seat when you try to start it. Remember safety 3rd. lol
I been thinking maybe a dolly with angle iron shelf's welded to it would help you guys out from walking batteries around. I know not in every situation is the same for you guys.

From one veteran to another, thank you for your past service to our country.
LOL, you can not connect the ground to the power post of the starter motor, i have seen yaw do this several times,
My thoughts exactly a few times, you would think by now they would know that smh
It was painful to watch that part!
Old Wiley can’t hardly see😂
I was ready to say that too !
I was waiting for you to start singing "Smoke....on the starter."
Thanks!
you connected the ground cable to the input of the starter resulting in a direct short when you activate the solanoid just like you on the john deere tractor

Gotta tell ya Hank, when you suggested how convenient hanging that wrench roll with bungee cords would be, and Wiley replied "That'd be beautiful", he sounded just a little bit less than sincere.

I knew why it wasn't cranking, but I know you wouldn't hear me if I said anything. You got some better knowledge about starter wiring now though. After it run a little bit it started sounding good I am glad you and Wiley got it going
If you’re jokes are bad enough that makes them funny 😁 Hank is the master of it
The song you were singing around the 1.08.00 mark was "Back Pocket" by Vulfpeck (I think).
indeed!
Sorry Hank I bought a pair and I. Less then 2 months of use they started coming apart and they where uncomfortable I switched back to timberland boots and the a lot more comfortable
ALWAYS ENTERTAINING
Wiley that is not a ground on the starter it's + power goes in top nut then when you hit key it comes out bottom nut across that thin metal to the other nut into the starter motor

Relays throws but the starter motor isn't. Missing a wire ? Is the kill line enabled or the switches inside different ?
Hi Hank, hey Wily, Hank you need to get a Dewalt battery operated grinder so you can grind the paint and rust off to get a good ground
You'll need a portable table that you can set stuff on.
We've done that in the past. Every now and then we'll pull it back out.
@@Hfoutdoorsytgoing to watch fnaf tonight?
yes you do groung to block or frame ground is on starter hot from the solenoid
Nice work.
that side post on th starter is not a ground
Great job yall at least ya finally got her goin 👍🏻👍🏻

great video as always. thats a great thing your doing sending students to better themselves.
Thank you.
Get some of them harbor freight magnets with the hooks on them for the wrenches!! Have ones you could bolt right to the wrench bag also. Just an idea
Couple Of Good Ole Country Boys Willing To Help Someone In Need
Is that a positive ground?
I know I am too late but always hot wire goes to solenoid terminal ground to block or frame
Hank and wiley just an idea. How about keeping a cordless grinder around to make a good ground connection. Great video by the way guys. Keep up the good work. You too are working good together bad jokes and all.

Gotta love your video's as Wally reminds me of myself just won't give up!! Hay why don't you guys get a truck mounted jump starting system with cord reels so you don't have to drag batteries around and they would stay charged?
Hot flame at the intake will help if glow plugs aren’t working
Love the longer videos
That Tool pouch, you might be able to use some magnets to hold it up on. Equipment
A good cross Thread is better than lock type any day.🤣
lol. True

A hard day at work😊 good job boys 👦 😊
You always have a issue with those cables add a foot to both and use a 4 1/2 in grinder to make a ground spot
I been thinking maybe a dolly with angle iron shelf's welded to it would help you guys out from walking batteries around. I know not in every situation is the same for you guys.
