    The Anvil Industry models are by far incredible quality. And the scale is more in line with GW plastics. And the resin is superb.

      Yea... I immediately went over and went through all the bits.. The awesome thing is that you can pick the bits separately.
      I started to put together stuff for 18 complete guys that look like what I thought would be most like death korps and I was still below 60 pounds.
      I definitely consider this an option for a future project as soon as I have finished my Cadians from the starter box I recently bought to get started.

    It's even worse here in the States. I stupidly built an all-Forge World Space Marine chapter for a while. I envisioned them as castaways from the greater Imperium scrounging gear. Anyway, with the currency conversion rate and overseas shipping costs, you basically have to be a drug dealer to build a Forge World army.

    Steel Legion also make a great budget DKoK army. Similar aesthetic, a little older but generally cheaper. While they are almost always sold out in the US on GW's website, you can buy them on ebay for pretty cheap at times. As they are pewter metal it is very easy to strip paint off of them with acetone & a brush, without worrying about damaging the model.
    Its really bizarre watching GW lose tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to 3rd party distributors because they refuse to meet demand. IG players have been asking for GW to update the existing regiments to plastic for nearly 20 years and they refuse to do it because "The molds are expensive". Meanwhile 3rd parties release tons of new models all the time & its a non issue. They also generate enough revenue doing so to remain in business.
    As Valve's Gabe Newell says: "Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem."

    • @MordianGlory
      @MordianGlory  7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Very Very true, I just think GW doesnt care and has always pushed IG as a tank faction anyway.

    As much as I like DKK I have the problem of living in the US, and I can buy a box of regular guardsman at GW prices for 22 dollars, meaning on average I'm pay 2.20 per model before sales tax. The prices given here would after all taxes and shipping taken into account would be more expensive than that option for me.

    • @MordianGlory
      @MordianGlory  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Check out Mad Robot Miniatures. The make Guard-style bits (read: whole figures in individual parts) and operate in the US. They're my go-to conversion company. Still, if you want bargain prices plastic Cadians are the go-to just because GW makes that 5-man snap together kit, letting you pay less than $2 per man if you shop well.

    BTW if you bulk buy from anvil you can save more, they have a platoon selection option where the more you get the more you save on them, so if you wanted to form a "full infantry army" in a single bulk buy you can actually make it more cost effective.
    For £271 (ie less then the platoon of death korps from fw which is 4 squads, a command, 2 heavy weapon squads which is £295) you get a platoon command, 8 infantry squads, enough special weapons for them, 2 heavy weapon squads.
    Anvil are flooring it there. You can even add more to the order if you want (max inf squads but more special weapons if you want more models for carrying them for variation) and more heavy weapons, iirc you can have up to 5 of each in the order and they also are cheaper the more you buy too.
    Kind of a shame FW wont go this far into savings for people.

    • @MordianGlory

    I'll stick with regular Death Korps models for my regular infantry, but when it comes to conscripts? Forget about it, I'm using this site! Beats slapping a bunch of Cadians on the table and calling them a penal legion, anyway. Granted, Krieg actually has no access to Conscripts in 8th Edition... at least, not under the same Regiment name. But I can totally take Conscript blocks and an officer or two, and call them whatever Regiment keyword I want, and play them alongside my Death Korps, anyway.
    I may actually consider these guys for Special Weapons teams, as well.

    Warping can be easily fixed by dipping it in boiling water for 5-10 seconds. You don’t need to manually move it or touch it, just dip it in and let gravity go to work.

    Funny you should post this, I just finished painting my order of about 100 anvil industry heads (open faced stahlhelms and gasmasks) and they look amazing on cadian bodies. The quality is top notch, no casting errors, great detail and almost no cleanup. I've tried a couple of different 3rd party heads and Anvil's are by far the best, on par with GW quality, and they have a great range of other bits to go with the heads if you want to do more than just a headswap.

    • @roberthultz9023
      @roberthultz9023 ปีที่แล้ว

      I felt the same way about the Forge World Drop Troops - Spent a small fortune over the course of a year and acquired a 100-120 of them. They are a pain in the ass to assemble but look great if you can get the hands to reach over to the weapon. Without a lot of dry fitting you end up with models looking down at their feet, etc... And - they are so delicate I'm afraid to put them on a table ! I have 50 or so Anvil Grenadiers ; one of the best hobby investments I've made this century: totally modular; affordable; actual fun to assemble { you can cant the torso so the fig will be looking left or right } and robust enough to put on the tabletop with a bunch of clumsy oafs.

    Before assembling the Forge World models with the warped parts, try to boil some water, pour it into a bowl or something, and then dip the affected part into the water for a little bit (not your hand of course) and you'll see the warped part will become very easily movable. After that you have a short time to straighten it before it cools and rehardens in the new shape. It's not just warming it, you need it to be in HOT water or it doesn't do anything. I've used this method to fix everything from warped chainswords to warped Vanquisher tank gun barrels with my Death Korps models.

    • @MordianGlory
      @MordianGlory  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip. But to be honest we shouldnt need to do this when paying top dollar for forgeworld. At the prices they demand every model should be perfect.

  • @SoulSoundMuisc
    @SoulSoundMuisc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had just begun collecting my Death Korps force when Forge World pulled their most recent price hike nonsense. I am perfectly capable of affording that price hike, but it's a matter of principal. I was about to collect a Death Korps Regiment, fully kitted, and a Titan Maniple as well... Not any more.
    For Titans, I'm sunk, until Forge World collapses under its own weight and GW gets their heads out of their backsides and starts producing plastic kits, or just takes over the resin kits.
    For Death Korps, I quite like the Anvil Industries look. I also very much like Victoria Miniatures. Very good sculpts and prices on both. I'll be fielding those as my Death Korps of Krieg.
    The Death Korps models I initially ordered will now become a Kill Team, and nothing more.

    Alot of the issues for krieg is simply the moulds are old and heavily worn, FW has not replaced them in a long time it would seem.
    In fact, good chunks of stuff like grenadiers and the assault centaur are no longer sold simply due to the moulds degrading and needing to be replaced apparently.
    I have been tempted to do the anvil industries models for my army, i only have artillery and death riders from FW so far, tempted to go with the brodie helm/mask heads for a bit of british style.
    Death mask is very likely to be grenadier used.

    The only issue I have with Anvil, is that every time I visit their site I almost leave with another Imperial Guard special forces contingent. Didn't think I needed an independent urban warfare commando detachment until I found Anvil.
    Additional alternatives to Death Corp of Kreig Victoria miniatures Rasenburg Siege Corp. Heroic scaled male and female figures(no pin-ups so they blend well in rank and file) with ww1 german hats and greatcoats and a few choices for standard issue weapons) No gas masks but you can always ask for Heximheim stormtrooper heads if you want gas masked helmets instead of caps.
    38ish Pound for 10 so they are on the dear side, but you'll forgive that when you see them.

      Depends on which regiment you follow. I have seen nice conversions of the French Heavy Cavalry from Perry Miniatures as rough riders for my mordians (www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/297738-Mordian%20Iron%20Guard%20Rough%20Rider%20Conversion.html), which I will build.
      For Catachans, I seen really nice conversion on this dakkadakka post (www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/365499.page).

    Anvil Industries models are awesome. I do play at 2 games workshop stores and a few other FLGS here in Chicago. So I am limited to using GW/FW models. I do however use AI bits on GW models which I havnt gotten slack for yet at a Games Workshop yet.

      GW doesnt mind too much if you buy the models from them and convert them a bit e.g. a head swap. They still got all the money off you they were going to get. They just do not like people using full 3d party armies, which is fair enough in their own stores.

    The models looks amazing. Very affordable compared to Forgeworld.
    Sadly, being in Australia, forgeworld is something like $100 for a squad [the cost of 2-3 Cadian infantry squads from GW], but this squad is about the price of 1 Cadian inf squad, + $5 - $10.
    Regardless, these looks amazing, and I like how you mentioned, Krieg conscripts, for 27 pound... they all have lasguns. Perfect! Affordable conscripts.

      On a side note, I would love to see you do cheaper alternatives for other Cadian Regiments such as the Tallarn Desert Raiders, Armageddon Steel Legion or the Vostroyan Firstborn. I would love to run an alternative regiment instead of Vanilla Cadians or Catachans but GW makes it pain in the ass to collect the regiments as they are either in metal or sold on Forgeworld which costs $$$$! Much appreciated, keep up the good content!

  • @newtpondskipper
    @newtpondskipper 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If they still sold them the best way to fill up squads for Death Korps was the upgrade standing troops for the Gorgon Transport. Sadly was only able to get two before they stopped selling them. Yes, you did have to clip them and do a little greenstuff sculpting as a few were tougher to clip. Besides the look of them(which is what drew me to DKoK in the first place) I love the scale of the models. Heroic is fine with marines and such but IG look wrong with those monkey paws the Cadians and Catachans have now for their plastic models.

    • @MordianGlory

    resin warping is a pain, My thunderhawk gunship came with the lower hull completely banana shaped, had to clamp it to a plank in a bucket of hot water for half an hour then slightly tighten the clamps and repeat the process. made me want to pull my hair out.

      Mordian Glory It took 9 weeks to arrive so thought it was best to just try and work with it. I have had warped vehicle kits from fw before and when I contacted them they just said to use the hot water process or super glue/ putty for repairs, Apparently its in the small print on the terms that everything they sell is for experienced modellers and warping or air bubbles is an unavoidable part of working with resin.

  • @OneTwoMilsim
    @OneTwoMilsim 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The flashing and warping are incredibly easy to fix. I've worked with incredibly warped Warlord titan pieces, which are magnitudes thicker than anything in the DKoK line and been able to fix them. I would guess the problem is with your technique.

      Same, Mordian. I've bought 3rd party resin products multiple times now and never heard anything about warping until I started reading about GW products.
      Between that and the finecrap fiasco it really makes you think about how a massive company like GW can be outdone in quality by a one-man operation like Mad Robot Miniatures.

      I'd recommend using a hairdryer instead of hot water for bending warped parts. I spent ages with water initially and only had success with really thin bits (like cables for Krieg grenadiers). Hairdryers are definitely the way to go! Anvil Industry are fantastic though.

    Have you tried using a blow dryer to warm them? It is a lot more effective, but you have to be careful because too much heat can warp it in a different way. Easy to fix, but requires care. Warm water doesn't work as well so yeah, I can understand the concern.

      Hey buddy, I have a late war WW1 list. its a mix of conscripts, regular infantry and Leman Russ tanks. its 1500 points. Nor stormlord I am afraid, but not sure if they would have had anything list that in WW1 :P
      Most 8th games are 2000 points so you will have 500 points to add in extra units that you think are cool. Link below:

    I really like the tox troopers, but not for DKoK. They'd make great renegade guardsmen, maybe leaning towards the nurgle side. My three gripes are 1) they're too slim, and it's a simple looking problem to fix for the company. 2) they're a bit too pre assembled, as I'd like to put one in a scout sentinel or in a tank hatch, but that's an easy ish fix. 3) as an American shopper I'm subjected to shifting currencies and I assume high shipping fees. But that's easy to anticipate
