I love how I feel as if I'm right there with you shelling when watching on my 4K Xmas present. I open the door and let the sounds of the waves and the smell of the salt air here sweep through my office to enhance my adventure!!!....raining outside right now, so now that the video has come to a close; suppose I should close the door and once again thank you for letting me tag along on yet one more shelling adventure!!!

My husband and I just got back from Florida Saturday and we had the opportunity to go to SWF and Southeast. We stayed on singer island a few nights and had amazing results! However most of them my husband and I fought the Atlantic for and shelled the break line! At one point I did an uphill somersault 😂 My body is still recovering! We did find 3 intact lions paws, a distorsio, several moons, scotch bonnets, 2 hawk wings (both broken but 80% plus on both still intact), a perfect queen helmet and a hairy triton fully intact! Plus lots of other goodies! Not bad for our first time shelling the Atlantic! Just wanted to say thank you, if it wasn’t for your videos we would never know these beautiful places existed!! (Had a blast on Juno too, could the water get any more gorgeous! Amazing!)

I love this video from the beginning sunrise to the last shell. I lived in Florida for 16 years with my husband, the love of my life. We lived on the west coast, but every chance we had we would drive over to the east coast and get a hotel on the beach. He was a photographer, so we spent most of our time making photos. He passed away in 2019 and I moved back to Texas to be near my family. I miss Florida and my life in paradise. Your video of the ocean roar, the sunrise, all of the shells brings back the beautiful memories. Thank you.

Your taste in shells compared to mine are so different.
I was dying to see shells I would cover, being overlooked.
We have our own tastes and likes.
I live in Southern California and all the shells, once lining our beaches have been gobbled up by the masses...not real Californians.
The beach waves are like ours, mostly crashing onto the shore. We don't run away from them, we plunge in.
I love both lapping and crashing water...AND I would have waded into a shell piled, sit down, spend the day sifting through every shell possible.
Oh I am heart aching and envious.
That gorgeous sight of God's creation and beauty...worth much more than money could buy.
You are truly and deeply blessed.

I usually have shelled on Sanibel but not on East side of Florida...I am amazed at the shell pile here! And interesting shells too! I think a shelling trip to this side would be good! Especially since Sanibel needs to "heal". Thanks for a wonderful video!!

Hi friend! Shelling on the east coast of Florida is quite a different experience to shelling on the west coast of Florida. While shelling here can often be hit or miss, you'll never find disappointment in the beauty of the wild Atlantic Ocean! It's often electric blue colored here, because of the impact of the Gulf Stream!
Good luck on your trip, and thanks for watching!

We've been watching your amazing videos for a long time and I just want to send along a huge 'thank you' for all the work you do in bringing these videos to TH-cam and sharing your adventures. It's very inspiring and extremely fun to watch. We're in the Jupiter area so we always really enjoy seeing what you find on our nearby beaches. Your discovery of that Junonia piece in this video is an absolutely incredible find. • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  ปีที่แล้ว +1

These shells can indeed be tough to distinguish between. One key indicator for a Bittersweet Clam is the thin ribbing on the shells...this goes for Spectral, Giant and Decussate Bittersweet Clams - all of which can be found in SE Florida. Calico Clams don't have that ribbing, and their patterning is more spotted/blotchy. Calico Clams are also more elongated(wider than they are, tall), than Bittersweets are.

I think you are right on the Gaudy!
I have found a few interesting color variations of Natica shells in SE Florida over the years, including a separate species called the Florida Natica(Natica tedbayeri), which is a cousin of the Gaudy. The shell here appears to be lacking most of the other pigments aside from the zingy orange patterning we would normally see on a Gaudy - such a cool find!

    • @solaceinshelling6552

Interesting question! These shell piles are pretty fair weather, meaning they often disappear just as quickly as they appear, with the tides. I always try to walk around the edges if I have shoes on, but sometimes it's impossible to find goodies, if you don't move into the middle(with the bigger piles). With all of that said, most often in these types of piles, I'm on my hands and knees looking closely, lol!

In all honesty, I think the best guidance I can give anyone who is looking to shell in earnest, is to prepare for the expectation, that there really can't be any expectations. Contrary to what some may think, there really is no magic spot, and there is SOO much that is dependent upon tide, weather, luck etc.
I will say though, I have an upcoming episode where I got skunked pretty bad on a 2 day road trip to find specific few types of shells, because I had an expectation to find those types of shells - it was a learning experience for me! Fortunately, I have been able to think of a way to combine it with another episode in a way that's really cool - stay tuned!
