I started playing tennis with at Classic Dunlop Aerogel 300 98. My coach let me have it for like $20 (poor kid) and I used it for my entire high school tennis career. That is my favorite racket of all time just off pure sentimental value. I don't know if it was actually good or how it rates on all the specs because back then I was just having fun and swinging big. It took me from #3 mixed line all the way to #1 singles. Sadly it was stolen out of my car years ago :( DUNLOP WHEREVER YOU ARE DADDY LOVES YOU!
Loved that racket man! Played with it college after a friend let me hit with his. Is there anything that plays similar these days? I'm so out touch with the latest rackets.
Hopefully brother Beckett can guide us to something similar. These days I use a Blade 98 but I'm also a lot older and weaker these days so who knows how it compares. @@jamesj1382
Wilson pro staff 85. I used it as a junior and NCAA D1 tennis 92-96. Yeah I'm old. I played serve and volley so this raquet was perfect. I think it's used to win more majors than any other. Sampras, Courier, Edberg, and even Federer from juniors all the way to 2002. Thanks for your show.
My favourites, no order: babolat pure drive team ‘swirly’, Wilson Ksix-one 95, volkl c10 pro, head extreme tour, and my current favourite Dunlop cx 400 tour
Gotta put the Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 on the list as well as the Wilson ProStaff 6.1. 95. Prince Original Graphite both 90 and 110. And maybe we throw in a Fischer Vacuum 90 for good measure.
Great video! My top five favorite racquets (again, not the best but favorite…also I’m 51 so I’ll have a broad range of faves) - no particular order: Dunlop max 200G (high school racquet), prince triple threat warrior, extreme tour, radical line in general, and the origin just cause it’s so freaking fun 😜
My favorite tennis racquet is the 2018 Babolat Pure Aero VS Tour 98 head. This racquet is well balanced and provides heavy top spin using any poly or multi strings at low tension eg 45 to 48 pounds. My favorite racquet!!Like it so much!!
Babolat grommets and bumpers just never last. Ive got pure drives from 2001 which are the "swirly" models. I dont use them anymore because i cant get the head guards replaced. I recently got an iprestige which is as close as i could get to having the old red head prestige classics from the 90s. Im on the search for a pro staff tour90 before the ncode which roger won his first wimbledon with.
All time favorite racquet is the Wilson Ntour 95. It was my first serious tennis racquet I bought on my own, love the orange paint job, and a favorite player used/endorsed a version of it, Justine Henin. I would use it again if Wilson brought it back to being more flexible. The Burn/Ultra versions of the tour were way too stiff feeling.
In my short experience, I like almost every racket (of the few) I tried. But If I had to pick up just a few special ones, that would be my blade 98s v8 (the racket I actually use in matches), the Graphene Touch Prestige MP (back when the "MP" meant 95 sqin and ultra-tight 18x20) which was actually really surprising, I bought it on sale just out of curiosity but felt scared to play with such a small head and a "pro" frame, or so it was called. I expected it to be much more unforgiving. On the contrary, it may be a little harder to return heavy balls with it, but in general it just really feels like an extension of your hand. And the most special of them all, the Prince Tricomp 90. I bought it 2nd hand (obviously) because it was my father's racket, and the first one I played with back when I was a kid. It's quite a heavy one, 350g, 33cm, 350 sw in stock form. But man does it make you serve good. Feels great overall. Only I feel guilty everytime I play with it, because I heard the fiberglass frames felt pretty good but didn't last long... In fact my father's is broken, can't remember if it was just playing or a little mischief by me or my sister...
I love the subtle power of the boom pro, but the stability and forgiveness of the Gravity Pro. Somehow, I feel like my ideal racket if it existed would be a 100sq inch Boom Pro at 315grams. (Basically the gravity Pro specs, but in the mold of the Boom). I’m always switching between the two of them depending on how I’m feeling and the day, but I think that config would satisfy all my needs. But for now: 70% of the time gravity pro for the forgiveness, Boom 30% of the time for the added power on ground strokes
@@jorgeandrescoppianoI did, but now that you mention it, that probably would have been what I’m looking for. I think I didn’t like it because at the time I demoed it, the strings tension was so loose and springy, it didn’t make for an enjoyable playing experience (while the other 2 had fresher strings)
Great video. My ROAT is the Wilson blade 100 v8 with some lead in the handle and at 3/9. I had (had or tried) a lot of racquet but never felt a stick so well balanced and trusty.
This list checks out for someone with a two hander, the people saying the old pro staffs should be on the list most likely come from a one handed backhand, the specs just work for one handers IMO
I loved my Wilson Hyper Hammer 6.6 racquets with freakin' ROLLERS which did absolutely nothing. They played amazing though and the rollers somehow never broke. Just want to say I love the moments in the videos where you make some egregious hitting error and it's just spliced in there with all the good shots
The Solinco Whiteout and the 2018 Yonex Vcore 95 are both great racquets. I recently acquired a Technifibre T-fight RS 305 on clearance and, per your endorsement, paired it with Grapplesnake Tour Sniper. Over 330 SW, really comes through the ball well. You should give it a swing if you get the chance.
1. Yonex Regna 98 V2 (V1 & V3 isn't quite the same feeling, not as solid and special), just a unique feeling, great connection to the ball (especially for yonex, normally more muted) but more unforgiving than you'd expect, off centre shots can be very weak and it flexes differently to anything I've tried, feels both stiff and flexy in different ways, can't describe it. 2. Tecnifibre Tf40 315 16x19, fast, solid, more stable than expected, nice on the arm without feeling soft and floppy surprisingly consistent string bed for a control racquet. 3. Wilson Pro Staff RF97 V10 (Red & Black), so smooth hitting through the ball and really easy at returning bigger shots, super stable. 4. Wilson nCode 6.1 95, a lot of nostalgia here, nothing else has the same connectivity to me, feeling everything, both the good and bad. 5. Babolat Pure Strike 98 V2 (Project one 7), No real weaknesses, easy to use for most levels, great control and feel, especially good feel compared to other Babolats (never liked any other Babolat for feel.)
Head Pro Tour 280 and Wilson PS85 for me. no other rackets give me that kind of control and mass-based power, unfortunately a shoulder injury prevents me from hitting with these for too long. currently play with a Head Ti Radical MP and it does the job for it being so damn light in comparison haha
I had the Dunlop force 100s with dunlop silk strings. Loved it. Smashed it in a rage. Can't get hold of one now. Got the Force 98 2nd hand but it's not half as good.
My hitting/TH-cam partner got a chance to barrow the PT346.1 frame (has Djoker printed on the throat) from a friend of his and I got to hit with it as well. The PT346.1 has a very beefy SW but it didn’t disappoint. Plows the ball like no tomorrow but effortless. I’ll see if I can get my hands on it again and make a video review about it. I might add in Fedal, and Muzz frames too for a “Big 4”review. (Maybe Stan too to make it “Big 5”) 😬
LM Radical is a great choice and idk if it's underrated but people aren't talking about it enough. Liquidmetal was also the last good model of instinct lol
I still use the LM radical midplus. I keep thinking if getting something new, but I don’t really have any issues with it and hard to test racquets where I live. Will a modern racquet like the Whiteout feel significantly different?
@@jingususi have the radical LM mp and if matched with lead it's very comparable to the Dunlop cx200 tour 18x20. The beam of the Dunlop is a thinner and a little bit more flex, but the head shape, the string spacing are very similar. The LM having a little bit more direct put away power, the Dunlop tad more control and feel
aero original is the best aero Ive tried, Big Rafa fan as well but cant gel with the aero because of my playstyle... the raw and control of the original is topnotch,,,,for me my top frames are the IG prestige MP, phantom 93ps, rf97, microgel prestige and ultra tour
You should try the Head Liquidmetal Radical MP TOUR if you can find one, it is 30g heavier than the regular MP and probably the most similar to what Djokovic used when he began to play with this model.
Don't forget the Snauwert Ergonom. A young guy who had been to an Academy and had some ATP points had a Pro Kennex Black Ace 98 and said it was the best racket he's very played with. However as I've mentioned before we must all have a Wilson T2000 to remind us of the horror of the past and enjoy technology now.
My favourite racket is the six-one 95 tour (18x20). The two that stand out for me was the n-code and the blx versions. Used it for about 15 years but can't use it as well as I used to, so moved to the pro staff 97 v13 which is more managable. Though I do enjoy breaking them out from time to time.
I never got to try the APD original, but my favorite racquet is 2013 APD, currently using 2022 Pure Aero since it’s back to APD string spacing. My list: 2013/2022 APD/Pure Aero either works Pure Aero VS Vcore Pro HD Regna 98 Pro Tour 630 OG
SOooooo true, I just picked up another Original Aero Pro because the grommets on my other 2 are just about dead and it's difficult to find replacements.
Yonex Ezone DR98, bought it for 170 and had to sell for 100 because the grip size was too big for me. It was such a good feeling racket. It's hard to find rackets because I have to use the smallest grip size so I just settle for the Tecnifibre Tfight 300 RS. I stopped caring about equipment now, I just focus on improving my technique.
i actually really like ur off-the-cuff comments on these racquets. u should experiment a little more with non-scripted videos in the future if u feel comfortable with it, it felt like podcast almost :)
If you want to try a Prestige PT57A I think the Donnay Pro One is the same mold. I have one and if you are still in Vancouver is be happy to let you hitt with it.
Somewhat surprised Head hasn't pulled a Prince Diablo and re-released the Liquidmetal Radical in some capacity. I'm sure they're very aware their current racquets aren't quite the same. When I looked at them in high school they had already hit the discontinued pile for the Flexpoints that were terrible. Even though I loved that frame I went another way to make sure I could easily find a replacement since online retail wasn't quite built up yet. :/
Does Mantis still make racquets? I'll assume you can still get them in Europe and the UK at this time. They are very hard to come by in the United States. I am looking to purchase a Mantis 250 CS III G3 or Mantis 315 PS II G4. My very first racquet was the Dunlop Graphite Black Max from the early 80s and I still play with it. I believe John McEnroe had a Dunlop 2000 version during the 80s.
I heard the big difference between Federer's RF97 and the retail version is that Fed has his handle foam filled as well as some customizing with lead tape!
Where's the lead in Feds RF97? I'm currently trying to replicate the big 3's rackets off an 2013 APD, LM Radical MP, and a PS 97 v10. Funny thing about the PS is I bought an L3 (or so the seller said) and it really was L2, so one of the things I did to it was increase the size with one of those heat-shrink sleeves. I didn't know but MAN THEY ARE HEFTY. It added close to 20 g to the handle. So once I put on the leather grip and overgrip on top, it was almost right on spec (balance a little bit lighter) with the RF97. I added some protection tape on the bumper which adds like 2.5 g on the tip, and eventually it came out a little over spec (360g and 340 sw, which according to some forums is actually closer to his real spec). So if there is lead tape anywhere on the hoop I would sleep better if I could replicate it. By the way, I tried the LM Rad before customizing it and it did feel quite awesome. Not so stiff for me. It fealt really buttery actually. Great feeling anyway. Had lots of fun customizing it, specially adding the 0.1 inches which I did with folded lead tape inside the buttcap (and tungsten putty filling the free spaces to spec). I did not strung it yet because it came with Babolat Duralast and I felt it was a kind of relic of a string and wanted to play with it till I grew tired, then maybe put the nat+rough (or a really soft multi), but I don't think I would left one cross unstrung. It wouldn't obviously be the same. But Beckett, I'm sure Head won't leave the Djoker without his own personal frame. Now that Nadal's got his Aero Origin, I'm sure the Djoker will get a 27.1, 18x19, 95 sqin "Speed Djokovic" to spec (actual metallic tape embedded at 3&9 and everything), and the mold of the Ti Rad with the layup of the LM (a man can dream). If not before, at least when he announces his retirement.
Hi man, I'm using the 1.25mm slinko confidential string on my extreme tour but I break it after two training sessions. Could you recommend me whether to try the same string with greater thickness or another different string that has greater durability? thank you very much, I love your videos
Hey Beckett! I'm about a 3.5. Thinking of switching out from my Vcore 98 (305). Pure Drive, Ezone 100, or Clash? Or any other recommendations? I'm a recreational player and some USTA league matches. I just used the Pure Drive for Demo and I was playing way better than my V-core. I do really like the plushness of the V-core better though.
hi, if you can work at the Rogers cup next year, when Djokovic brings his racquets to be restrung, that's your chance. You just say you're testing the string job to make sure it works... same for stan wawrinka's racquet. in all seriousness, hope your elbow is doing better :)
only been playing for about 4 years now, but all time favorite would have to be the VCORE Pro 97H. Only gripe is the smaller head (i would kill for a 315g VCP 100). but i love the heft, love the control and sensitive touch on the ball, and so much more.
@@alberts5739 Yonex could only send me one demo so I chose the 97 and there’s other stuff I have to work on in the near future that will absorb my time
i got 4 x h22 16/19 and 2 x pt57a 16/19 , the pt57 is indeed better feel but provides no power at all. also h22 does feel a lot closer to modern racquet but still its a 95.
Favourite racquet hmmm there were so many but Yamaha made my first Graphite racket which compared to the Woodies was like an Auxetic today. The same leap in improvement caused quite the stir. Yamaha's Margaret Court racket trampolined something fierce but ONLY in a tiny sweetspot. It was a 95" if not mistaken. I left mine standing against a fence. My friend for over 20 years, sad day? You don't know the half of it. Unconsolable. Incredibly addictive until you hit off center. It didn't punish but made a very convincing argument you were doing something very wrong.
I would like to test some vintage OS options, mainly the ones Agassi used, but the modern 105+'s are typically designed for a completely different demographic than the one that I fall into. I'm not sure my opinion on those racquets would carry much weight.
I know this is not really related to the video, but I have been dying to ask you why you think of solinco confidential so highly. I have been using hyper-g for a while now and the complaints you've made towards it haven't really been too noticeable for me. I have loved hyper-g but now every tennis youtuber on the face of the planet is saying that they love confidential. Should I bother trying it? I am looking for control and spin in a string. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Confidential was developed by Solinco essentially to be a replacement for Hyper-G. Its the next evolution of the Hyper-G formula so it delivers on pretty much everything that Hyper-G delivers on but with better playability duration. IMO its a must try if you use Hyper-G.
hi @TennCom , I would like to ask you or someone who understands, to explain one thing to me, I have been playing tennis professionally and I have been training it for two years, let's say I have been playing recreationally, I play with Babolat Pure Drive 315 g, I have been reading and watching about rackets for a long time and I'm thinking of switching to Head, because I'm missing that kind of control in the exchanges, and now I'm really undecided between Gravity pro or Speed pro, so I'm interested in the opinion of which racket might be better suited? please can i get an answer
I would suggest the Gravity Pro or the Radical Pro instead. The Speed's have an inconsistency to their flex which I believe will generate needless errors at your level. For example, Coco uses the new Speed Pro mold, but she's got a bespoke PT layup instead of the retail layup to avoid these inconsistencies. Still, given that you are trying to make money from your tennis, I think there's an argument to choosing a racquet that provides as much free power and spin as possible. The Pure Aero 98 or the Radical MP + customizations to your spec would provide more control than your PD Tour, but still offer some free power so you can win a few extra point from out of position, or get a few more returns back in play.

which gen?
@@TennCom 1st gen.
2023 head Speed Pro with a lot of LED tape is incredible
Does Mantis still make racquets? I'll assume you can still get them in Europe and the UK at this time. They are very hard to come by in the United States. I am looking to purchase a Mantis 250 CS III G3 or Mantis 315 PS II G4. My very first racquet was the Dunlop Graphite Black Max from the early 80s and I still play with it. I believe John McEnroe had a Dunlop 2000 version during the 80s.
I heard the big difference between Federer's RF97 and the retail version is that Fed has his handle foam filled as well as some customizing with lead tape!
I think Fed's handle is a complete custom job done at P1 right?
@@TennCom Right, and Fed would try to pick the frames closest to his target SW so they would be easier to customize!
If not before, at least when he announces his retirement.
watch tennis spin video where he specs match fed racket, its at the top @@Maiqel
Try using the Head Youtek Speed Elite if you get your hands on one. It's 285g unstrung, and goes through the air amazingly (at least for me).
PS97v13 is a great racquet
I would love to try the Yonex Regna!!!!!!!
I agree I totally forgot about that racquet in my list, but I still think it ranks at number 6 for me
Hi man, I'm using the 1.25mm slinko confidential string on my extreme tour but I break it after two training sessions. Could you recommend me whether to try the same string with greater thickness or another different string that has greater durability? thank you very much, I love your videos
id try 1.30 and if that doesnt work hyper-g in 1.35
@@TennCom thxxx, i'll try
Hyper Hummer 5.2 !
Ash barty pro stock is my dream raket spec...gravity pro with 16x19....have you tested or seen one ???
only been playing for about 4 years now, but all time favorite would have to be the VCORE Pro 97H. Only gripe is the smaller head (i would kill for a 315g VCP 100). but i love the heft, love the control and sensitive touch on the ball, and so much more.
I can see them releasing a heavy Percept if the PSX sales are strong enough
@@TennCom i think i would sell my percept 100s for them
1. 2023 Gravity Pro
2. Boom Pro
3. Blade v8
4. Prestige Pro
5. Head Graphite Director
what do you think about yonex percept 100 300grams?
i haven't tried it yet and probably wont for at least a while
@@TennCom why? any specific reason?
@@alberts5739 Yonex could only send me one demo so I chose the 97 and there’s other stuff I have to work on in the near future that will absorb my time
@@TennCom i see, can't wait to see you review the percept
U need to collab with tennis spin guy. He’s got their rackets
i definitely want to but its a bit of a drive
i got 4 x h22 16/19 and 2 x pt57a 16/19 , the pt57 is indeed better feel but provides no power at all. also h22 does feel a lot closer to modern racquet but still its a 95.
do you think Andy should move on from his PT?
What string and tension do you string your Head LM Radical with? I'm trying to find a setup that works well. Also, do you add any weight to it?
TBH its been a while since I picked it up so i havent removed the clunky weight setups from my Djokovic video, but my preference is stock at 45-48lbs
@@TennCom Thanks for the reply! Gonna give that a try!
Good video. Your favorite racquets are included to 95 at 100 . Can you try and test racquets with 105 or 110 inches ?
I would like to test some vintage OS options, mainly the ones Agassi used, but the modern 105+'s are typically designed for a completely different demographic than the one that I fall into. I'm not sure my opinion on those racquets would carry much weight.
Id use a 600 head size 4x6 string pattern 15 g strung
Amazing video I’ve watched it 10 times! Thanks :):)
excellent thank you for your service
Head liquidmetal radical mp tour. Searching for something equal until today.
Second would be the last 90 sq in roger racket.
There is just nothing equal to that today. MAYBE a prestige or the blade might be but the LM was so darn good
I know this is not really related to the video, but I have been dying to ask you why you think of solinco confidential so highly.
@@TennCom Thanks for the quick response!
Aren't the cortex aeropro drive grommets compatible with the apdo?
even the 2013 grommets are compatible but they stopped making them :,(
how about the RegNa 98 by Yonex?
I almost got a 95D in good shape for like 100$ but I missed the final bid :(
ouch that would have hurt my heart
Nice, I needed this video
Try a Dunlop SX 300 Tour
No PA98 D:
It really doesn't get worse than the extreme paint jobs
facts i think switching to the PSX improved your level to 5.0
which ATP player would you say had the biggest impact on Yonex's popularity growth? Hewitt? Nalbandian? Stan the Man? or someone else?
Marcelo Rios.
i definitely think Stan the Man, followed by Nick K
Maybe u should new modern racket, wilson shift.. 😊
i have tried the shift and its my least favourite racquet of 2023
Wilson blade
Babolat pure drive is the best raquet of the history , FIN
I’d like to play tennis with badminton racket

Feel sorry for you

hi @TennCom , I would like to ask you or someone who understands, to explain one thing to me, I have been playing tennis professionally and I have been training it for two years, let's say I have been playing recreationally, I play with Babolat Pure Drive 315 g, I have been reading and watching about rackets for a long time and I'm thinking of switching to Head, because I'm missing that kind of control in the exchanges, and now I'm really undecided between Gravity pro or Speed pro, so I'm interested in the opinion of which racket might be better suited? please can i get an answer
@@TennCom wow, thank you very much, for such a comment, it really means a lot to me, thank you for such an effort to explain it to me correctly
Hey Beckett, loved the video. I could potentially get your hands on some H22s. If you're interested, let me know how to contact you.
