I ending up using a plastic spoon until I got a replacement part. It cost me $10.00 dollars an Advanced Auto Parts because it was a Saturday night and I didn't want to wait till Monday. Advanced Auto Parts was open on Sunday. Your TH-cam video saved me from having a dead battery.
Came out to a dead car this morning, this was exactly the problem, I found the broken bits of the old pad on the floorboard! Thanks so much for this, I was about to replace the whole switch

Thank you!! My neighbor informed me at 11 pm that my break lights were on. I went to my car, the plastic pieces were on the floor, just like you said. I took a plastic putty knife and stuck it there until I can find a zip tie or get the part.

Really are a life saver this just happened to me and I saw the plastic yesterday I think. As soon as you said that I was like yep. So I shoved the broken plastic back in there, hopefully get the part in the morning, was scared for a minute it was something big and my car would be dead in the morning. Thanks!

Happened to me during a pizza delivery. Found the broken pieces in the same spot you showed. Best i could do, was throw a sock in between the two parts, and worked the rest of the night lol. (I keep spare socks in the car in case it rains during my shift)
I don't suppose you'll reply anytime soon but I had a question. I know how to replace the brake light stopper but is there any reason why the lights used to stay on constantly but now they're never on? Does that mean the brake switch burned out? I ask because I had this same issue about 3 months ago, not gonna lie I let it go on for that entire time just disconnecting the battery when I parked so it wouldn't die but now the brake lights almost never come on. Battery still dies if I leave it connected though so I'm thinking maybe the switch died? I heard the fuse from someone else but if that blew out it would prevent power to the lights not let it flow freely so I'm really lost here.
@tubejim101 01 LX. More detailed below if interested. I checked the fuse, and it looks unbroken, but I replaced it anyway. I heard from a buddy that the horn & brake lights share that same 15A fuse, and my horn stopped working years ago, I could never figure out why and now the brake lights are acting up so I'm at a loss with this thing. I replaced the relay for the horn but it's still inop so I've given up on that, but I'm wondering what the heck is going on with the lights now. It's really confusing, like initially when the stopper first broke they were on 247. Now they're almost never on. Occasionally the brake lights will pop on but it's very rare which is why I'm thinking the switch itself maybe fried from being constantly on. Which I think could also explain why it killed the battery, if the switch went bad so it didn't turn on the lights but it was constantly drawing power? Either that or the bulbs simply burned out. I dunno

1/4 20 hex head bolt and nut works just fine and will not fall apart

@@TheJacyn313 If you have a 3rd, or some center brake lights, that may be the issue. Might have corrosion in the sockets too.
@tubejim101 it does have the mandated center brake light. I don't know what to check but I appreciate the fast response.
