      I reload as well. Really enjoy being able build my own shell to the specs I prefer, speed, load etc. I only reload Nitro STS and Gun Club hulls. I only wish the larger shoot would start allowing reloads in all events instead of just sub gauge.

    the best choice which I prefer is tt two blue cases fiotchi series, then if price is nice black ones or f3 ones, if there is nothing to get at local store then rio, eley, maybe winchester... there is almost no difference between tt two shell and fiotchi gold one ;) for me. only money...

    It's an absolute wash at 45 yards. This reflects my experience in the real world, which means the cheaper shells are often the better buy- Larger less dense pattern early, similar if not identical pattern later.
    I love a dirt cheap 7/8ths 1300fps load and often hit clays at 80+ yards with them.

    • @claylabusa
      @claylabusa  ปีที่แล้ว

      You make an excellent point. A lot of the less expensive shells (like the Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics in this video) perform really well. Where the competition shells really start to shine is at longer ranges and in situations where every single target matters a great deal. For me, it comes down to the stakes...if I'm going to a local shoot or smaller event, I would use Shooting Dynamics without a second thought. At the US Open or another big event, I prefer the confidence of using the Little Rhinos.

    • @grinchyface
      @grinchyface ปีที่แล้ว

      @@claylabusa I do really like the Little Rhino, i think Fiocchi makes some of the only viable and highly consistent 28 gauge shells (Winchester AA being the other).
      I may not be a good enough clay shooter where I've felt any single miss has ever been due to the ammo now, perhaps some day that will come.
      Load/brand/shot size/velocity paranoia in this sport is as ubiquitous as choke paranoia.
      There was a time not that long ago, fewer than 12 months where I believed a pattern at 45 yards was too sparse to break clays reliably.
      Now I deliberately practice 80-100 yard shots every single session, and the clays break reliably no matter the shell.
      I try to get shooters to do deliberate practice at those ranges, because the confidence goes a long way at the registered shoots when you know your IC choke and your commodity Fiocchi was just slamming clays at 80 and you probably don't need to worry about anything but your eyes and your hands

      Thanks! It’s funny, Johnny and I were talking about that same thing a little while back. No, we don’t see many finer wads over here…pretty much all plastic. Leaves a mess behind, but they seem to help keep the patterns nice and clean. Would love to try out fiber sometime, though

    Fiocchi’s leave a nasty plastic buildup in my choke tubes. I will shoot them if I can’t get anything else but none of the STS , AA’s , or Clever’s leave plastic in my chokes. Looking forward to seeing more videos. !!!

    • @claylabusa
      @claylabusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s interesting…I’ve had the opposite experience with Fiocchi’s, at least with shooting dynamics and little Rinos. I find I need fewer patches to clean the gun. That said, I have fixed chokes these days and that makes a huge difference. Also, I often wonder if temperature and humidity make a big difference in how dirty the gun gets. May be worth looking at in the future

  • @basshnter1997

    Maybe my thinking is wrong here.
    As someone still working on learning
    different presentations.
    I shoot the same choke (ic) and same cartridge at everything to eliminate as many variables as possible.

    • @claylabusa
      @claylabusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing wrong with that approach! You’ll find a lot of people who use same choke consistently throughout a shoot. I personally moved to a gun with fixed chokes to take that out is the equation. I also think that, if you can find shells that you like, no need to switch. Agree with consistency being your friend.

    Hopefully this isn't taken terribly. This kind of feels like a shill for fiocci more than the science of shells. I would have liked to see more in depth differences of wads, brands, how speed effects pattern, perhaps real effects of hardness etc. I say this because this is my favorite clays channel so far, and I've seen a lot of channels in different industries end up turning to basically sponsored advertising channels. I hope you guys understand where I'm coming from, and another cool video guys. 👍🏻

    • @claylabusa
      @claylabusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Can definitely see where you’re coming from. We actually sought out Fiocchi for this video based on their wide assortment of shells (in particular, we wanted to see how spreaders work). It gets really tricky when you start comparing different manufacturers directly, as we are using a really small sample size. Definitely look for an upcoming video on how shot speed affects patterning, and there’s an excellent chance we’ll showcase a different manufacturer in that one (to gradually showcase all of them, piece by piece). Appreciate the input!

    • @Krysis219
      @Krysis219 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@claylabusa I also wonder things like how consistent different brands speeds are and how close to the posted speeds they are. My suspicion is that there's a little something to the speed and just of the rest is mental. I think with moderns shells they're all going to pattern relatively well even between premium and practice shells. I think the rest is confidence and the mental part of the game. With a premium shell in the pipe, if your confidence is higher it's that little bit of advantage that you're going to break it. Conversely, if you're thinking eh... "This is junk practice ammo, it's probably not going to pattern well, the powder drop might be light and I'm used to faster shells" etc... It's that right doubt that might set in and create enough doubt to drop a bird or two. Just my two cents worth, and adjusting for inflation that's not worth much. Take care guys. I live watching your videos!
