Hi! I decided this time to join your CAL this year😁. Two more squares to go for this month. I am really enjoying the different granny squares. Look forward to next month's granny (plus I can stash bust some yarn😊) thank you!❤
Yay! I have 4 more to go for February Granny CAL. I can't wait to see this at the end of the year with all these squares!😊❤ I am randomly pulling scrap balls of yarn for each granny so some might end up the same but in a different month 😊
I knew that little tutorial on the standing double crochet stitch was for this months square! 😁 I really like the hourglass look of this square. It also looks a little like petals so I'm going to make the first row in yellow and then do Vees in one color and Doubles in another color or maybe go crazy and do each side in different colors.
Oh my this square is beautiful. However, it seems so much more complicated than January's square. I hope I can do it. I'll definitely need to watch the tutorial several times. Thank you for this project. I'm so excited!!!
Hi! You can totally do it 💗 If you have never tried the solid double crochet granny or the V-st granny (links in the description box) you might like to sample those ones first to get the idea 😊
Hi JAYDA, I tried a ton of different stitch markers. My favorite are the larger of the plastic safety pin style for my corners. I've found I don't have to move them every single row because they are always in my line of site. I am, when I'm feeling better going to dabble with making some stitch markers with glass beads & silver lobster clasps.
I can't squeeze like safety pins, clips like those. Etc. but the big plastic safety pins are about the easiest and least painful for me. I know awhile ago, people were looking for suggestions. Only problem with these is they are way more expensive than the little one or the circles.
May I ask how you are planning how you are deciding how much yarn to have to be sure you have enough for the entire project? I plan to use the same number of colors that you are using. Thanks. I love granny squares!! ❤
It was explained in the mid January tutorial she did, told all youll need to complete this blanket… hope that helps. It may be included at the bottom of this tutorial…,
I have to wonder what the block would look like if, made larger, the pattern is swapped at one point, so that the DCs and Vs are alternated (and maybe help to stabilize the open stitch). I might have to fiddle with some scrap yarn... 🤔 (Edit: I got to the end of the video and you read my mind. XD)
Hi, I’m putting off creating this months square waiting to learn about joining. It seems as though if there is a join as you go method, we would need to be doing it by the second square?
Hi! The solid double crochet pushes the square out to make it a little wide. The V-st can be compressed because of it's ch-1 in the middle, but the square overall will act square once it's attached into a project OR blocked. The stitch count is the important thing. When you always crochet in the same direction, a "lean" appears over time, but if you change directions each row (by flipping the square and working in the opposite direction) you won't get a lean.
Hi Jayda, how many granny squares do you need in a row, vertically or horizontally, because two isn't going to be enough to make a blanket - if you know what I mean! Please forgive my poor explanation....Thank you, Angela
Hi Angela, it depends on how big you want to make your blanket. We explained this in the January video (link in description) so you can watch that to see how we explain it for THIS project, but if you are just making these squares for another blanket, then it depends again on how big you want your blanket and how big you make your squares. We have a video on how to figure that out here: th-cam.com/video/_CpOr3HHUEI/w-d-xo.html
Hi Diane, if you're starting this square with the intention to make it large, start turning at the end of each row right from the beginning, that way there's consistency throughout the square 😊
Looking at his month's square I realize that I cinched up the center of last month's square really tight, but I will open them a little. I want them all to match. I realize that I will not come apart since we started with a chain 5 instead of a magic ring or cinch circle.
I’m doing 9 rows each square. First time doing a granny square blanket. How do I keep the stiches the same count when each month the squares are different ???
Hi Sue, if you make all your squares 9 rows each, then each row will always have the same number of stitches. For example row 6 of January and row 6 of February's squares were the same stitch count. If you follow the pattern and increase up to 9 rows, you should see the same math pattern in Row 9 of every design: each side will be 35 sts and the entire row will be 140 plus 4 ch-2 corners.
Hi! You might find it helpful to try a small (3 row) sampler of a V-Stitch Granny Square: th-cam.com/video/c8K1Pbv80uQ/w-d-xo.html and a similar sized sampler of a solid double crochet granny square: th-cam.com/video/dJ7bGt6-9jg/w-d-xo.html then just tell yourself that you're simply alternating between the 2 concepts as you work around the square 😊
Hi! Each row must have the same number of stitches per side, whether they are DCs or CHs. In Row 1, you have 2 V-sts (dc, ch 1, dc) and 6 dc (3 per side).
This month the video was hard to understand. I'm not trying to be rude. It's just that there was too much rambling talking, I think it confused people. I'm an experienced crocheter, and I had to keep re watching.
Hi! I'm not sure I can talk slower, but I do repeat each instruction many times 😊 You can also slow down your video player but clicking on the video settings icon and selecting "video speed". It will slow down everything... and I'll sound hilarious too 😂
@@JaydaInStitches I do, I just stop it and rewind, I just get overwhelmed a little, it's not that the instructions are to fast it's when you're saying what to do with out seeing it, if that makes sense. I been crocheting for over 35 years and it's always fun to learn a new granny square.
I’m curious to see how all of the various squares will look together
Yeah. Got my hook, got my yarn, SO ready to start!😊
Woohoo!
Your sweater is adorable! I love the bunny with the eyeglasses!

I've done many of these with the shell granny. And depending on the way you put them together you can get awesome patterns.
Yes! That one is soooo cool too!

Thank you Janet! yes, it's knit... and store bought (gasp!)😂

Hi Debbie! Happy Weekend!
Hello Jayda
Hi Susan!
I really like this square! When do we start attaching the squares?
Hi! We're going to discuss joining soon 😊

I've found I don't have to move them every single row because they are always in my line of site. Whenever I tried I became fail you r so talented
Hi! Practice little samplers, they help a lot 😊
Woo hoo I’m awake 😂 ❤
Hi Lorraine!
I have been using a hdc fr my join. Then start next row in center of corner. It has kept blocks squared, without blocking them. Just a thought.
Hi Rhonda, thank you for sharing!
Love you girl
Hi Tracy! 😊
Love this year's blanket! What brand/ colors are the denim and gold colored square? I love them😍
Hi Lisa! The denim is Mary Maxim Starlette Tweed in Mariner and the gold is Bernat Super Value (I'm not sure it has a name but it's the gold colour).
It may be included at the bottom of this tutorial…,
Hi! It depends on how many squares you want to make, all explained in the January video (link in description). Each 6 row square uses roughly 45 y.
XD)
I knew someone would be tempted to play with that idea! 😂
🙏🏼💕🌷
Hi, I’m putting off creating this months square waiting to learn about joining. It seems as though if there is a join as you go method, we would need to be doing it by the second square?
Hi Louann, we're going to discuss joining soon - I have an "official" way, but joining is very open to personal choice this year 💗
How about if you change were the V stitch goes and do a full side on the V side would it tend to go more to the right or left???
Did you make the sweater you have on in this video? If so, please show us how to make it! Thanks
Thank you! It's knit (and store bought 😁)

Does it have to be all arcylic can it be cotton yarn ?
Certainly!
In this pattern if I were to keep going and make it bigger when would you turn your work so it doesn't become wonky???😊
Hi Diane, if you're starting this square with the intention to make it large, start turning at the end of each row right from the beginning, that way there's consistency throughout the square 😊
Did you make your jumper? I love it
Thank you! No, it's a store-bought knit (gasp!)
In lieu of a pattern. Thanks!
Thank you SO MUCH Renee! We really appreciate your support of our show 💗💗💗
Looking at his month's square I realize that I cinched up the center of last month's square really tight, but I will open them a little. I want them all to match. I realize that I will not come apart since we started with a chain 5 instead of a magic ring or cinch circle.
Yes! The open centre gives the stitches a chance "to breathe", as it were, everything moves a little easier 😊
Well, I’m doing something wrong then . Will have to go back and figure it out
I'm still so lost.😢😂
Hi! I weird but i can only get it right if i tie off after every round.
That's ok too! Whatever works!
I think the pattern is great, but I’m a little confused - in the first row, why does one side have only 2dc and the rest have 3?
Hi! Each row must have the same number of stitches per side, whether they are DCs or CHs. In Row 1, you have 2 V-sts (dc, ch 1, dc) and 6 dc (3 per side).
Where January one ? Not seeing it
