I was stupid in 2012. I got my first brand new car since I passed my test in 1986 but looking back, for the price I paid I could have got a one year old ST. I wish I had thought of it at the time instead of getting a crap VW Polo TDI.
One of the major rust areas that you missed is the rear hatch where it rubs against the rubber blocks. This was originally fitted with a vinyl rectangle and higher mileage cars have rubbed through and starting to rust. In regards to the rattling spoiler there is also to push fit metal clips that work there way loose. These can normally be pushed in by hand by a couple of mm. They have been known to scratch the inside of the rear lights when they are really loose.
Very informative video. Well put together and professional. Anyone buying a car you're reviewing is getting a tonne of relevant important Info. Love and st and an rs. I've currently got an f10 530d stage 1 remap running at just over 300bhp., I'm always torn between the 5 series amazing fuel economy / power and the outright fun of a fast ford.
used to own the mk2 st..regarding the boost solenoid issue i took the fuse for the solenoid out for an hr and when i put it back in it solved the boost problem
@@marc3457i think it was 32 or 33 cant remember the exact one but def 3* its the fuse box in the engine bay st had another inside the car so im assuming the rs will be same
I had a mk2 white one with lux packs one and two, so I had the leather and satnav etc….. at the time I loved and hated owning my car, it was the best car by miles that I’ve owned but I lost so much sleep over the car cus as you will know they were meant to be really easy to pinch ffs !!!! I had extra immobiliser and ecu moved and a metal plate put over it plus I always had a steering lock fitted and I had cctv installed all around my property, but I still lost sleep cus if I got woken up by anything I would think someone was trying to steal my car, I really do miss my car though!!!!! I had Collins map plenum changed plus intercooler and all the other bits that need to be in place for good reliable power…I think it was running around the 450 bhp mark!!! As I say it was the best car I have ever owned and I’ve had some pretty powerful motors over the years !!!
Thanks for commenting buddy! Yes I was the exact same. My ultimate green one was my pride and joy! Any noise in the night and I was out there checking it hadn't gone. I had the Collins 370 map and it was awesome too - really progressive and properly quick too. The good times - maybe one day again, although probably not green as the prices have sky rocketed!
My range rover sport tdv8 dash was playing up,,a place in Essex fixed it,, it's a Ford thing as they owned land rover in 09 ,, that is a nice RS sounds great 👍☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
I have a mk2 focus rs, these cars are awsome ( obviously) without a bout one of the best hot hatches made, buy one of these before you can’t, …again sorry miltek is the exhaust to have get shot of that thunderrat 😂 great video tho bro
I'm going to import one as soon as the 20-year mark hits for us in the US. My question is... do they make them in left hand drive as well? I daily a 2017 fbo e30 ST now. I've wanted one these ever since I've owned my mk3.5
one issue that is not in the video here is the dreaded P0113 fault code issues. many of these eat MAP or IAT sensors like candy. there are loads of posts about this and people keep changing the MAP (not MAF) sensors to counter the issue. it is more likely tho to be an issue with the electrical grounding spots that are weak or corroded and they make the voltages all wrong for all the sensors connected to the same circuit as the MAP sensor. this usually makes the car run really rich and it won't pass emissions testing. if the car has a history of regularly failing the motor vehicle inspection, this is most likely the cause. also, a car that has or had this issue is at a high probability of needing a CAT replacement because of all the excess fuel it has been soaked in during the years.
you forgot to mention the Oil Seal on the pistons. This mk2 RS uses the "old" style Oil seals, which tend to clug up with sod, meaning it starting eating your engine oil like mad! If your car(like mine did) takes like 1,5 liter of oil with hard driving over 2 weeks, that's a common/uncommon issue these volvo engines suffer from!
I have an St500 Red recaros heated Gt40 stripes. Stage 2 so nearly same. A RS no way. Cost me 3k i have spent a bit keeping it legal and above board. Same thing happened to St170 to my Puma rust
@@lewisrose7673 been known problems with liners cracking and head and block distortion even on none modded engines seen a few where a big end has been knocked out trouble is people drive these hard and often tune way beyond they were meant to be and then reliability is gone
Such a shame there are no five cylinders about except the Audi RS3 I think now. Emissions and the like have consigned so many great engines to the motoring graveyard. You had the Fords with this five cylinder Volvo engine, the Golf R32 and VR6, Audi TT V6 etc. Now all we get is tuned 2 litre four pots in everything with fake sound pumped into the cabin. Absolute shit.
Best Focus Model ever made.. What followed wasn't up to scratch and was to gimmicky and unreliable. (As you already know I presume.) It's Ironic that Fords best cars don't have Ford Engines in them though... EG : Cosworths & T5's.
Only time to have bought one was when they were still being produced. Prices are stupid now for low mileage examples. People rich enough to buy one as an investment and store it are still being ripped off paying twice the original price. Once the value of anything gets far too high, the profit has already been made by someone else. It’s like buying a 500k house that was 10k in the 1970s. It wont go up another 490k, you are simply too late. It’s already been done. Same goes for a lot of classic cars.
As a 'neutral' looking in, I have to say that both vehicles sound glorious stock even. I would however always give the RS3 the nod soundwise. Just. It's 'warble' is just smoother and more urgent. Own either car though and you are truly blessed.
ALSO, the boost and all those gauges data are being CALCULATED by the ECU, not real stuff coming from the engine. Nothing to complain about the car, have one, its bulletproof. the only thing that broke down was the alternator, but thats it.
The mk2 just has a way of getting in your heart
Awesome car. Nothing else like them on the road. Pure theater to drive with that wide stance and the signing 5 pot. 🎶 🎶
Selling my Mk2 ST was one of the saddest days of my life as a Petrolhead. Promise myself I will get the full fat RS one day as a weekend car :)

Iv had all the usual problems with my 2010 rs but not the alternator yet but apart from that it's been great
Had that issue, wasnt that expensive to fix to be fair... happened to me at almost 200k kms

Still waiting on a video for a Golf R32 mk5.

Great video. Very helpful. Where have you got your knowledge and experience from? You know so much… 😄👌🏻
Does that mean 2010 ST models have the updated liners???

Hi how do you fix the head light washer jets
Always like the focus rs mk2 but now the prices have shot up and seen lots of issues with the engines I wouldn't buy one
What engine issues ?

I put 80,000 km on one of these in Blue back 2009-2013
YES , it sound better than audi line
Love mine. Got a few videos to watch on my channel.
Nice her.
Sorry, they don’t sound better than the Audi 5 pot. The Focus sounds superb but not as superb as the RS3.

Nah focus better and better looking and better handling
I disagree, I think the volvo sounds more natural roar, and the audi sounds more fake over done...
volvo c30 lol
BOY, cant understand nothing that the lady says
