most people assume if you remove the sticker it voids the consoles warranty that they normally pay 80-200$ for when they buy it for 1-3 years of warranty

OG Xbox was a huge machine with a quality build, and MS has NEVER figured out how to build one like that since. You know, since the slim PS2/slim PS3/slim looking PS4 is what everyone loves, and MS cannot figure out how to make a small machine and keep it cooled with the PSU inside it. I am sure this will bring back the whole frightening 54% defect rate that the OG 360s had. If not, I will be AMAZED that MS did something right finally.
The surface team helped make this though. And they've made heavy duty laptops that are slim as fuck. With M$ being on the backfoot, I doubt they'd even chance another RRoD issue.

i don't really care one way or another about xbone, i jumped aboard the PC boat after 360, but i actually liked the idea of the power brick. mine started going bad, but instead of having to send the system back or buy a whole new system, i just went to the pawn shop and bought another power brick for like $10-15. i also like the idea of a component that creates heat being outside the case.

That power brick actually saved me. I was on a trip to the philippines when my xbox suddenly stopped working because the voltage of electricity there was very high (220v). I was able to bring the brick to an electronics shop there where it was fixed within 10mins!
The powerbrick is not dead weight, It can be useful for blocking power surges that can completely fry the powersource, So when your console dies after a thunderstorm just remember, It was cause there was no power brick to regulate power and prevent surges.
The only reason I prefer external power supplies on modern consoles is that they are much more complex like PC power supplies and they have short lifespans. Simple unregulated ac adapters of old are pretty bulletproof, the ac adapter on my original Atari is approaching 40 years old. My favorite design for a power supply on any system was on the Nintendo 64. A separate component but still integrated into the overall design. It clipped into the back of the console but was still easy to replace. The only thing I didn't like about the Xbox power supplies is how they hang loose, if it clipped onto the side of the system somehow it would be great. An internal power supply does make it easy to set on a shelf but down the road when the power supply dies it will be more hassle to replace.

Having the power brick makes ton of sense. It allows a lot of the excess heat that it produces not to be located in the console itself rather than heating the internal components. you fail to say.
The reason the brick is internal is because they went with 14/16nm. The old 28nm tech wouldn't allow a console of this size with MS lack of engineering skills. PS4 is ever so slightly larger overall, and it has 28nm tech, because PS has fantastic engineering. The black on the bottom of the One S was definitely a marketing design choice to make the console look smaller, and it does, which just happens to look alright with the design as a whole. If PS decides to make a slim with 14/16nm tech, expect PS4 to shrink by 25-40%.
The only good thing about an external power supply is that the console itself doesn't require as much cooling. But I don't think this was ever used in any substantial way (e.g. a significant boost to the CPU/GPU clockrate)

Joe Pwn Yo chill, I'm an Xbox fan. Yes I do play on PC, but I'm also a real gamer, so I'm completely multi-platform. I never said that all consoles are pointless, I said that so far this gen is. Not enough games have come out to completely need a new console. XBOX ONE games are also going to come out on PC, so only the exclusives that have come out in the past 3/4 years are going to matter. I never said that consoles suck, nor did I bring PC's into this, so stop judging.

+Garlic Bread Has No End There games that are a bit tricky to get to run, but the VAST majority of them don't, they work fine out of the gate. Plus, you can get a refund. That is another bogeyman of PC gaming. Plus, you people know you can hook up a PC to your TV and play with a controller right? Fun fact, if you were to build a PC with the exact same pieces of both main consoles, the Xbox would cost $230 and PS4 $260. You console peasants are getting ripped off lol. Also Consoles are locked on medium graphical settings on all/most games. Barely hitting 30+ fps.

That power brick actually saved me. I was on a trip to the philippines when my xbox suddenly stopped working because the voltage of electricity there was very high (220v). I was able to bring the brick to an electronics shop there where it was fixed within 10mins!

That cucumber section made me lose all of the sanity I had left.
The powerbrick is not dead weight, It can be useful for blocking power surges that can completely fry the powersource, So when your console dies after a thunderstorm just remember, It was cause there was no power brick to regulate power and prevent surges.

The only reason I prefer external power supplies on modern consoles is that they are much more complex like PC power supplies and they have short lifespans. Simple unregulated ac adapters of old are pretty bulletproof, the ac adapter on my original Atari is approaching 40 years old. My favorite design for a power supply on any system was on the Nintendo 64. A separate component but still integrated into the overall design. It clipped into the back of the console but was still easy to replace. The only thing I didn't like about the Xbox power supplies is how they hang loose, if it clipped onto the side of the system somehow it would be great. An internal power supply does make it easy to set on a shelf but down the road when the power supply dies it will be more hassle to replace.

The controller audio adapter is better than the built in aux because you can control the volume with plus minus buttons.

Having the power brick makes ton of sense. It allows a lot of the excess heat that it produces not to be located in the console itself rather than heating the internal components. you fail to say.
The reason the brick is internal is because they went with 14/16nm. The old 28nm tech wouldn't allow a console of this size with MS lack of engineering skills. PS4 is ever so slightly larger overall, and it has 28nm tech, because PS has fantastic engineering. The black on the bottom of the One S was definitely a marketing design choice to make the console look smaller, and it does, which just happens to look alright with the design as a whole. If PS decides to make a slim with 14/16nm tech, expect PS4 to shrink by 25-40%.

The only good thing about an external power supply is that the console itself doesn't require as much cooling. But I don't think this was ever used in any substantial way (e.g. a significant boost to the CPU/GPU clockrate)
