Over in UK, we love music. Nothing to do with who, where they are from, if we love your music, it would be played. I grew up between Nigeria and UK, mainly Nigeria but full music influence from UK where I was born. We listen to everything here and both black and white folks enjoy raggae. Bob Marley, UB40, Third World are my introduction and these songs would have been in the charts at the time. We will dance to Kool and the gang, disco and if UB40 comes on still dance. UK chart is much more eclectic. I love music from opera, classical, techno, garage, hip hop, drum and bass, heavy metal, rap (90s not the new ones), etc. Have you reacted to Queen yet?
Thanks for explaining how things are here in the UK. Like most people growing up here we listened to whatever was in the charts, so a complete mixed bag of music, I'm grateful of that cos I have a wider knowledge of the variety of music than being pigeon holed into certain categories. For me it was listening to my parents music from the 50's onwards, rock, pop, blues, motown, reggae, soul etc. Forgot disco lol
When they formed the band they were all unemployed and receiving state benefits. The payments they received were recorded on a card called a UB40 hence the name. Great band
Remember this recording invading the airways in the UK, absolutely fabulous version, brings new depths to this ordinary song, making it so special!!👍♥️
UB40 was the number on the unemployment card during 80s when unemployment exploded in the UK! They came out with”I’m the one in ten” went from strength to strength, my favourite Red,Red Wine. ( spending time unemployed & 🍷)
You're right (I think so), UB40 brings reggae to the charts in the eighties and nineties and to Europe in a "popy" way. And thanks to bands like them people gets to Marley & the Wailers, Lee Scratch Perry, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, etc just like Massive Attack showed us the LEGEND Horace Andy. Music spreads culture and tears down frontiers.
I was born an bred with these boys best reggae group to come out of the uk ever don’t think really there’s been anyone else since. Mind you I’m 53 and what do I know. Lol.
The ethnic blend of the group is more than just one token black guy. They were a group of unemployed friends who whilst unemployed decided to start a group. Most had to learn their instruments from scratch and I believe self taught. Their earlier music was a little darker and less poppy. I first heard them do 1 in 10 which is the number unemployed at that time in the 80s under Margaret thatcher. As previously said Their name was the application form for unemployment benefit. Great sound. Love them.
Yeah a great british band from England ub40 it's also the soundtrack to the sharon stone film astro with the dreads 😢died a year ago they have had some fantastic fantastic tunes you need to check em out I'm british myself and proud of the music we produce
@@RadJarrettTheIntrovert Elvis' Cant Help Falling In Love was one of the greatest love songs of all time (catch the movie version). If you prefer a beat or lots of soul... lots of great Elvis tunes. Jailhouse Rock (from the movie) 1956 - stellar dance moves for back then and If I Can Dream (MLK tribute ) after MLK got shot was stunning. -- Elvis in white suit version... damn.
It was your signing on card.. in the 80's unemployment was terrible in the UK there where whole areas where no one had a job, these must have met while signing on for their dole money
Please react to Tyler by UB40 (and maybe look up the history before hand) Beautiful song. Hey, im from the UK, im a massive fan of UB40 Check out UB40 and Pato Banton - Baby Come Back released in 1994, and it was at number one for 4 weeks in the UK So please check it out
UK's Leading Reggae Band Of All Time..And There's More Than One Jamaican?.. Earlier Songs Were More Reggae Less Pop Influenced..Try 'One In Ten'..A Song Based On Youth Employment Figures During Late 70s Early 80s..One In Ten Teenagers Were Unemployed In The UK Around That Time..Great Song🇬🇧
You should revisit UB40. Their best songs aren’t that well known and no one ever reacts to them. Bring me your Cup and Promises and Lies from the same album are just a couple of fantastic songs. That whole album is amazing.
I'm a fan of reggae so I can see questioning the genre. The beat (timing) here is unique to reggae music. There first big song was to cover Red, Red Wine which is more recognizable as a reggae song. Using reggae "beats" to "pump up" slower rhythm, check out Killing Me Softly by the Fugees and Lauren Hill. This one uses reggae and rap to revamp an R&B favorite.
Takes me back to a better time. A lot of the more recent fans of UB40 don't realise what the name of the band means. The meaning of UB40 is " You have to have a card when you're out of work to enter into the Jobcentre looking for work and that card is called a UB40!!!✌️🤫 🙏 " JUST ANOTHER PIECE OF USELESS INFORMATION ",👍
Love this version, it's so "John Hughes" movies vibe!😃 It is SUCH a great version! Since we have touched on nostalgia lol, I'd love you to react to Don't Change by INXS! My friend tagged me in it today & I thought you'd probably love it! Great reaction& taste! Seems you should be a singer with a voice like yours!😉
UB40 has always been a class act. 100% professional. Favorite band in high school and beyond
I need to check out more songs!
@@RadJarrettTheIntrovert If you haven’t already..
King, The earth dies screaming.
I've always loved them. It's a real shame about their fallout 😢 Ali Campbell is UB40 though to be fair.

This was around '93 and it's on the soundtrack to the movie "Sliver" with Sharon Stone and Stephen Baldwin
I think it was 1978, if my memory serves....was 15 when it came out. It was a HUGE hit in England. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
no, this version by UB40 was from the 90s. I think you were talking about Elvis's version.
It came out in 1961 by Elvis on the Blue Hawaii album. UB40's version came out in 1993.
Their first album is their best. It’s very political and more authentically traditional reggae.
I just quite simply love UB40, just the way it is. Why don't you look at Many rivers too cross. Think you'll enjoy their version. x
My first dance song at my wedding back in 96
