that is all key for offshore passages and trans-ocean travels! I hope they stay in the America's for a while. I've seen some good sailing up to Mazatlan and beyond!
The short of it is that you could do a longer feature video about the subject. For example, as you mention VHF, presuming it has limited range, what do you switch to when you are out of reach of coastal rescue services? International rescue obligations to sailors? AIS? Have you already considered something like StarLink? In short, do a long. When you have a recess from maintenance and beautiful environments ;)
They may have some basic satnav. They likely have Starlink, yet i forget - so many sailing channels have this now and it can sort of be used on boats, though I think it gets very expensive if the boat is traveling over 5knots (or maybe even traveling at all, off shore). The VHF may have some _SSB_ or as I like to say ESS-ESS-BEE! There was a feature on it, that I did not recognize. Also they can buddy boat, depending and friendly and resource ful boat may be able to assist, depending. The EPIRB can be money well spent, hopefully they will never need the EPIRB or the life raft. They likely have or should have a _ditch bag_ or a _grab bag_ if they are forced to abandon ship. It can also be possible that they may need to abandon or one or more (crew) would need to abandon, while the captain sails on! This actually happened some what recently with a family and their boat was de-masted (iirc - in the pacific) and the boat was "fine" sort of, though in the middle of nowhere, it can be a tough choice to stick with the boat or ditch the home and the memories. Even fully inspected, retrofitted (or re-fitted if you like) metal, blue water sailing vessels have been de-masted in the middle of the ocean. What did that couple do? They rigged up some improvised sails and continued on, because the "boat" or hull was OK and they have enough resources to make it to their intended destination (iirc) and it just took them a lot longer and they had a very scary night with the mast and sales in the rough seas! A well prepared boat and an seasoned crew can be life savers!
@@drx1xym154 - thank you, all right, it's my family's saying that "a boat's seaworthiness can never exceed that of its crew's". And, you wrote the script for the video I suggested them to make. Should be easy now on their side. ;)
@@drx1xym154Ideally, whatever you would have in a grab bag should already be in the life raft. I assume "24 hour life raft" means it contains supplies for 24 hours and emergency communication equipment to ensure you are rescued within 24 hours. The issue with a partial evacuation is that they only have one life raft, so whoever stays behind is left without a way to evacuate. Unless you have multiple life rafts, everyone needs to evacuate at once.
While mounting my EPIRB, I received a good tip from another pro captain... he said mount it OUTSIDE, that way is it has to automatically deploy it will be able to reach the surface to contact the satellites. Makes sense.
and for scuba you only have to swim, in place for like 10 minutes and in salt water than is not generally difficult -if one is uninjured and in OK shape. Even in fresh water that is not all that difficult - though EPIRBS and life-rafts can be key in tricky situations - hopefully never needed. Some people have been known to swim for days. One girl was picked up in the Caribbean, after swimming for at least a day or two. She was actually swimming and breathing in her sleep - somehow, likely due to lack of choices and who knows now long she may have lasted or if she could have taught these skills to dolphins! Dolphins put half their brain to sleep, so they can "sleep swim" or something - so maybe the dolphins taught her! ... :o
The best. Never skimp on key gear! Says the ocean divers and the sky divers! Penny wise, pound foolish! And for some of that gear - it is better to never *need* it!
….And the two most important things, a crew that are aware, cautious and vigilant. Not much of a fan of the “short” format tbh, but this one has a point to get across so fair play to you. Take care and keep on loving the life, it’s a beautiful world out there. Cheers! R. 😎👍🍻

You are better equipped than probably 90% of sail boats out there. Respect.

Hello! Please do a longer video on this subject. Thanks
Wow, impressive safety procedures and equipment. Especially those life vests. Interesting.

Longer video on safety and your kit strategies and
back up plans might make good viewing
I would like to know about their medical kit.
Glad you got the goods to stay safe! Bon chance et journée!😊
so this EPIRBS is manual? If so, I hope you get a better one. The one the goes on automatic when things go south
If it gets submerged, it also goes off
@@TeuluTribe I hope you don't get to need it anyway. Good luck and safe sailing.
Those are some sweet life vests

How often do you take your life raft and eprb for revision and how does that work when you are in different countries?
Good morning you young scamps :-) :-)
I wish shorts didnt exist... I get so excited to see a teulu notification just for it to be a short... so sad. Love you guys tho!
Where's your grab bag?
In a locker
Whats the price tag on all of those items? I guess I could do my own research. I'm just being lazy.
♥️♥️🥰🥰
No AIS..??
Yes we have AIS
