Poor Peter Cushing had only just lost his wife when filming this and his sorrow pervades and informs his brilliant performance here.

His performance is heartbreaking but no less brilliant. Hands down one of the most underrated actors of all time

It sickens me that there are actually people like this who do shit like this to other people! He got his just desserts!

One of the saddest stories in horror anthology.

I almost wish Peter Cushing was still alive and had a Twitter account so I could ask him if he was okay. The emotion from that performance was incredible. Truly broke my heart. Rest in peace Mr. Cushing, you were quite the actor and I hope you’re with Christopher Lee right now in heaven.

Outstanding Cushing performance that still holds up 48 years later.

The photograph you see at 5:08 at the lower left-hand part of the screen is a real photo of Helen Cushing, Peter's beloved wife. She passed away shortly before this movie was made making this all the more emotional and sad.

It is, but its also a testament to his professionalism, his skill, and his love of the craft that even then he just wanted to be out there working still. He was that old school of working British actor, he wouldn't have wanted people fussing and asking him about it and walking on eggshells.

The thing about the old EC horror comics is that the real monsters were usually cruel mortals and the zombies, ghouls and creatures who show up are often acting as avenging angels.

The sad thing is that the people in the original story were worse. The Elliots are shown to feel slightly guilty over what they did, which is more than can be said for the scumbags in the original

Didn’t think a horror movie could make me cry, but… well, here it is.

A wonderful Amicus portmanteau movie, and this segment entitled Poetic Justice has to be one of my favourite segments, I love the design of the zombie Grimsdyke it is so dark and creepy and makes for one of the scariest back from the dead moments. I also admire how Grimsdyke returns exactly one year to the date , on Valentine's Day, and the makeup guy gave him an authentic look of how a body looks after 365 days disintegrating beneath the ground. That is exactly how a dead person looks after a years rot....they got it spot on ...believe me I know!!!

With a body it all varies.

The really sad thing about this story is you don't really have to change any of the plot to update it for the present day: just swap out electronic messages for the handwritten poison pen cards.

Grimsdyke did not know that the white hair guy knew so he didn’t do anything to him

My theory is he is punished by having to live with what happened to James.

This is a sad story, But what made it sadder for me was when Peter Chartuer came back and killed the guy that tormented him, Don't get me wrong I know its a horror, So stuff like that has to happen, After all it needs to be scary. But part of me wish he had come back just to ask why, After all he was a good man in life, Sure revenge feels great, but its seldom the action of a truly good person. In simply forcing the man to truly see what he had brough about it would have been more in keeping with who he was, Instead he comes back and takes his hart out. Like I said its a horror so a killing waa on the cards, but if it had been a more classic ghost story I would have loved to see him take the highroad

I always thought of it not really being actually Grimsdyke inhabiting the body, but moreso the body being used as karmic retribution against the tormentors. The spirit of Grimsdyke was indeed resting in peace, but the universe was just like, ‘No we can’t allow this injustice to stand’ and the best way to balance the scales was to use his decayed body to administer the punishment.

Obviously Grimsdyke as a living mortal was beyond using violence against people, but his revenant form is motivated by injustice.

It seemed really out of character. But I think it could be explained by the Cushing’s character messing with the occult and evil possessing or inhabiting his physical body even after his death.
