Thanks for being here. I know your time is valuable, so I'll keep it short. I own a company called 4LC Studios. I do video production (weddings, commercial, and anything else that grabs our attention). This youtube channel and everything I post is about the journey. What do you think of the A7iii?
Love it. I've used it on 4 weddings so far this year and has made things so much better! Its actually funny also still having the A7sii and seeing the difference in AF is stunning that I put up with the A7sii for so long! Am still waiting for 60fps 4k in a A7siii, but for now the A7iii is amazing! Great video!

I hate it so much, because I bought the a7rIII two months before and could have saved $1300 if I knew the a7iii was coming.
That’s the hard part about Sony. You can never keep up.
4k 60 definitely for the a7s3.
The A7iii is legitimately my favorite camera ever made. It's so good and I cant believe the price for the quality.

I have the A7 riii and the a7iii both great cameras .use the a7iii for video and the a7rii for pictures.overheating not a problem for me at all on both.

If the autofocus on it was as good as the A6500, it would be very tempting indeed. As is, it's AF is slightly better than the new firmware updated GH5 AF
Are you crazy? The autofocus is incredible. Not sure wha video you are watching sorry brother. The A73 autofocus is unreal.
Yeah I updated to an a7iii from an a6300. I was debating going to a GH5 but stayed on Sony. It is an insane camera. I've done two weddings and quite a few freelance projects now. Absolutely nuts, probably gonna pick up a second if the a7siii isn't announced soon enough!

Ha! I got mine 2 weeks ago. I am using it on the crane 2 with battery grip the newer one that holds 2 batterys i am getting the whole day with half left on the 2 nd one. The only issue it did heat up once but i never put the overheat bypass. Luckily gh5 on hand but i am loving the camera and waiting on the 7s3 i think it will be a great addition.

If you love the a6500, you'd go crazy about the a7iii. It's a huge upgrade from the a6500.
Is it really worth the jump up of $1000 as a starting wedding videography company?
As an A cam, yes I think so. But I understand everyone is in a diff situation. If it’s to expensive right now, then definitely stick with the a6500
I was thinking about picking up another A6500, my B cam is a canon 70d. Makes mixing the footage impossible right now. Maybe next Summer when bookings pick up more I'll get whatever is the latest camera, hopefully somethign with 4k 60fps
Nice work once again Scott. I have a Canon 5D Mark IV for nothing other than gimble work because the autofocus is so reliable and smooth... its just a shame about the useless 4K codec and 1080 60fps limit.
So I'd have an A7III in a heartbeat, but over here in the UK they're on back order for about 2 months or something daft, so I havn't bothered yet.
I'd love to fly over and do a BTS on one of your films to witness and document every aspect of your approach to film making.
Yea it's really a shame that Canon put that 4K codec in the 5D IV. It's unusable. The A73 is an outstanding camera (Especially for the price). Fly over any time, we'll make the BTS happen.
Similar data rates get you RAW on other cameras. So its just not worth it.
The other big problem is the huge 1.8x crop in 4K. It makes the sensor almost the size of micro 4/3 and actually ends up with worse low light performance that the GH5... all without the benefit of lightweight lenses and dual SD cards.
Ironically, the 1080p 60 is a lot better than most people think though. It looks quite lovely.
Unless it applies to the CLOG upgraded units (which requires a hardware change), the crop factor hasn't reduced with the latest firmware.
I really like the 5Div for gimble work in 1080p 50/60fps, but I cannot in good conscience defend the 4k implementation. I'm sure it works well for some, but its a massive pain for me.
I will not say Scott changing cameras again, but if you do I will say go for it. Watching your video about firmware 2.3 makes me happy I did not buy GH5. Thinking to get A7III or go all the way to canon 1DxII or C200, more money that I like to spend, so sony is a "cheap" option, accept sony lenses, glad that sigma and tamrom start making lenses for sony.

Yup. You pay $200 extra dollars for a $400 lens any way that’s decent for the price. Definitely worth it.
Good to see that you finally decided to "download" firmware 2.a7iii HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Once you get the custom button to fit your shooting style you will definitely appreciate the camera; low light is crazy good FYI OH and the AF might be a little better than the "previous firmware version"!!!!
I predict that by the time Sony drops the a7S III, your complete return to Sony will be complete ;)

A7III is amazing camera.
Definitely powerful for the price.
They have amazing auto focus. I am still using A6500 and don't have issues with overheating and stuff. I like it's compact size and also I am charging it using Zhiyun Crane 2 so I don't have problems with battery hehehe.
Gotta have those breath strips. Anyway would you use the 7iii for a 3rd or even 4th wide camera angle?
If I needed another angle, absolutely. It’s an awesome camera.
And again haha a new camera. I thought the m50 was the camera to give to someone and it's not complicated 😅
The M50 had no headphone port, and the auto exposure was junky, and no dual pixel AF in 4K. All things I Just couldn't deal with it. M50 is gone.
it's funny because you already tried the canon 80d for vlogging and you were very excited, same for the m50 haha hopefully this is the one :)

Do you think the greens out of the camera look natural. They look a bit much in the vid.
It was straight out of camera. I didn't tweak anything. That's easy to fix with correct white balance settings and exposure. This was straight of camera as the caption said the whole time.
Were you guys using a really fast shutter speed on that first low to the ground gimbal shot? The motion looks all wonky
It was in Aperture Priority one straight out of camera in 24 fps. Wasn't designed to be perfect.
Scott McKenna makes sense :) somethimf about the sony footage just pops.. Idk if its yhe sharpness or colors or what but it looks really nice! Cant wait to see more of your sony footage.. I currently use Lumix G85
Am I the only one seeing that highlights on the face burn out pretty bad on the a7III? Especially the last shot next to the window and compare that with the same shot at the start of the video.

Sorry, if your opinion is different, but to me Sony seems to be better in overall image quality as well.

I guess what I don’t understand is why you wouldn’t replace your gh5 setup with these for your work? Better low light, full frame, great AF...
Still have to do more testing, but the unlimited recording limit, 4K 60 fps, higher frame rate are a few of the huge things for me.
Not to mention better skin tones, cheaper native lenses, adaptable lenses, 6k anamorphic, 200fps if needed, timecode out on the 5s if needed.
Jamie Tannock disagree to a degree. Better skin tones? Not in my eye owning both. The 5s has better tones than the gh5, but if AF is needed the a7iii is a compelling option, especially knowing the a7siii is inbound as a potential future upgrade. The time limit is an obvious benefit, but lens cost is still fairly hefty on the gh5. Maybe not as much but it’s still significant. Both great cameras though.
I have the a7rIII, previously owned the GH5. I have moved to an Atomos a while ago, the workflow of having an SSD, high quality codec, and monitor is a game changer and eliminates the recording limit. 4k 60 FPS would be nice, but using a gimbal with solid AF is a bigger deal.
My main weapon of choice is the 1DX mkii so I'm not fussed about native lenses on my 5s anyway, but I do think they are cheaper than Sony still. Same goes for autofocus for me, I've got pretty much the best DSLR there is & the 5s for me is a perfect companion to it for weddings or corporate work. No time limit, 4k 60, beast in low light, easily matches with Canons colour science in post.
Owner of a6500, 5d4 , 1dxii. Sony has lots and lots of convenient features- my faves are low light capability, ibis , auto iso ranging, compact form, fast autofocus. Not so good is the rolling shutter in 4k, overheating, soft 1080 codec, skin tones need more work in post. Then it has banding , pixellation, macroblocks, artifacts in higher isos and and in flat color profiles. Still, it holds a great value. Lookig forward to a7s iii instead

Definitely not. A7s3 has a chance of that, not a73. 4k60 is mandatory now that I utilize it all the time on the gh5
pretty much all of this is over exposed - hard to judge the camera. You did present it well though.

GH5 is far better than this. But still photography is awesome in this camera.
is that mean that you are going to have dedicated BTS person fallowing you like Kraig had? I think Kraigs BTS were the best because of this person just recording him all the time. I'm sure its a lot of work to put this together but its worth it. There is guy in photography world that started to do interesting BTS with his gopro on camera, that another way to do it well. His name is Taylor Jackson and one of the episode with gopro mounted is th-cam.com/video/M8DClD_CStA/w-d-xo.html What is cool there is that we can see what he is shooting and his settings which is easier to record on Nikon but not so easy on sony or panasonic unfortunately.

Canon makes a great camera and image quality. It's just a shame they can't catch up on the 4k train.
Still has gross yellow color cast. sony color sucks.
Striaght out of camera maybe. Easy to fix with proper white balance in camera and exposure. This was untouched.
