Holy shit as a recently converted mm main this was amazing. So many cool things I didn’t know were possible!
This was great I was really helpful because I've plateaued at what I could learn on my own so this will really freshen my gameplay and push my megaman skills further.
Fantastic video man. I was a die hard Mega Man main in Smash 4 but I haven't had much time to lab and adjust to the changes they made to Mega Man in Smash 4. I found myself making a lot of errors by playing him like I would in Smash 4.
It was nice to get a quick overview on all the changes with just enough information to keep the video at a good pace and allow people to deep dive into more in depth explanations of certain things if they so choose.
Tfw I've been playing Megaman completely wrong this entire time and it's a miracle I've even managed to take stocks off of better players, let alone win any matches. I heard ZeRo go on and on about how Japan thinks Megaman is top tier and they must know some stuff we don't, and wow, is there ever a ton of stuff I didn't know about him. And nobody uses him. I've played over 100 matches online and never once seen a single Megaman or even one in a recent tournament. Suffice to say, thanks for the video, this is super enlightening.

I don't understand why people say Mega Man has gotten worse only for Metal Blade footstool combos being unusable when he definitely has some good tools in this game, sure he may not be as played as much as others, it's only a matter of time before people realize not to sleep on Mega Man, he can still be good for sure, plus the game is still new and we still have yet to unlock his full potential

He has combos and setups that don’t even need a footstool now. A simple dash and uppercut is more usable than the footstools ever were.

@@SpeedfreakUK YES! Many don't realize how deadly his uTilt is now that you can do it after a dash or run, especially because of his speed. Once they're at kill percent, you play a little closer range and be mindful for the inevitable miss or read or even reaction.
Mega Man has all the close range tools too when you mix in dTilt, also amazing for the same utility as uTilt. Not to mention all the usage his Specials get now.. Mega Man is amazing!
@@ramonM64 You can try Mega's Dtilt + Utilt,it works with just those two at low percents,because if you try this at higher ones,the Utilt won't connect with the Dtilt,plus I don't even recommend using it all that too much,because you're mostly likely gonna land the sourspot of the Utilt...

I absolutely love Megaman but found him difficult to play with. I notice that with a lot of my other friends who've never played Smash before. Most dudes pick Megaman first then think he's not very good.

I just so happened to search for a Mega Man Ultimate video... and found this within a day of it uploading. Very helpful, I might be a filthy casual who doesn’t even own the game but this will be great for when I play with friends and catch them off guard from what I usually do.

I can't thank you enough for this. i was a megaman secondary in smash 4 because I really liked how he played and how his moveset worked but I never really got a handle on how to play him

Leaf Shield in Ultimate: *Hurts players, protects against projectiles, does what the name says*
Leaf Shield in Megaman 2: *Litterally can only hurt enemies, doesn't affect projectiles, is bad, doesn't do what the name says*

Yeah, it was underwhelming in 2, but I guess we shouldn't have expected much from it. Can you imagine Captain America going like "Yes, Howard, this steel Vibranium shield looks good and all. But what if you made it out of leaves instead?"
An actual good guide unlike many of the other smashtubers. So many people are just going to training mode and talking about characters they aren't THAT knowledgeable on just to pump out videos. Your video was amazing

this just shows how much Megaman can do. I love this character so much
Another thing u can do to lighter characters is use side b and if they hold block instantly wait for bomb to detonate then use up tilt as they are still blocking to break their shield

You know that both as a Megaman and Smash fan that the future looks bright for X. Just as Link has variations of his character, X has a lot to offer along with a unique set of potential moves. Looking forward to it someday!

Megaman's been my main since Smash 4, but man I've never thought about using the Rush Coil on the top platform of Battlefield to screw with my opponent's spawn invincibility, and that's the map I've been playing the most! Also, I definitely have to practice the mega buster cancels. It sounds like an ideal tech to use especially in close range!
I haven't played since brawl so I'm pretty new and I started playing mega man and I thought he was eh because he didnt really have and jabs or good punches but, I felt he had hidden potential. This vid is extremely helpful thank you

Hey, awesome video, subscribing and upvoting your stuff.
I had a question about the Dthrow into Bair combo, I can land it, but not consistently because I always end up dashing backwards when trying to reverse the back air.
I'd like to know what exactly you are doing when you do a quick reverse BAIR while standing if you dont mind? Like how hard are you tapping the control stick, and are you using a bumper to jump, and are you using A or the C stick for the actual attack?
I know you can attack cancel hop into it, but that usually leads to a shorthop.
I mapped a jump to my left bumper but it's hard to hit consistently on time because of the way the gamecube controllers are set up. I'm assuming you use a bumper to lemon cancel as well? it's hard for me to quickly pivot from left to right to set the instant back air up on the stick. Any advice?
I may add, since I main Megaman too.
Instead of Rush Coil, most people I've noticed just drop down, so I stick with the side special, rush coil up as they try to rush me, toss buzz saw down, side special blows up, dive down and your set for a lemon/leaf juggle, then grab throw down and flame sword.
It works most of the time, but you're guaranteed at least 10% from the flame activating right after invincibility is gone, unless they evade out of it. Regardless, the invincibility won't give them an advantage anymore.

Hi! I´ve started using megaman and his very fun in ultimate, I dont know if his much better now or since I played with him on 3Ds, he felt almost impossible to played with, but now doing spikes feel insane

Prob. a little late, but i recommend going rlly deep in edge guarding. His fast air forward/back let him literally deal with any enemy down from the plattform.

A kill confirm i got from watching this video is, in air forward throw metal blade (go to where the opponent will land) then down smash.
Kills at 99+ for most heavies meaning possibly even lower on lighter characters and in general looks cool.

Mega man can also use the sticky bomb at ledge because when an opponent tried to recover at ledge the bomb immediately explodes when the opponent touches it and it can lead to a forward air kill-confirm
For any of those mega mains out there, when you use lemons you can jump at the last lemon for the knock back if you are close to the opponent’s, it’s very easy to do and it’s a jab lock move
As a MegaMan sympathiser I finally get some insight into playing the character
I am a player that play 3 characters with “annoying” play styles, I’m not going to say who unless people want me too since for some reason it’s not cool to main one of them… but I will name 2, Ice Climbers and Joker, Joker has camping tools you know… anyways, I’m planning on playing a bit of Megaman to try him out, and I’d like to thanks you for this video, this shows all of the essential stuff to learn and stuff you can add on to.
To add on to this, I would like to say that these type of characters are not “lame” unless the person playing them really wanted to be lame, but are just hard to play against, I hear so many people say Ice Climbers, Megaman, Duck Hunt, Jigglypuff, etc are lame, but there not, just hard to play against, hard to fight is not lame people…

How do you do the thing where you up air as soon as you land on the ground without jumping at all? I saw somewhere that it was just a short hop plus fast fall but I can't get it to work without launching myself upwards.
I had some questions about f-smash and dash attack. are these viable options? i know in smash 4 not a lot of mm mains used them because of how open it leaves you. thoughts?
I think that mega man is one of the characters that requires the most skill, in smash online you commonly see a cloud, a byleth, a mythra/pyra or some character that can change the course of the game with an OP special ability (some of the DLC) and I think, if everyone uses them is it really difficult to control them? I say this because I don't know if it only happens to me but seeing a megaman online is rare or unusual and megaman's special abilities don't do much damage compared to for example an arsene hit or kasuya's rage mode, I'm not saying that using them is bad, but it's impressive how those low attack special skills, combined precisely can do damage just like op characters , this video showed me that as a main megaman I can improve and that there are many different ways to attack, thanks

I'm mostly a link player ( I play all 3) but I found out I'm an absolute monster with mega man so I want to learn how to use him more
They should’ve changed his move sets a bit. His Mega Buster should be his neutral special, and could be charged while he’s moving. His neutral normal attack could be his slash attack (like his back air attack) and could be like a 2 or 3 hit combo. His normal forward strong attack could be his fire slash (like his forward air attack). Then his forward smash attack could be his Hard Knuckle (like his down air attack). Just some suggestions.

As a mega man fan, it hurts my brain that leaf shield can block projectiles
For anyone that may not be able to get the first combo at 5:51 it isn't buffered at all. (If you're facing right) Down throw -> Dash forward and immediately tap left -> press jump immediately after you tap left -> immediately after pressing jump input the back air. The initial forward momentum carries you through the move. If you don't want to to carry the back air through you can hold left (if you're facing right) to propel yourself back.
If I am thinking correctly, I dont even dash forward. During the throw animation, I just hold the stick VERY slightly in the opposite direction to turn around (enough to turn around, but not dash), then input my Back Air. Kinda difficult to explain tho lol

He showed in the video but didnt say nothing, you Can do a Jab lock with only the lemons, you need to do 2 side tilts and the third One jump to get knock back, then keep with the stick to their direction and do another lemon, and there is a Jab lock 👍

So I’ve been wanting to try to get good with Mega Man for a long time but I have a question!
What is the best controller/button layout for Mega Man? I always have a hard time short hopping while spacing my lemons actively.
Golden_Magikarp if you press jump and attack you will short hop and pellet.
In the video in the description, they mention controller setups. For some of the tech in this video you have to turn A+B smash off, and it makes it a lot easier when you set a shoulder button to jump. But short hopping pellets will just take time and practice. But the short hop macro makes it much easier in this game :]
Didnt mention that you can up smash and bair out of a shield. Not unique to the character, but a good defensive tool nontheless.

Just a question I’ve wondered, what is the best jump options for megaman, tap jump or?
In the videos in the description, they mention a controller setup to use. Tap jump is all personal preference, but for the Pellet cancelling tech, you HAVE to turn A+B smash off and it makes it very easy to set a shoulder button to jump. Hope this helps :]

I, personally, don't see a need for Tilt Stick on him. And I USED to use a shoulder button for jump, but the Pellet Macros no longer work. Everything else is default, except for I change Y to Shield because it Y is easier to mash instead of the Gamecube shoulder buttons in case I need to mash airdodge lol
Hi! i'm wondering is it better to use the stick for smash attacks or tilt attacks for megaman? which do you use?
Blu personally I go for the smash attacks on the stick, though it probably would be more efficient to make it tilts so that you don’t accidentally up smash or down smash when you use the slide or mega upper, though you can’t spam lemons using the right stick if it’s set to tilts.
I've never had a reason to use tilt stick on MM, personally. Most characters have a decent, go to tilt in neutral, but MM doesnt really have that (except F-Tilt ofc, but that's also Jab and Nair xD). F-Tilt is very easy to input for me without tilt stick and Up Tilt and Down Tilt are really niche moves and otherwise easy to input. Just personal preference though xD

I do, as well. But Mega Man feels buffed overall with how good leaf shield is now, the Forward Air buff, and the new tech he has. So its a worth trade-off in my eyes xD
