    Pretty darn amazing. Can’t imagine the stress on the engine let alone a man having to use both sides of his brain to make it happen! Great stuff.

      heeder777 there are hardly any stress on the motor, at least not compared to a large 3D helicopter.

    I'll tell you what first hits me as an engineer, is that high reverse beta like that might actually make low "unrecoverable" stall/spin accidents vastly more survivable, slowing the rate at impact by a LOT, especially if some electronic systems were installed to QUICKLY transition everything to the proper mode when absolutely necessary..

    Does the propeller-pitch control system use a helicopter-style swash-plate?

    • @keithlucas6260

      Harold Smith .....yes it does

    • @darkswami
      @darkswami 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keith Lucas No swash plate i think, just collective pitch and a sideways tilting motor. I wonder if there would be much difference with a complete rotorhead mounted. Maybe even more control? Although lack of control is not an isue here. :^)

    How’s that work then, inverted prop but, how’s he take off then and how can he nose dive yet flying backwards....

    • @PabloGonzalez-hv3td
      @PabloGonzalez-hv3td 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The prop isn't inverted it's controllable pitch so the thrust can also be directed forwards the description refers to an inverted prop hang since typically the prop hang can only be performed with the prop facing up

    Uh it's not the only one in the world, reverse pitch on 3d r/c air planes has been around for about ten yrs or so. I had a flat out 3d foamy with reverse pitch, flew just the same as the one in video.

    Great innovation and amazing flying skills! A bit frustrating during the 'weird' stuff to have an extreme close-up from the camera, though. Filling the frame might be good filming technique, but as a video record for someone who 'wasn't there', it doesn't show us what we want to see. With no horizon reference there's no sense of what the plane's doing. It's like watching a jazz saxophone solo with the camera focused on the hole at the end of the instrument rather than moving back a little and showing us a stance, a face, a mouth, and some fingers. We can't see the music coming out of the end of the sax; and with the plane, we can't see gravity being defied... ;-)

  • @superskullmaster
    @superskullmaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It also has lateral thrust vectoring. You should update your description.

  • @darkswami
    @darkswami 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I remember when i started flying 25 years ago people saying "hanging on the propeller? impossible: you have no airflow over the control surfaces!"
    Hah!

    • @getsideways7257
      @getsideways7257 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hanging on the propeller is nothing to get excited about... Standing on one is another matter entirely. To think that even the sucked in air would generate enough forces on the control surfaces... On such a large RC aircraft at that.

    • @darkswami
      @darkswami 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get Sideways 25 years ago, it was pretty impressive to pull of for more than 3 seconds, especially with a PT40 with 6,5cc. Now, not so much. Go look at an indoor show: it'll make you question the laws of physics.

    • @EricDenny
      @EricDenny 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plenty of airflow from propwash alone. Even full size prop planes get like 50% or more of their control from the propwash. That's why landing is so hard to learn at first. With the engine is at idle, controls are very sluggish and slow to respond. Full control deflection can be made quickly without even a wobble during final flare. Do that sitting still at Max power during engine runup check and you can cause a tail strike on SOME aircraft. Many full size prop planes also have collective pitch props and some can reverse like this. Not used quite like this! But it's helpful for taxi manuvers and reverse thrust braking on rollout

    • @getsideways7257
      @getsideways7257 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again, the controls have plenty airflow downwind of the prop, sure. But think about the situation where the prop is reversed (i. e., standing on the prop rather than hanging off of it).
