    I did a video where i applied a black base multi on one eye and a matching shift iridescent over black eyeshadow on the other to see if it’s redundant and if having iridescents was enough, and it was interesting to see how they were essentialy the same but still kinda different especially cos the texture was

      Yes, I would love to see different iridescent multichromes over different colors, reds, blues, etc... to see how they change and for inspiration on looks! I love swatching all my multichromes and metallics, but I am an amateur when it comes to coming up with looks. Swatch porn is the best but I need to know how to pair them for my looks! 😊❤

    We are all creatures of habit, lol, which explains why we buy the same shades over and over in different variations from different brands. I love these videos! I could watch you do this all day. ❤

    I used to not like Made on Mars either but I have found that both that shade & Falling Star make beautiful highlighters. If applied very lightly with a super fluffy & not densely packed fan brush it, the gray base doesn’t leave a cast.

    The base of space case is actually a warm tan! Ik they call it a grey base.. But it's definitely a tan/brown base. Same with m51 & iirc cosmic dancer too! Ooop I shoulda kept watching because you just said it 🤭

    Thank you, Riley for me giving me vicarious satisfaction in swatching shifties! For someone who lives in SEA, getting a hold of these pricey shifties needs a lot of thought --avoiding duplicates and calculating shipping fee + period are huge factors in decision making. I'm grateful that you are putting an emphasis on how iridescent shifters could be layered on different bases to achieve a similar effect to the more popular dark-based multichromes. It's great to be informed.

    This is so much fun! Color theory is so wildly fascinating, but also bewildering. I wonder how much a person’s undertone would affect the comparisons?

    • @seekingshifts
      @seekingshifts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a really good point about skin undertone!! I think it would def play a role especially for the iridescents and gray based multis

    • @catherinelynnfraser2001
      @catherinelynnfraser2001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the tone of the base as well 😂

    • @jenniferw392
      @jenniferw392 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@catherinelynnfraser2001 That’s a good point. Greys can be so complicated, depending on if they lean brown, green, purple, yellow, blue, etc. I am guessing they would contrast and highlight some pigments but also potentially cancel out some of the shifts in the multichromes.

  • @sarac8076

    And what about layering over a base colour, blue, brown, green, purple. I thought of this because I saw a video on IG from Karla Cosmetics where Linda Halberg used a translucent pigment called Skylight over a deep blue and it completely changed the pigment and it was surprising how different it looked.

    Yessss, multichrome science! I'm wondering if Clionadh Ray would better replicate the TM Lunar Spectrum family because it seems to be more red from straight on than most pink-orange-golds. As for M51 vs Big Bang, I'm thinking the difference is that M51 has a warm brown base and Big Bang has a sheer greyish taupe base (rather than tan). I really wouldn't have thought of Space Case as part of the Clionadh Lux family; I'll have to keep that in mind!

    • @seekingshifts
      @seekingshifts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually don’t have ray! but I’ll inevitably end up picking it up in a future order, I’m sure 🤣🤣

  • @blendofdays
    @blendofdays ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yeah I do think inferno is part of the first group. What happens is, the formula can change how shiny/sparkly/reflective it is. Especially when it comes to black & grey based. I guarantee if you took matte black or grey pigment & added an iridescent multichrome pigment & then pressed it, you'd get an entirely different effect than just using the black based multichrome pigment & turning that into a pressed eyeshadow. I hope I'm making sense. I know this from experience. So while you can swatch an iridescent over a matte & get a similar effect, most eyeshadow that is black or grey based comes that way as a premixed pigment. Once you take that black/grey based multichrome pigment & add a bunch of ingredients & press it, it changes how it looks in finish.

    • @seekingshifts
      @seekingshifts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohhhh yess this is such a good point! I also wonder if doing a metallic black base instead of matte would have made a difference. I need to see if I can find a smooth metallic black single shadow!

    I LoVE Made on Mars. Would love to see a video of these sorts of colors. I feel like Made on Mars and other "bland" colorful shifty shades feels more wearable for work some days than Spicy Neutrals. I also love muted mattes like DLC Lakeview and would love to see some of your favorite mattes in that genre - maybe swatched out as looks / color-combos?

    On that note: would you like some links to patent filings that explain manufacturing process of certain pigments? They are relevant to how it is difficult to replicate dark base multichromes with iridescents.
