    Just a wonderful and easy-to-follow tutorial. Doing the artwork myself saved me a couple K, and I would have never known how to make it into pdf's without you. Thank You!
    Oh, and I didn't even notice, 6 years later and this video still perfect with newer version of Sketchup.

    What an incredibly generous series of videos on this subject. I'm a Graphic Design teacher, previously worked in feature animation, finding many similar - transferrable techniques/software and fantastic, in-depth series. THANK YOU! I have many questions but think this is the direction I would like to move toward. Reading and watching everything I can find on it.

    Questions: I see Sketchup is used, and Illustrator. Do you need Autodesk Inventor or CAD for any of this? Can it all by done with SU AND AI?

    You have chosen Landscape but a patent drawing should have if possible the short side of the sheet on top, right?

    • @PatentClarity
      @PatentClarity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely correct. If at all possible use the short side of the sheet as the top. I used Landscape to provide more space for the example videos otherwise the image would be either too small without enough detail and there would be continual zooms or there would be constant scrolling left, right, top, bottom. Here is an example of the orientation further described: th-cam.com/video/-Y7siIP6nlA/w-d-xo.html&t=132, and here are the MPEP references to the "shorter sides of the sheet": search.uspto.gov/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&affiliate=web-sdmg-uspto.gov&sort_by=&query=%22shorter+sides+of+the+sheet%22

    Very helpful video. quick question, I notice all patent drawing label has high numbers. Why is that? help me to understand. thank you

    • @PatentClarity
      @PatentClarity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a common practice that some patent professionals will begin their 'reference characters' (numbers at the end of 'lead lines') with 100. More about 'Reference Characters' can be found in the MPEP (Manual for Patent Examination Procedures) Section: 1.84 [Standards for drawings] mpep.uspto.gov/RDMS/MPEP/e8r9#/e8r9/d0e320999.html See: (p) Numbers, letters, and reference characters.

    Hi, thank you for the video. I have a quick question : do you know if we need to drawn also the electrical system of the object in a patent drawing? Have a great day!

    • @PatentClarity
      @PatentClarity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. However; this would definitely fall under a Utility Patent Application if you are patenting an electrical process, or component as part of your invention. If the electrical system was 'novel' (meaning new or substantially different than what already exists) and is part of your claimed invention you would indeed need to have it as a part of your drawings for utility patents. If the electrical system simply represents a part of your invention, but you are not claiming as to inventing it; then the system should still be represented in your drawings, but should be represented as 'broken lines'.
      More about what makes a patent 'novel' can be found here:
      www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/qualifying-patent-faq.html#answer-1741733
      More about 'broken lines' (for things you are not claiming to invent) can be found here:
      mpep.uspto.gov/RDMS/MPEP/current#/current/d0e324205.html
      mpep.uspto.gov/RDMS/MPEP/current#/result/ch2900_d24abc_19807_39d.html?q=broken%20line&ccb=on&ncb=off&icb=off&fcb=off&ver=current&syn=adj&results=compact&sort=relevance&cnt=10&index=1
      For more information consult with the Manual of Patent Examination Procedures (MPEP) mpep.uspto.gov or an IP Attorney.

    This may work for utility patents, but keep in mind that the USPTO requires contour shading on design patent drawings, which you'll have to add manually.

    • @PatentClarity
      @PatentClarity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true. Sketchup presently lacks this feature so there would definitely be some finishing work using Illustrator. I posted a couple videos on how to add shade lines (hatching) using Illustrator. You can see them here.
      th-cam.com/video/ifvipWfZNfI/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/j1-kG5Cmm7I/w-d-xo.html
      Solidworks and Autodesk allow you to add shading automatically, but that would be for more advanced users.

    • @PatentClarity
      @PatentClarity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your inexperience in drafting shows in your remarks.
      You mention you know how to... "prepare patent drawings professionally", and then refute that claim by saying Autodesk and Dassault applications are not capable of shading. There are 'real' professionals who use them in patent drafting every day.
      Hatching and Shade lines can be produced by any competent engineer using any CAD product, custom plugins, or their own macros. 'Autodesk' is the colloquial term incorporating all their tool sets. Hatching and Shade lines can be added during production or post production of the drawings. Exporting (or outputting) is just a matter of choosing the correct export format. Exported documents can be created and edited with any number of other applications. All the drawing standards are published in the MPEP and anyone has access to it so the term "uspto acceptable" is only a matter of adhering to the procedures and has nothing to do with you 'getting by with manual additions'.

    • @vitam1805
      @vitam1805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So how many drawing pictures can you submited with one application?

    • @MegaRetroRocket
      @MegaRetroRocket 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Vita M As many as you need to illustrate your idea. If it's a design patent, usually 8; Front, Back, Left Side, Right Side, Top, Bottom, Isometric and In-Use Isometric.
      Utility patents may require more, especially if multiple components are involved.
