Great video Jeff one thing is for sure Jeff and the boys will get the job done. An not destroy the Equipment being used. Thanks for sharing stay safe Jeff. Merry Christmas to you and the Anderson Family's!
Parts are becoming a real problem for everything. More and more companies don’t even have part’s except for online ordering. Part of the reason is when local distributors get taxed on inventory. That’s why they don’t stock as much. And shipping has gone up so much because everyone orders everything these days online. The big customers like Amazon get reduced rates while everyone else pays top dollar. Overnight shipping often costs more than the cost of the item. It’s an F’d up system.
Great video 👍 On the shelf parts was stopped by the car maker's "just in time " production and low cost part's inventory helps pay the shareholders dividend and the CEOs bonus payment 😊
Brilliant video again. Digging a hole is easy innit especially big ones! At least you turned up a million years early before that black stuff turned into marble or something. A real education and the best video quality. Those engines purr away without going bull at a gate . This is professional stuff. Thanks Geoff.
The content from digging this pit has provided a lot of time for You to expound Your knowledge on scraper operations. Thanks for sharing it with us Jeff. Best Wishes to You, Your Family and Friends for the Holiday Season !
This brings back memories Jeff. In 1975 we dug three huge pits at Luke AFB in Phoenix AZ. To bury old runway rubble. Had a 66A D9 serial #4475 for pushing. Had two 630B scrapers and a 46A D8 for backfilling. Took us over a month to get it dug and back filled. The old 9 was a sweet old girl only had a single shank ripper. It still had pony motor start. The 46A had pony motor start also it could be 100 degrees and that 8 would just blow smoke rings till you gave it a shot of ether😎
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Love the content always and can’t wait to hear all your totals after this scraper job. Load count, fuel usage, hours man & machine. And yards of material. Don’t let the hater’s get to ya because the window doesn’t bother me
Stared running scrapers in 1971 first one was a Wabco C pull all electric cable machine. No down pressure getting the apron to close in rocky material was always fun. 8V71 Michigan Maytag. Finally got on the 630s night and day difference 😎
Always something to slow you down huh Jeff. Thanks for the video of ripper beating ❤❤. Take care of yourself and family and friends and be Blessed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family and Griffey 🐕.
Years ago, one of my Cat parts guys suggested that instead of paying freight on parts that they could put the parts on one of their dealer to dealer route trucks from a dealer with the part I needed and there would be no freight charge. That was some good advice.
Things are changing fast, and not for the good. CAT seems to be going the way Ford has, a Ford is obsolete as far as parts go after seven years and that figure may be even less now
Hi mate love watching your videos always looking forward to seeing more ok mate I’d like to wish yous a merry Christmas and a happy new year all the best in the new year and keep safe
Talking about the dealers not having stock on hand, the company I used to work for would keep a bare minimum of spares on hand locally because uncle sugar liked to tax them on the parts they had on the shelf, so it made sense (dollars) for them to let the vendors store the parts and order them when needed. It kinda makes logic for the company, not so much for the customer. The government isn’t concerned about anything but getting their dickskinners on our money.
inventory tax is something every retail business has to deal with, but not having bolts at a cat dealer is insanity, I'm currently converting the scrapers over to D model air canisters so filters are readily available , then I'm guaranteed to get them without freight and I don't have to stock them
@@normanhacker3588 Do they make all Cat filters? I use a lot of Donaldson and when you learn to identify them you can sort of tell who made what. But filters are constantly changing manufacturers and whatnot.
The best is when the parts guy says “I can have it in 3 days” guess what so can I but it will be at my door for cheaper. Dealers need to get with the times. Up charging me for the same Chinese junk I can order. Useless
Fabick cat just started putting a charge on all parts from there warehouse in Morton IL if you want it next day. It's 5% of the parts up to 500$ plus freight. It used to be just freight. And I buy a lot of my parts from America crane.

Ok, so what about blasting the rock to break up instead of ripping it? Yes, you'll have bigger onse in the , ix but it would break up the ground around it. Or blasting would soften up the sides too much great show today thanks for sharing another day in the field
Talking about inventory and parts at one place I worked the company had to pay tax based on the value of material they had on site.. This was fabricated items which may be different from parts in stock at a dealer but in this case the company would thin down the inventory at the end of the year to reduce the tax burden. Taxes such as these hurt American business and most people are not aware of these practices.
Caterpillar has hurt themselves over customer service and pricing. Keep the old iron rolling the parts are still there like you said after market and original are still in more and more places.
I don't blame you Jeff, I would go somewhere else to buy parts, they don't appreciate the service of u the buyer, buying parts from them, an cat abuses the end users wallet because they can , it's redi5, thanks for sharing
Ever since the Wuflu parts have been difficult here in Australia and the people who did the parts counter work have mostly retired. The newbies didn't get the knowledge passed down to them and despite their best intent aren't as good. I herd of a new JD harvester eating a concrete fence post this harvest and JD didn't have any parts in Australia to fix it and air freighted it in. Over $30k I'm hearing with a 3 week delay!
Your parts guy should order it to go into inventory. Period. Then sell it to you when it does so you avoid all that extra nonsense. My parts guy does this.
The outfit I worked for back in the day we used 641A scrapers and D9h and at one point I believe they had 30 641A scrapers! I got stuck running scraper on a job and we hit a rock and we'll the guy running the push cat wasn't happy about it because part of base edge tore out of bowl or can and as young guy I did the right thing being the guy that is pushing me is already waving at me I pumped the can a few times before I left the cut !
Jeff, Does Morton Parts have a Will Call or Parts Pick Up window or they only sell thru the dealer network..?? Every day I drive by Cat dealer Altofer and Morton Parts Facility You would think a guy could pick up parts and drop at a UPS or FedEx shipper faster...??
Not really unless u had a ripper tooth for it and the D9 is 3-4 times faster since he's using 2 rippers and constantly moving. Most ripper tooth's for excavator's are T welded to a plate and not as rigid as the D9. A bucket would take to big of a bite and break teeth.
Unfortunately, anymore it doesn’t seem like cat cares about their customers anymore, especially small outfits, seems like they just cater to the big outfits with the new equipment.
The sad part of your Dealer dilema is you aren't important enough to them. You're not buying or leasing millions of dollars of equipment each year. You operate the same way it's been done in the pastband that's what built those Dealers. I got the same treatment at the Deere Ag Dealer. The Deere Excavation Dealers are not as numerous so they pretty much play the old way. About all of the Ag dealers play the new game. There's guys who buy one new piece every year and are abused and ignored. I spent my money where I was appreciated as much as the next guy, not under appreciated.
it's obsidian, but it's like a very low quality and not completely formed , in later videos I'll show you the 10 feet of it we cut thru and some interesting things I found in it
I had a friend who had a bunch of them, the dealer said they would do what his 631E"s would do cheaper so he bought some, he told me exactly what I related, they have there use's but won't do what the conventional scrapers will do and definitely not cheaper. for fine grade and finish work there the shit to have.
