    I agree with the ar-15/M16 because of its modularity. You can easily fix almost anything pretty easily. If even the barrel explodes and if you have or if you can find another complete upper, you're back in the game. You can use multiple calibers and a lot of them you can even use the same magazines. You can use uppers chambered in .22 lr, .223/5.56mm, .300 aac bo, .458 Socom, and even .410 shotgun uppers. They're easy to clean. If you and a few guys each had one standard AR-15 and many types of different calibered uppers and lots of ammo for each upper, you can potentially be a 2 to 5 man army.

    I am in an urban area. The longest distance engagement I might have is 200-300 yards at most. I am pretty confident with my AR's as my go to for SHTF.... I think the "go to" SHTF weapons is location dependent. If I lived in a rural area, yeah I might want something bigger with magnification of some type. I think considerations need to be taken if you plan to "bug out." I don't plan on bugging out, I have nowhere to go. AR is a pretty good combination of home protection/sentry gun and semi long distance engagements.

    • @hobbz4921

    • @jasonharrison25
      @jasonharrison25 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      @@hobbz4921 the basic idea and original intent is not flawed at all. Bugging out is meant to be bugging out to a specific location that ideally would not be experiencing the same SHTF situation. But the term has been misconstrued to mean heading out into the woods to live off the land. But that is really bushcrafing and not bugging out.
      Bugging out also doesn't always mean to head to a remote cabin in the woods either. It could just be a family or friend in another city or state.

    • @DKOutdoorAdventures

      If you're in an urban area you are most likely screwed if you don't bug out.

    • @joshrandall3632
      @joshrandall3632 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Do yourself a favor and find a place to bug out. If it's a real SHTF scenario, urban areas will be extremely toxic and they'll get that way very fast.
      You're absolutely correct about the AR being a great general purpose rifle, and if you can't get out of town, it will serve you quite well. I would add some magnification though. A flip to the side 3x or 5x magnifier can be had on the cheap. Not really needed for shooting, but it really helps with target ID. Good luck to you.

    Great video and i think this list is accurate for a general purpose SHTF. In my mind an AR is the number 1 for most scenarios. I also believe if SHTF and it's in the northern part of America where it gets to be below freezing during the winter, imma rock the AK until it gets warm out or i want to hunt bigger game... with that being said, be proficient on multiple platforms... bc if Red Dawn scenario comes into play, their stuff can become your stuff...

    I'd ditch the bolt gun for an AK mostly because if SHTF from outside forces, they will more than likely be armed with the same. Ammo, parts, and ultimately, extra firepower would be available. I agree on everything else.

    There are some really great light weight choices for 308’s, the newest being the ruger sfar 6.8-7.8lbs, my personal favorite the POF Revolution (short stroke gas piston, adjustable gas block, lots of technological improvements, the upper and rail are one piece, best part is that it’s the same length as an 16” ar15, and the same weight as the m4 I believe at 7.4lbs), 16-18” FAL’s, 16-18” m1a’s, key-tec rfb 8.1lbs, scar 17 7.9lbs, Cz bren 308 8.3lbs, galil ace 308 8.2lbs, I think there are quite a few but definitely the ruger and the pof make the best case for light weight battle rifle, there is still the ammo penalty, but maybe we can develop some light weight level 4 or 5 plates or make the ammo lighter.

    Figured in this situation ammo/mags/battery availability was important in a scavenging scenario (hence 5.56/223 and AR platform)
    Also wanted all optics and sights to be fuctional without any power (no batteries, EMP etc)
    16.3 was a compromise for distance since I live in the suburbs, equal distance (within 15 miles) from a major metro city, and open hills/woodlands/mountains

    The .22 is a good small game and close defense weapon. A 25 round "J" magazine will be a genuine surprise in a gun fight, you can carry a 10 round small mag, in your top shirt pocket. Another option, a 12 pump along with a 1911 style .45 or 9MM as a belt carried weapon might give you time to reload the 12G.

    Seeing how the serialized lower receiver of the AR is considered the firearm it would be more versatile than it might appear. A 5.56 upper with a CMMG .22 LR conversion kit all the way up to .450 Bushmaster and everything in between with the swap of an upper. A 9mil PCC goes without saying for a good SHTF weapon. I just finished my BCM 9” .300blackout when my sf 300sps got released. Gonna be hard to choose anything else at the moment. With 220gr subs I can fire shots without getting easily detected. If I need to take some farther shots, I can switch to 110gr supers and deploy my 3x magnifier…
    I could also pack another upper in 5.56 with a scope mounted, say a 14.5” with a 1-6x, and add even more versatility to my gear..

    You mentioned weight with the AR10. They do make magnesium recievers, light weight handguards etc. my ar10 weighs 8.4 lbs from magazine to sling, to scope (2-12, not an LPVO). It also is a consistent sub MOA gun with Berger 168s. It’s also lighter than my tikka 😂. Also another option for the budget minded people that want an AR platform… enter the ruger sfar. Pretty easy to get an sfar under 9 lbs. ar15 in 300 blk, 6.5g etc is a good option depending on ammo.

    I got. However, I have been prioritizing training with the firearms that I DO have. A good, reliable carry pistol in 9mm and a decent semi auto rifle in .223/5.56. I still hope to have a few more of what you've listed in this video at some point in the future.

      IMHBAO, those are by far the most important to have. That's what I have for my go-to set-up. For my handgun I have a .40 barrel and a .22LR conversion slide to give me more options. For my rifle I also have a .22LR conversion kit and I'm building a 7.62x39 upper for more options.
      Spend your money and time getting them set up appropriately before you buy more guns. Also, remember YOU are the most important part of the system, so develope your skill set, develope a strategy (plan) and work on your tactics.

    For a Red Dawn situation, AR-15 hands down but I don't own one yet, haha! So, it would be my Ruger PCC, since I have a ton of Glock mags that would go with my sidearm, Glock 17.

I skeet shoot with it, so I'd feel comfortable defending and hunting with it. I could take small or large game for hunting or defend with it, given the ammo.

    To not have a 7.62x39 weapon on your list is telling. Remember in a SHTF scenario, everyone becomes a scavenger. We will all be living off of the battlefield to some extent. 5.56/223 and 7.62x39 will be the most likely rounds available for scavenging. Honestly you can cover everything with just 3 firearms! #1- 12gage, it’s got the most options for ammo types! Bird shot, buckshot, and rifled slugs. Pump action or mag fed AR 12gage will work for 9/10 situations. #2- AR10 in 308 or 270 will take care of your long range situations. For #3- 22LR or 22WMR. 22mag is a very underrated option that with good shot placement you can drop a moose! The 22LR is cheap and plentiful with a large range of bullet types. From shot shell to segmented hallow points that can take small game up to man sized predators. To make this a top 5 #4 and #5 should be pistols. I would go with the 45ACP +p or 45 SUPER over the 9mm for sure for #4 and for #5- I would go with a 460 S&W. Ammo options are great cause you can shoot not just the 460S&W but the 454Casull, 45colt and one of the best hunting revolvers available. If you have trouble getting the 460S&W the 44mag/410 revolver is ok but right now 410 is damn near impossible to find. Let me know what you think of my recommendations

    The AR-10 based Lewis Machine and Tool; MWS doesn't get much press. But the UK chose them for their designated Marksman Rifle. And it shoots 1 moa with standard 7.62x51 ammo. Doesn't need sniper ammo!
    But even better you can swap barrels in less than 5 minutes. LMT makes barrels for the MWS in most .308 based cartridges i.e. 6.5 Creedmoor, .243. 7.08, etc.
    Hopefully the new they will make a .277 Fury barrel! Different length barrels are available. You can carry your 13" 7.62 x 51 for CQB barrel in your backpack. 20" 6.5 Creedmoor for long range.
    Their Proprietary monolithic Upper makes them very sturdy and you can leave the scope mounted to the rifle. The point of impact when you swap barrels can be recorded in your 'log book! They take Magpul as well as SR-25. These can shoot just as well as a Knights.
    I currently own the MWS with the 20" 6.5 Creedmoor and a 16" 7.62 x 51. A 13" 7.62 x 51 is on the wish list. But that will require a tax stamp.
    Cheers

    I just love how all these city folks plan on going out to the forest and hunting when SHTF... Guess who else is planning on "heading for the hills" EVERYONE!! And gues who is already there, the folks that live in the hills.. all you are doing is bringing more supplies for them to harvest.

      @@un_known_876 instead of heading for the hills when, and only when SHTF, spend some time out there beforehand and get your "vacation home" established..
      Or, find a reasonable piece of property just outside the city, and build your "fortress" so you don't have to run..
