That means that the recoil force you feel on your hand is about equal to the force that is felt when the bullet strikes. Not even a shotgun would knock you down unless you're off balance or it hits your lower leg as you're stepping.

    • @thebanditman5663
      @thebanditman5663 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Lickma Balls Knock down power when reffering to the .45 ACP is in regards to the level of hydrostatic shock the bullet emparts on the body "AFTER" penetration. Heavy round moving slower through the body creates a huge gaping cavity, and the displaced fluid makes you're BP momentarrelly shit itself, and you can near instantly pass out unless you are on some crazy drugs. This is a matter of physics, and with armor on, a hard plate that dosn't deform into the wearer at that, a bullet can not penetrate soft tissue or displace enough matter to make a person go into shock and collapse, IE get knocked down. .45 just like any other heavy round with enough mass and ass behind it can seriosly fuck someone's day up, if you are not wearing armor. The grandfather and original Second Chance founder who shot himself in his vest 192 times to show it worked brought protection to mainly rated pistol calibers at the time. It still stung but generally no incapacitating injuries. Im trusting the technology and not testing on myself or anyone not needing it. Some years ago I saw a video of a police officer shot in the chest at point blank range with a.45. He turned around away from the gunman and took one step and fell to the ground. Ask any military person who has seen combat and they will tell you that no one is knocked down by a rifle shot. I have heard that body reflexes can make it look like someone is knocked down when shot, but I don’t know if that is true.

    • @Sgtassburgler
      @Sgtassburgler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong. Just look at the arm of the guy that Kyle Rittenhouse shot. .556 has plenty of energy transfer and it has way more energy than .45 acp. and that is considered an intermediate cartridge. 308. and other real rifle cartridges will stop someone no matter where you hit them. According to the algorithm for Taylor knock out factor, speed matters just as much as weight and bullet diameter in stopping power. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_knock-out_factor
      I dunno what military people you are talking to but I would suspect them of stolen valor or being POG's.

    • @OnTheRiver66
      @OnTheRiver66 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sgtassburgler I’m not saying getting hit by a bullet will not stop you or bring you down, I’m saying that you will not be knocked down. One of the military combat veterans I talked to was a marine in Vietnam and saw a lot of action. He told me and other combat veterans will tell you that men shot in combat fall where they stand. My friend was talking to a buddy in Nam when the man was hit in the forehead by a Viet Kong sniper by a high velocity rifle bullet. He fell to the ground in front of my friend. They all fall to the ground when hit and are not knocked around. An old friend of mine was in France in WW2, shot and captured by the Germans, and he saw a man hit by an artillery shell running across the battle field and he fell to the ground after taking a couple of steps without his head. I’m talking about being taken down, I’m talking about being not knocked down by any bullet going through a hand or arm or leg, head, or body. The ones who saw combat don’t talk about these things until you ask them. Once they answer your questions they don’t continue talking about it. Talk to some of the vets who saw hard core combat and ask them about solders being knocked around by being hit in the hand or arm. I read the article you referenced and it is about knocking an animal out, not about knocking them down. There have been a number of gun magazines over the years with articles on knock down power, even the American Rifleman, and they all said people are not knocked down by being shot. I was shown films of combat when in the Army and no one on the battlefield was knocked down when hit, they just fell, some dead before hitting the ground.

The man who incented body armor demonstrated it working exactly the same way, a man whos company builds armored vics sat in the drivers seat while an employee shot rounds from an ak into the windows. Not exactly the smartest thing ever, but not inherebtly stupid. Not much different than using cs gas to test gas masks or having new cops be hit with pepperspray or tasers. I've always thought the stop a running horse argument was really a bad selling point. Sure, he's wearing armor, but the transfer of force from the round to disperse over the plate was not enough to move the person. It's why when people do get shot, they don't fly backward, and why when they get shot in the head, they fall straight down since the weight of their bodies is greater then the force acting on them.

      If you got an adrenaline rush you can take bullets. I got shot in the face and was able to sprint around my engine block and like 40 feet into the parking lot with a severed corroded artery and a shattered jaw. Then when we got outside of the hospital parking lot I took over driving, parked and locked my car then walked myself into the Er completely covered in blood head to toe. If I had my gun I would have been able to dump both my 17 round mags after getting shit in the face. Unless you hit the heart or the brain stem there no guarantee you stop the threat. Especially with only 1 round. Now that one round has made the last year of my life a living hell permanently disfigured missing teeth. The floor of my mouth got remodeled I had a tooth growing from nearly the middle of.my mouth under my tongue. Bullets do bad shit to human tissue and bone.

  • @nuclearkamikaze
    @nuclearkamikaze 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Knockdown does not refer to flying backwards like you would see in the movies. That was a misconception promoted by Hollywood films. Knockdown refers to the reaction someone’s nervous system has when struck by a projectile. In the case of the “knockdown power” controversy where .45. caliber got its ethos from, was in the War in the Philippines in the 1900’s the natives would fight high on a local stimulant which would allow them to take multiple hits of the smaller caliber rounds. The soldiers were issued .45’s and noticed it had a higher lethality rate. I like 9mm and glocks because a higher mag capacity is definitely an advantage. But ask yourself why you see videos of cops and soldiers dumping 7, 8, 9 rounds of 9mm into someone and they’re still advancing towards them. Now projectiles have advanced a lot with Hollow Points and modern powders, and 9mm is way more powerful than it’s older iterations. Today though studies show caliber doesn’t matter, what matters in a firefight is who makes the shot first, but, usually bigger calibers make more devastating wounds that are harder to walk away from,

    • @theparaminuteman
      @theparaminuteman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      9mm .40sw and .45acp are all pretty much the same class of projectile. It is possible to hand load or buy loads that all mimic each other. For example, I can buy 230gr .40sw that travels at around the same FPS as .45acp. It’s the same round.

    • @nuclearkamikaze
      @nuclearkamikaze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theparaminuteman Back then you didn’t have access to that many differences in grains. The ammo had the impact it did because they were using a much lighter round at the time and then moved to a heavier one. Which is how the whole “knockdown” characteristic came associated in 45, which is what I was explaining but, I guess you missed that. It’s much easier now to get access to a wider variety of ammo and weights. So also like I said today, in moderns rounds the difference is less noticeable.

    • @theparaminuteman
      @theparaminuteman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nuclearkamikaze You think that 9mm Para wasnt just as powerful (in terms of incap potential) as .45 during WW2?

    • @nuclearkamikaze
      @nuclearkamikaze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theparaminuteman No. The velocity was made better for .9 but .115 grain didn’t much close the gap to .45. Modern ammo has gotten much closer with hotter loads and improved hollow points. Early .9mm hollow points were awful. Lot of cocooning problems. Today the gap is much closer although my hollow points I use for work and ccw are +P+ and travel at the same velocity a hot 9mm does. So yeah a .45 hollow point traveling at near the velocity of a 9mm is much more effective. But like I said this whole mythos and misconception of knockdown was witnessed a long time ago and with modern ammo the rounds are more equal. Still carrying my +p+ .45 though

    • @nuclearkamikaze
      @nuclearkamikaze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theparaminuteman In fact to drive the point home, if you’re trying to argue velocity makes a bigger difference the m1 carbine carried by paratroopers and officers was an accurate rifle but many personal accounts noted it’s lack of lethality due to its pistol caliber cartridge. It’s similarly the size of 9mm slightly smaller. Soldiers stated it required multiple rounds to stop a threat and was an insufficient marksmen rifle. Velocity isn’t always better.

    That was definitely stupid dangerous, kinda have to agree with some of the other comments here though. You did that with what looks like a plate designed to handle riles/carbines and shotguns. The weight of the carrier/plate and the fact that he isn't a small dude and was bracing for impact definitely had a effect. Obviously the average joe doesn't have body armor at all, and the ones that do quite a few have soft armor. There is totally a lesson to be learned here. .45 is great, I own a Glock 21 gen 3 and love it. It isn't a nuke though, it doesn't send you flying 3 ft like in the movies, stop saying it does to people who dont know much about firearms.
