It still stung but generally no incapacitating injuries. Im trusting the technology and not testing on myself or anyone not needing it. Remember to practice body armor drills both above, and below any protection that an adversary may be wearing. No sense in firing into their vest, as we can see.
If anything the hard plate enhances the evidence against the claim, because it denies energy loss through penetrative means and forces it all to be converted to blunt trauma. The bullet would have less "knock down power" if it actually went through the chest.
@Lickma Balls Knock down power when reffering to the .45 ACP is in regards to the level of hydrostatic shock the bullet emparts on the body "AFTER" penetration. Heavy round moving slower through the body creates a huge gaping cavity, and the displaced fluid makes you're BP momentarrelly shit itself, and you can near instantly pass out unless you are on some crazy drugs. This is a matter of physics, and with armor on, a hard plate that dosn't deform into the wearer at that, a bullet can not penetrate soft tissue or displace enough matter to make a person go into shock and collapse, IE get knocked down. .45 just like any other heavy round with enough mass and ass behind it can seriosly fuck someone's day up, if you are not wearing armor. Source I'm a combat medic and own lots of guns.
Yeah, imagine if he was wearing soft body armor. Would probably have broken a rib or something. 45 acp is no slouch, crazy how it can do that with hard armor
Firstly, the trust and courage displayed are commendable. However plates are designed to decelerate bullets through fracture and disperse the kinetic energy transfer. Human tissue behaves differently.
It's worth noting that most people shot suddenly with .45 ACP aren't wearing professional body armor. If he was just wearing a t-shirt, there's your "Knockdown Power".
Either. Both. It’s good for people to see though. Bullets don’t just knock people over. People collapse from having holes pierced through vital organs and structures.
I'm so glad you did this one. For so many years I've been hearing about the tremendous knockdown power of the .45 automatic. I've heard it from presumably knowledgeable gun people. So now we know. Thanks.
It’s cause of the time, it’s stopping power back then probably wasn’t achievable on a pistol and nowadays you’ve got revolver rounds out performing 45.
Think about Newton's laws of motion. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That means that the recoil force you feel on your hand is about equal to the force that is felt when the bullet strikes. Not even a shotgun would knock you down unless you're off balance or it hits your lower leg as you're stepping.
Those plates (if they're Marine plates) are meant to stop rifle rounds traveling at a much higher velocity. The fact it stopped a pistol round is expected
Because this isnt even the meaning of knockdown power, and its with armor on. His ass would be knocked over with no armor cause he just got a slug in the chest 😂. Knockdown power is the same as stopping power, which with pistol rounds only magnums really have impressive stopping power. But a .45 still isnt a slouch by any means
Defying the odds? You realize they shot a hard playe with a pistol round The odds are entirely in their favor so they didn't really even take a chance with this anyone who knows anything about body armor would know its a guaranteed the round wouldn't penetrate Honestly it's about as much of a bet as "if you stand in the rain you'll get wet" Are you literally stupid?

Simple physics, really. If the bullet was going to knock down the person being shot, then the shooter would not be able to hold onto the gun (or it would knock him down).
@@66smithra - Gone Down, maybe, but not knocked down. Impact would be less of a shove than your shoulder feels (same force, smaller area). People have taken 12 ga slugs and shown no reaction (unless/until central nervous system was hit). Again, basic physics.
@@CeltKnight quite wrong. The recoil forces have to work through the weight of the gun and they would be focused on the butt of the gun. The target on the other end doesn’t have the weight of the gun to blunt the force, and the force is concentrated on the tip of the bullet, which is much smaller than the butt of the gun. You can calculate energy foot lbs of the recoil and of the projectile. Hint: the recoil force is always lower.
@@CeltKnight okay buddy. You were about a factor of 10 off from your assessment of shoulder force vs target force. You should probably review that and then come back with another hypothesis. Shoot someone at close range with buck shot or something that won’t zip through soft tissue and get back to me. The force on target is MUCH greater than that on your shoulder.

Some years ago I saw a video of a police officer shot in the chest at point blank range with a.45. He turned around away from the gunman and took one step and fell to the ground. Ask any military person who has seen combat and they will tell you that no one is knocked down by a rifle shot. I have heard that body reflexes can make it look like someone is knocked down when shot, but I don’t know if that is true.
Wrong. Just look at the arm of the guy that Kyle Rittenhouse shot. .556 has plenty of energy transfer and it has way more energy than .45 acp. and that is considered an intermediate cartridge. 308. and other real rifle cartridges will stop someone no matter where you hit them. According to the algorithm for Taylor knock out factor, speed matters just as much as weight and bullet diameter in stopping power. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_knock-out_factor I dunno what military people you are talking to but I would suspect them of stolen valor or being POG's.
@@Sgtassburgler I’m not saying getting hit by a bullet will not stop you or bring you down, I’m saying that you will not be knocked down. One of the military combat veterans I talked to was a marine in Vietnam and saw a lot of action. He told me and other combat veterans will tell you that men shot in combat fall where they stand. My friend was talking to a buddy in Nam when the man was hit in the forehead by a Viet Kong sniper by a high velocity rifle bullet. He fell to the ground in front of my friend. They all fall to the ground when hit and are not knocked around. An old friend of mine was in France in WW2, shot and captured by the Germans, and he saw a man hit by an artillery shell running across the battle field and he fell to the ground after taking a couple of steps without his head. I’m talking about being taken down, I’m talking about being not knocked down by any bullet going through a hand or arm or leg, head, or body. The ones who saw combat don’t talk about these things until you ask them. Once they answer your questions they don’t continue talking about it. Talk to some of the vets who saw hard core combat and ask them about solders being knocked around by being hit in the hand or arm. I read the article you referenced and it is about knocking an animal out, not about knocking them down. There have been a number of gun magazines over the years with articles on knock down power, even the American Rifleman, and they all said people are not knocked down by being shot. I was shown films of combat when in the Army and no one on the battlefield was knocked down when hit, they just fell, some dead before hitting the ground.

I was going to say "To see the actual "knockdown power" try it without the vest", but you would probably do that so I'm not going to suggest it.
This pistol in the video is a .380 ACP
Big dumby. I like how hyped he was with those little arms
You can get away with stuff like this for a while but, sooner or later, you're going to regret defying the odds.
Defying the odds?
You realize they shot a hard playe with a pistol round
The odds are entirely in their favor so they didn't really even take a chance with this anyone who knows anything about body armor would know its a guaranteed the round wouldn't penetrate
Honestly it's about as much of a bet as "if you stand in the rain you'll get wet"

45 acp is a large slow bullet… will be stopped by most any body armor. Also… if by some chance it would’ve gone through anfmd the buddy died… the state would take away your license to carry and probably put you i prison for at least a year

Simple physics, really. If the bullet was going to knock down the person being shot, then the shooter would not be able to hold onto the gun (or it would knock him down).
I can hold onto a 458 Win Mag when I shoot it. I GUARANTEE you he would have gone down from being shot with one.
@@66smithra - Yet still no bullet made will knock anyone down. I don't know how many people you've seen shot but .. just no.
Good thing he’s got his safety glasses on.

Now that is what I call "Crazy Brave". Won that bet. Guys that that fella have determination. The world is not lost yet. Things go bad, this is a guy you need very bad on your side..
According to the algorithm for Taylor knock out factor, speed matters just as much as weight and bullet diameter in stopping power. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_knock-out_factor
I dunno what military people you are talking to but I would suspect them of stolen valor or being POG's.
This video plays in my head from time to time

The real question should be, why not?
