Everyone ought to realize that in order for any projectile to exert the amount of force needed to knock a person off their feet, it’d have to exert that same amount of force rearwards, meaning if the recoil isn’t capable of knocking the shooter down, it’s not going to knock the recipient down either. Note that I’m talking purely about physics here and not the “psychological fall” people sometimes do when wounded as a stress response.

.45 knockdown power has nothing to do with knocking people down in flak vests like ducks in a game. Of course we’re dealing with to people who decide to shoot or be shot over a bet, chances words like hydrostatic shock are just like noises to a dog.

Its subsonic, I dont know why anyone believes that term. I think people originally said it had knockdown power because it killed people though, but pretty much any modern cartridge does the exact same thing. I guess in a time when a .22lr was the weapon of choice, a .45ACP eas maddening.

knock down power is from the CNS getting shut down. It's real, it's more likely with large calibers, but it's not exactly something a round could be developed around efficiently given all the factors.
