You know someone's spent too long in front of a computer screen when they start referring to grass as "green ground" :)

This felt like Bob Ross was talking me through a color grade. Thanks for sharing the video Casey. Cheers!

Again a really great video! Do you have any tips on grading footage shot with a nonprofessional camera (in particular a GoPro) where there is no color profile available?

When would you use Timeline level grading vs group post clip?

Hi Casey. I've learned a lot from your videos ever since I started with Davinci Resolve. I'm planning a credits video for my channel where I would like to mention you. I have two questions: would you be ok with that and - if yes - could I use some short snippets of your videos in there?

Please can someone out there make a process on how to grade Canon HDR PQ? I stopped using LOG3 because of the noise in the shadows, HDR PQ looks so much cleaner, but it's tricky to get the colours right and I'm fed up with guessing. Canon only give you LUTS for LOG1/2/3 nothing for their PQ. I've been using ST2085 2100 gamma colour space transforms as it's fairly close but I still have to spend ages playing with the input HDR dials to tone map. Then Reds always look a bit flat for some reason until I boost them and overall saturation needs boosting.

Okay, I am not new to color grading or Resolve but still wonder why some choices are made and consider that I couldn't get a straight answer to this, even from Daria at BMD.
First - your Davinc Color set up.- I have asked BMD why Resolve defaults to Rec709 (scene ) which has a gamma of the camera transfer function of 1.95 or so. Which the only even close to an acceptable answer is that rec709(scene ) represents the camera footage and in a display referred grading session, having the original camera gamma would be a logical starting point. So as a person making video tutorials it would seem that you would research that and tell people why something is set, rather than just accept the illogical.
Then we go to the CST - which again - the gamma choice of Rec709 - Rec. 709 specifies a non-linear OETF (opto-electrical transfer function) which is known as the "camera gamma" so with all the gamma shift problems out there - using a CST with that gamma choice is confusing when it is output to gamma 2.4.
I would bet that there are a lot of your viewers asking about gamma shifts and washed out colors etc. The color management with gammas all over the place and inconsistent color management is the start of a mess that then gets even messier when using a Mac when Colorsync won't read the 1-2-1 tag as rec709 gamma 2.4
This part of teaching people needs to be consistent in my opinion. Resolve defaults are partly to blame. They should actually be able to explain why and document as to "why". Like things aren't confusing enough that I can ask the head of BMD, and he can't easily say why.

Forgot to set your Timeline Color Space to RWG/RedLog3G10 in the project settings in case you want to use the HDR Palette or Color Warper or change the color space/gamma of a node!

Excellent point. I just looked up RED's suggestion for grading in Resolve, and it matched your suggestion. Good call.

2:04 wait why would you leave the timeline color space at Rec709? So you transformed the Red Footage into Rec709 and graded there? Is there a reason to do this over RED -> CST In -> wide gamut (grading here) -> CST out -> Rec709?

Nothing mentioned here works for me, 709 in Davinci RED RAW sucks, Color Space Transform sucks! I can get much much better results in Premiere pro basically doing nothing..... I can't believe this seriously..... so frustrating
