    Herrings are also very, very popular in Poland. Pickled herrings and fried fish are a must for Christmas Eve dinner when we eat fish instead of meat.

    How long do they last in the fridge after being pickled like this? When I hear of pickled herring I think of surstromming, so I'm glad there is a milder version.

    • @AllasYummyFood
      @AllasYummyFood  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrCurry i think they will last several days, if you not using them i would keep them in salty water. But they will become more salty as well. This is a really mild version!

    Hello alla, I've been wondering if you've considered demonstrating how to make scalded sourdough rye bread like they make in Lithuania? I think the bread is similar to one's in Latvia, Estonia, and the Russian Borodinsky bread.

    Thanks for the video. So, at the end, is what you got, exactly the same thing that we buy from supermarkets (usually VICI brand)? Namely herring in oil?

    • @AllasYummyFood
      @AllasYummyFood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, exactly, but healthier version, as they do add more stuff to the processed ones!

      @@AllasYummyFood No doubt that its healthier.... Home made, no preservatives, no chemicals... So after preparing this your way, can I keep it for a longer period in olive oil, without going bad? One more question :) Can I use this recipe for sardines as well? Thank you very much......

    I found a big tub of salted herring in my local Polish shop and decided to pickle it overnight. I'm craving pickled herring but it will have to wait until this time tomorrow. I also added dill, a few cloves and one chopped up birdseye chilli. It should be good. I wish I had some sour dough bread to put it on. Maybe, once I've poured off the pickle juice, I'll add some sour cream.
