  • These are the deleted scenes from The Birdcage which aired on ABC and a few other channels between 1999 and the early 2000s, and have never been released anywhere. A few are kind of boring but several are very interesting, particularly Albert getting the cake and the dinner scene. Those two were on youtube already, as well as the very first one, but none of the others are. Enjoy!

    Would love to see an extended director’s cut of this film.

      If you look closely, he can be seen among the wedding guests at the very end, but I think that's all that remains of his role in the theatrical cut.

      What a STUPID comment, I lost brain cells reading it. Leave this innocent movie alone. Today the "parents" would be trans and 200 different genders throughout the movie, not an innocent gay couple.

    EXCELLENT SCENES

  • @gabe_s_videos
    @gabe_s_videos ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's a good thing all of these scenes were cut. They're perfectly good on their own, but they'd weight down the whole movie. However, the one of Val practicing how to say "This is my mother" strikes me as particularly interesting.
    For one, I'm assuming this was supposed to set up the scene where he pulls off Albert's wig and says "This is my mother." If so, it's a great setup and payoff, but also kind of redundant. The scene is extremely meaningful without the setup because it's about Val accepting that Albert always has been his mother, not finding a mother figure in Albert.
    For another, it made me realize that, barring these deleted scenes, we NEVER see the movie from Val's perspective. The whole movie is about the people who's lives are turned upside down by what he does, but none of it affects him, personally, aside from getting him what he and he alone wants. He's basically a chaotic neutral MacGuffen.

    These weren't deleted by ABC, they didn't even appear in the theatrical release. I think it has something to do with the movie being shot with professional film cameras and these scenes were filmed with a rotting potato.

      It was aired on ABC in the nineties, copied onto vhs in LP or SLP, sat in a drawer for 25 years and then someone had to find a still working vcr and analog capture device to be able to put it on TH-cam. The quality actually isn't that bad save for the tape hiss.
