Drinker's Chasers - Rings of Power Season 2 Rumours: Delays, Reshoots And Panic

- All is not well at Amazon Studios if the latest batch of rumours are to be believed. Panic, frantic rewrites and demotions seem to be the order of the day as the studio struggles to bounce back from the disaster of Season 1. Can this show possibly be salvaged or is it too late?

I'm just going to pretend season 2 doesn't exist, just like season 1.
It’s for the best
I cannot wait. It will be comedy gold!!
Someone else can watch it and tell me how bad it sucked.
My impression on hearing season 1 was that it would suck and sure enough, plenty of other people watched it and said it was like staring into the sun while being kicked repeatedly in the feels. Given the type of people making this kind of crap also have a predilection for dying on their mountain of turds regardless of how much of other people's money they spend, there's basically no chance of them doing a 180 and not making it completely awful.
Same
Just like the starwars sequel trilogy. It simply doesn’t exist
Understandable. They have to progress Galadriel's arc, but they can't figure out how to make her more insufferable.
I doubt that. They always know how to make bad characters worse

Tax write off. They can show a loss and depreciate the asset.
One of the things I read that was kinda conspiracy theory but also kinda sorta works is that Disney doesn't really care how their IP performs. Disney doesn't make the lions share of their money off films anymore. What Disney cares about is having an asset they can mark down as taking a loss come tax season. If Star Wars or whatever makes money, great. If it doesn't that works too since they can depreciate off the buy price to cover some of their overall corporate tax burden. They either want a gigantic hit or a gigantic flop. Either works for their purposes. It's middle of the road which hurts them.
That idea works just as well for Amazon. They want something which gives them value which can't be easily quantified in dollars and cents but will absolutely take a loss monetarily.
Apple and Netflix started spending on prestige. There's no easy metric of what an Oscar or a Golden Globe is worth. But they'll take losses on some productions as it gives them a different type of cultural relevance. And importantly, cultural relevance they can write off as a loss so it doesn't actually cost them as much as it looks like on the actual balance sheet to gain it.
This is the only explanation at this point for Disney as well; there is no way the shareholders are fine with the company losing billions of dollars every year post-Endgame, and never changing a thing and doubling down on the division, shameless pandering, and political grandstanding, without there being some kind of hidden laundering operation coming off the top. Every one of these movies that costs 150, 250, 300+ million to make, and then supposedly costs another 200-300 million in marketing/advertising? I mean sure the sets are known to have ridiculous overpriced catering every day and obscene benefits and therapy and other bull to keep these modern *ahem* actors in their safe spaces, but still, that's a TON of money that gets spent every single time, for them to just make 300-400 million (if that) and write it off as a loss...
Literally any other part of the American economy no matter what sector, if the project directors and middle managers and even board members were okaying this level of capital loss and over-spending they'd have been fired back when the movies barely broke even, and they would have been blacklisted from the industry for demanding 300 million plus 200 mill for advertising to make a movie and then have it completely flop, costing them half a billion dollars or close to it. Now, though, it's normal for companies as large as Disney?
If someone told me that Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy and a few others were skimming 10, 20, 50 even 100 million off the top of every one of these bloated movies and especially Disney+ shows that cost tens to almost a hundred million PER EPISODE, I would merely say 'water is wet' at this point.

Rings of Power reminds me of a rave i promoted once. The guys wanted 10k people to come to the rave. Someone told them some age-old truth: “only 10% of the people who see your advert will purchase the product.” So along those lines, they made 150k flyers for the show. A huge flyer, 4x bigger than normal flyers, glossy and colorful. Two issues: 1) the lineup was terrible. It combined techno and hip-hop, meaning it was a shitty rave and a shitty hip-hop concert for 4x the cost of a normal show. 2) the venue was ina. Small town at an ampitheater during the day…
They needed 5k people to come to break even. 1500 people bought tickets. Even though we handed out over 100,000 flyers 😂 we tried to warn them the whole time that no one was going to come to this show, and they didnt listen. TLDR it doesnt matter what u spend on advertising and what $ amount u invest if the thing youre investing is is terrible 😂
Shet moves for a shet show 😄
I worked security at a concert for some band that was being pushed to try and make him famous. He was booked at a rather "local famous" venue that is kinda smallish but has hosted tons of famous acts.
They spent a fortune and hit up all the local radio stations. Paid for tons of social media stuff and even did some publicity stunts.
The venue could hold a few thousand people. 57 showed up. Some of the people were long time regulars that have special access and come to EVERY event, have attended nearly every event since like the 80's.
You can't always manufacturer success.

you mean being some kind of woke vehicle that would completely negate the original canon?
@@NoahGooder a bit less woke would've been worse. A mix of real lore and messages for the "modern audience". RoP was just woke nonsense, boring plots with at most 1% Tolkien lore. No chance of confusing Tolkien with this Amazon crap.
I've already heard when the first Jackson films came out that he fixed Tolkiens mistakes. Hearing younger people tell me how Arwen being a badass and Gimli being funny was great. Tolkien was "too serious" and "didn't empower women" was the reasoning behind that. There was more, but this is what you're saying. on female power and destroying lore. Cannot wait for more girl boss moments and black elves!
The girl boss moments wouldn't have been so bad if they ACTUALLY set it up properly. As in perhaps show her being trained by a legendary Elven swordsman (or woman), or spend decades (or her entire teenage years) perfecting her hunting/tracking or archery skills, perhaps as part of an Elven party trying to hunt down a threat in the forest or group protecting their homes from Orcs like those scenes where we saw the Elves encountering intruders in their territory (anything to show why she would be suitable for leadership as commander of the Elven army) - you know, set up WHY a character is as good as they are, since the show hasn't exactly shown us WHY she's the commander, and her hot temper seems contrary to the type of person you would give your ENTIRE army to? Any commander with a temper would be kind of framing that you'd give to a failure or potential disaster/tragedy waiting to happen, and if you consider that she spent QUITE some time as a commander of the army, you would have thought that she'd understand the morale and chain of command issues you would have if any soldier went off on his/her superiors because he/she disagreed with them?!?
The black elf thing the audience could have gotten behind if the people who introduced the character ACTUALLY knew the lore of the property they are SUPPOSED to be writing for, or the showrunners CLAIMED to be familiar with. Tolkien DID indicate there were OTHER cultures on Middle-Earth, and any half-way decent writer could have dipped into those cultures to set up diverse groups of people, or characters in scenarios that totally make sense. Also, the defenders are being hypocrites when they say "why not have diverse characters here", because both Game of Thrones AND Wheel of Time had other minority cultures and there were ZERO calls for diversity there.
Wheel of time season 2 wasnt any better. Wheel of time season 1 was the harbinger of doom for rings of power.
@@sigmacademyhaving her train with say Fingolfin would've been an idea (not Feanor she hated him). Bonus points if they show how badass Fingolfin was by fighting Morgoth 1v1
What I find to be the most insanely idiotic thing about RoP is that Amazon had a third option between direct adaptation and completely original story, and it's to simply combine the two. Have a faithful adaptation of the events but have that run in the background parallel to the main story, which is original with original characters.
This was their best option given what limited rights they had, and while it wouldn't appease the core fandom as much as a direct adaptation, it wouldn't have completely insulted and alienated them either. That way, they could've had their stronk female she-elf protagonist, but instead of a grotesque bastardized Galadriel, it's Estrogengilad. Would still be a shit character and a horrible idea for a main protagonist, but it at the very least would sting alot less than what they actually did with Galadriel.
What's more, they could've had their dumb DEI bullshit without sacrificing the verisimilitude of Middle-Earth by simply focusing more on original characters and events instead of having to force established characters and events into the story. For instance, the two main leads could be a female Elf and a male Numenorean exile who makes a living as a mercenary. Their travels take them to Rhun and Harad, where they recruit more characters. That way, you could have a big buff black guy to play the strongman and a hot middle-eastern chick to play a sorceress (I know those are cliché, but clichés work for a reason). Toss in a Dwarf and boom, you have your discount Fellowship. Also, instead of prematurely busting a nut on Numenor, have the primary setting be a port town on the border of Middle-Earth, a precursor to Dale if you will. That way, you can have diversity that fits organically within the world and the story.
I came up with all this in roughly ten minutes. There's no reason at all for Amazon to be as incompetent as they are.
Yeah but it takes work and creative writing... Ain't nobody got time for that!
"There's no reason at all for Amazon to be as incompetent as they are."
"Evil can not create, it can only corrupt and mock what good people have created."
There is your reason.
I fully agree with your setup for a diverse group of characters. The only problem is that you'd need CAPABLE and COMPETENT writers to set all of that up, and not make anything those characters do clash (too much) with what we know of the original stories, which shouldn't be THAT hard to do in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. By maintaining the integrity of the original stories, they can STILL adapt those in the future, but by changing the lore (to their lore) too much, they immediately run the same risk (and repeats the problems of) the MCU and DC, where they changed their characters so much, that trying to integrate other stories into it becomes increasingly more difficult to keep internal consistency straight or use anything that might clash with their "new lore", which leads to the "new world" becoming more absurd and inconsistent as time goes on, whereas staying with the original stories' framework, allows a writer to know exactly what opportunities exist and where new lore can be innovated or added to already available information, in ways that make sense and seems as if it could potentially fit into this world and universe.
Also, while I can't prove it, I suspect the changing of lore is simply for financial reasons, while at the same time serving political and ideological goals. The company that creates "this version" of Middle-Earth, will of course gain access to monetizing said characters (original), so of course they will attempt to try and change as much as possible to maximize their revenue potential, as they simply sees this property as "product" to be sold, and nothing more. That strategy, however, only works when you have a hit series or movie on your hands, which they don't, regardless of how badly some people want to pretend the first season was some kind of success.
I'm sorry, but you have already grossly overestimated the people you are talking about. There's NO WAY they're having a man who is stronger and more powerful than a woman. If they have a warrior, it's totally going to have to be a GIRLBOSS. Frankly, I doubt they can allow a man to be smarter than a woman either, so they'd want a GIRLBOSS sorcerer, as well. They'll both be black and almost certainly lesbian, but they'll have an incompetent, foolish man along who is totally white. NOW you're talking about something they would green-light.
The only thing I disagree with you on, is that they could definitely make a compelling and faithful adaptation even with the limited rights they have. I can recommend the series "How Rings of Power should have been written" by Tolkien Untangled. That guy tells an incredible story, while sticking to the rights Amazon has.
Is Amazon going to threaten those who leave reviews that they don’t like (anything negative regardless of how well written), like they did to AZ?
They can't make a competent villain. They cast a man as Sauron, and men aren't allowed to be competent so he'll be a buffoon who's allowed to deal only with buffoonier (male) characters. If they cast a woman as Sauron, women aren't allowed to be bad, so whatever Sauronette is up to has to be watered down and explained and justified and there will be a redemption anyway.
Male Sauron: Incompetent villain.
Female Sauron: Not really a villain.
"What is dead may never die."
They can reshoot all they want. The end product will inevitably SUCK.
I heard they got the sea to write the second season; it's always right after all.
I don't care what they do. They already made the worst mistake they could have, by legitimately shipping Galadriel with Sauron. That was just one issue, not even the full scope, but it was the most egregious. It's the complete opposite of the lore. These idiots don't care about the story and I don't care about them. I hope season two crashes and burns so I can roast marshmallows on the burning remains.
I'd like to think that since the Elven rings of power were already made, she used manipulation (bullying) or straight up threatened the old grandma aka Celebrimbor into giving her the one elven ring that was heavily Mithril. 😆😆
Yes. Everytime I see fanvideos shipping Sauron x Galadriel....I really cringe so hard. To be fair, Galadriel is more like Sauron in ROP and Sauron looks like a human simp. They belong to each other...just in a twisted way.😂

To admit that season 1 was a mistake, that what they were going for simply wasn’t working out and that they have learned their lesson and will use it to improve the show and to maybe even start the show over entirely with new actors.
Now, do I honestly think that they will do this? No, not even a little. I am a lot of things but a naive fool I am not.
It would need to be completely recast, as well, since the actors in season one went out of their way to repeatedly disparage the fans. They should be relegated to laxative commercials for the rest of their careers.
Unfortunately they will continue to brazen their way through lie after lie. They couldn’t admit their failure. They had to gaslight *everyone* who said a bad thing about it.
Nerd of the Rings did a video reacting to rumored season 2 plot points. I was afraid he was going to be apoplectic by the end of the video. They are just rumors, but don't underestimate Amazon's commitment to "the message."
The problem with the defenders of the show is that they KNOW it's bad and doesn't represent ANYTHING of the lore they made a pretty penny off, and they don't care, because they need new content for their channels. That's how you know they're not real fans - they are fans of the "franchise" (where they think the money and opportunity is), not the property (where it has ALWAYS been). They are "fans" of anything they can make money from, and any true fan would have NEVER taken the position they did.

Yeah. The making of the three elven rings happened so fast and instead the audience were forced to follow Guyladriel in his revenge quest for one whole season.
How to make Galadriel to the most hated Noldor elf ever.......second try. 😅
They would have to show Galadriel's trust in her own military "prowess" fail her in a dramatic fashion, sending her down the path to gaining magical power so that she can one day become the character we see in the LotR films. But The Message doesn't allow for strong, independent women to fail, soooo that's not going to happen.
Just shows that throwing millions of money at a project won't make a difference if the writing is poor. Writing is the foundation of any story - the story arc, the characters, the dialogue, the world building - and if that's garbage, as it was in RoP, it will sink the rest of the production regardless of big budget. This is what happens when people are hired based on identity and not talent.
Godzilla minus one is eloquent proof of that, a $15 million dollar budget and it's so much better than 90% of other films.
You can’t money launder without millions of dollars

"Tech Support Sauron..." So perfectly described. 😆
I know from certain who individuals who have connections to the show that it was a nightmare behind the scenes. people were fired left and right, writers couldn't agree what story they wanted to tell, the show was originally about a young Aragorn, some wanted to adapt the Silmarillion but didn't have the adaption rights to the book, the Tolkien estate giving them a long list of things they could and couldn't do on the show such as referencing the movies (even though the showrunners wanted to connect ROP to the movies) writers being fired because they wanted to insert more woke elemets into the show and was met with disapproval, Tolkien selling out to Bezos on his tantalizing and money venture in making LOTR into the next Game of Thrones (which we all know how highly successful that was) a Tolkien scholar being fired, COVID19 impacting everything, the originally being 10 episodes but somewhere being changed to 8 instead, Jeff Bezos allegedly visiting the set and was furious on what he saw and demanded changes to be made in the middle of shooting. All in all, this show was produced with everyone's hands tied behind their backs, not really knowing what they wanted to do and the clock was ticking, and the best they could come up with was fan fiction.
Now the big rumor for season 2 is that Sauron had a son thus making him human and exploring his humanity. When that has nothing to do with that character at all
Tell us more plz and more details. Thank you.
The young Aragorn story was a different show runner entirely. That was nixed early by the woman over Amazon productions. I do believe it was them that did the work with the estate to get the rights which makes that doubly bad. Everyone knew it was going to be crap when they got rid of the renowned expert. Bezos should have been mad. He still should be.
The Harfoot’s, Gandalf meteor, Galadriel swimming entire ocean and surviving pyroclastic flow, volcano with a sword for a key and mithril jewelry stops elf cancer. It’s all just one big meme for people that know anything about LotR.
A friend of mine is in season 2. They were changing the script dramatically halfway through his 2 weeks filming. The whole first week was a write off, the information the character had was totally different now. The actors had no idea about big picture, because it wasn't there. They did their scenes, often in multiple ways, completely contrary to each other, and left. That's where the money is going. And heaven help the editors.
Even her hair in this thumbnail is just so hurtful man, the ethereal hairs of Galadriel and this psycho's hair. Daamn.
You know everything you need to know about RoP with one simple fact: Production on the show started in earnest immediately after Christopher Tolkien passed away.
I can't wait for the love quadrangle between the three sauron and guyladriel. That will win so much
Battle at the end? Good job!
CG yes...the cheeto generator really amped up the realism.
That show was so phoned in, it made me wish I could forget that I'd ever heard of it. What....a.....turd.
I forgot about the statistics regarding viewer completion of the series - I forget what they were, but they were awful for modern television viewers completing the series. They briefly mentioned this around 8 minute mark...
I'm going to pretend RoP ended at the end of season 1 while simultaneously pretending season 1 doesn't exist. That's how bad it was.
Apathy is the only proper response. A view is a view so absolutely don’t hate watch this!
Amazing that the Wikipedia entry for Rings of Power only reports the positive Rotten Tomatoes score with no mention of the legions of backlash. Lies abound.
It’s laughable that people today think the Jackson films are super faithful to the lore- reality is that Jackson’s team made a number of departures from the books and many were as lore breaking as stuff in RoP.
The difference is, Jackson successfully captured the spirit of the story and stayed faithful to the themes and the overall quality of his trilogy was so good that people are more willing to overlook the difference and appreciate the films on their own.
ROP does not have that, I would argue more due to the overall quality than specific lore departures
_"You have not seen what i have seen"_ 😶🌫️😤😤
Critical Doggo would have brought more to this panel than Mr Brown did.
Or they could, now hear me out…..
NOT MAKE IT! 🤨
RoP S1 taught me a valuable lesson: there's a limit to how much I can yell at the TV.
I cant wait for s2 just becouse of your reactions and videos🙏🏼
"Consulting producers"? What advice could they give that anyone would possibly want to hear? How to fail despite being given every opportunity to succeed? 🤷♂️
Whenever you think you’ve seen the worst Hollywood can do, that they cannot sink any lower… have patience.
Looking forward to season 2 of rings of cringe
Here in the US Amazon is running ads during NFL playoffs for Prime Video. None of the ads even show RoP as a show to get people to subscribe. I think that tells you all you know about what Amazon corporate thinks of the appeal of RoP.
"Galdriel would you rather be pretty or smart" -
"Oh pretty... i can fake being smart'
Long live the Despot!!
No matter what they do, people can't unsee the first season.
"Should reflect the world we live in today". Notice how the showrunners don't mention that Tolkien himself said that he made Lord of the Rings in order to revitalize European mythology.
I think, politics aside, the difference between Rings of Power and House of the Dragon really boils down to one thing: Attitudes.
House of the Dragon knew they would have to EARN the accolades of the fanbase, and Rings of Power felt they were OWED accolades by the fanbase because they were doing us a favor.
Looking pretty dapper drinker
"House of the Dragon" has characters with significant flaws. "Rings of Power" also has characters with significant flaws, but doesn't recognize it. And seems downright offended that anyone should suggest those characters have flaws while they're busy being "representative".
I just don't think many people care about stories or TV design. They care about having that live action "Ahsoka vs. Anakin" clip they can rewatch over and over on YT
