Weta set dressers: "Wouldn't be very true to Tolkien to go crashing about like a bull in a china shop, would it?" Amazon: "We don't do that here." [revs chainsaw]
The sad thing is, if you knew nothing of Tolkein and your first exposure to him was rings of power, you would not only not be impressed, you would have no idea of the scope of his work.
My favourite part of season 1 of The Rings of Power was when Galadriel yelled 'give it to me raw!' and then Netflix's Cleopatra scissored her mount doom.
Personally, mine was when she yet again yelled "give it to me raw" and then Sauron used protection. Second favorite when was she went twerking on him in response.
5:30 For those that didn't catch it, the scenes in the Lord of the Rings movies where they show orcs cutting down the forest, it was all the same tree. They shot it from multiple different angles so they could cut it up to look as if many trees were being felled, but if you watch it carefully, it's just the one tree.
For pretending nothing should be destroyed, we seen one tree on camera how many other takes were not good enough for the tripe they claimed would top Tolkien. How many massive old trees were ripped down to make room for their crap sets,..... that is horrible. Amazing billions lost is not enough of what Amazon deserves for all of this.
I don't want this show canceled. I want it to do the full walk of shame, blow all its budget on unwatchable crap that gets endlessly dog piled. I don't want Amazon to be able to quietly walk away from this disaster.
Rings of Power is turning out to be like a final boss, who you think you've finally destroyed, only to find out there's two more stages and your health is on the edge.
Publicly showing my support for Bobo and Captain Pickles, Who are far more qualified than any other current writer in Hollywood. Thanks N for recognizing their relative talent
They were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of mount Prime, the dark lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into the show he poured his money, his greed. And his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.
Well the Jackson 3 LOR I my all time fav movies. The Hobbits were meh - for a reason, Jackson had much less material to work with from Tolkien and it was written for kids - only one book. So the writing for the Hobbits trilogy was also not always that good.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 When I saw a breakdown of the whole situation, I started cutting The Hobbit trilogy a lot more slack. Jackson wasn't even supposed to direct it but was brought it to save the entire project when it was in danger of being shut down before filming. He had a couple of weeks to cobble something together and start filming things. All in all it would probably have been better to just let it go and not even try, but I can forgive him and others trying to accomplish something without adequate preperation and it failing.
To be fair, you could make a decent 2h, 3h film. Hell, I'm pretty sure you can find decent fan cuts. Maybe even fix up the frame rate and lighting, although it never bothered me.
@@matthewmosier8439 yes agreed - and I watched it only 2 times, I might give it a chance again, don't ask me how many times I watched LOR - 3 - from Jackson at that time including the making off... :)
every time i see anything with Cate Blanchett from LOTR i get goosebumps. she IS Galadriel and her voice is just soooooo on point. its scary to me .. i love her
I agree with you. The PJ LotR trilogy has so many great characters. Back when movies were good. It’s so sad how 80% of all movies and tv now sucks because it’s has too much “Woke” bullshit. Get woke, go broke. 😂
The reasons we want it canceled is because one it disrespects Tolkiens legacy and two much like 99% of everything coming out of hollywood it has no heart.
No - the reason was that the outrage machine made a lot of money before the show was released. I saw the series, I liked it, there was no disrespect for Tolkien. I am sure he would have liked it a lot seeing it. If he could.
All that we’re seeing today it has restored my faith in justice. It’s true what they say about evil being a self destructive force and that even if for years it slips by unnoticed, even if innocents suffer terribly the core human principles that are meant to drive us come back and take their toll on those who have done wrong. They know it’s no way of living and are all trying to make what little time they have last. They know it deep down, their instinct tells them. Like the dog who tore the paper roll. Life is good man don’t let the bad corrupt you
Not knowing much about it, I was genuinely happy to start watching the Rings of Power. I dipped out after episode 2. Looking through TH-cam to see if I was the only one whose soul had been sucked out by the sheer atrocity of what I had seen, I found Nerdrotic. And ever since I’ve been a subscriber :)
As a horse owner, I'm glad you included the horse in your list. Horses should not be dying on movie/TV sets. They should not be being worked that hard--there's no reason for it.
I love to shit on the Rings of power but we dont know if they mistreated the horse. Cardiac arrest can happen without mistreatment when a horse is doing activities.
@@rocksmo3384Horses are entirely capable of dropping dead from eating the wrong flavour grass. Wife has horses... basically 1/2 a ton of stupidity and nerves bred specifically to keep vets in business 😂
@@rocksmo3384 Yeah, just like humans, animals can literally just drop dead from heart or brain problems out of nowhere without any kind of mistreatment or overexercise. The poor horse dying I take more as some kind of cosmic warning that they should quit while they're ahead rather than they mistreated the horse, lol. True eh, oh well, in the end this show for Amazon doesn't even matter, because Warner Bros as the rights now to do more Movies and some TV stuff for Lord of the Rings again. Doubt anyone will even remember this show in a few years time.
On a positive note . Andy Serkis narrating Lord Of The Rings is the best thing I’ve ever listened to . I’m in absolute bits after the Ride of The Rohirrim . Obviously The Lord Of The Rings is my favourite book but he has made it better . I cannot recommend enough . Better than Star Wars, better than The Shining , better than reading A Tale of Two Cities . When I finish , I’m going to listen again . Unbelievably wonderfully , one of the greatest joys of my life ❤
7) If you ask me, the horse is the lucky one. 6) Doesn't matter if he wins or loses; just the fact that this lawsuit exists is pure gold. 5) Insurance fraud? Not trusting Amazon on this... 4) This is just aggravating on so many levels. Amongst other things it's hypocritical, given how much emphasis they put on the one tree being felled in season 1. 3) Frankly, after season 1 I doubt this show can be turned around anyway. If anything, this would be an interesting experiment for hate-watchers. 2) Well, at least that'll speed up her inevitable downfall. 1) All-female directing team = new shield for Amazon to hide behind. This is gonna be Webber's go-to excuse throughout season 2's run.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 The New Zealand locations are breathtaking, and that’s none to the credit of the production. Gary’s noted that Bad Robot-aligned productions will typically shoot “cool-looking” scenes- even if they require a complete plot detour- for the express purpose of putting them in a trailer or sizzle reel.
Amazon truly missed the mark with Rings Of Power. Whether you enjoyed this season or not it does not compare whatsoever to the Peter Jackson trilogy. And my GOD, I UNDERSTAND THAT IT MUST BE INCREDBILY DIFFICULT TO CREATE AN ADAPTATION OF LOTR nowadays that doesn't resemble the trilogy in the slightest, but for some reason it frightened amazon so much they decided to go with a look that is not only unrecognizable if you were to put it beside peter jacksons, but it genuinely doesn't look like it'd be even close to the works of Tolkien. I'm not an expert in Tolkien's work nor do I ever want to be, but to look at Amazon's budget, and witness so much go to waste it makes you think just how unironic a mega corporation like amazon is trying to profit through the works of a guy who devoted his life to storytelling and worldbuilding along with being a professor in english which amplfied his overall finesse in writing. The world needs good storytelling, not shitty rushed projects with no complexities that are riddled with greed.
It is mind boggling. Honestly there has to be some writers out there somewhere that are really great. And Amazon technically has enough money to really search to find those gems. But instead they literally hire people who have essentially never done a serious story. I think I know why they do that though-and my thought is it’s because they don’t actually search the whole world for the very best-that instead they hire only people in their inner circle. Their buddies. Their acquaintances. If Amazon or any other major studio actually searched high and low for the most talented writers, etc. then they would find it.
I believe that they'd just rather brainwash and reprogram the audience and their respective cultures to adore this sort of crap rather than give a rat's ass about good art and good morals. They ate throwing human civilization onto the funeral pyre, for money and power. It's BEYOND DESPICABLE. This is literal treason against the human species, as well as cultural, intellectual and moral g-en-oc-ide.
@@narnia1233 I think Bezos got conned and the rest played out after that. Whatever you think of the guy and Amazon as a company, the fact is he's a very shrewd businessman who recognises the need to bring in the right people to run different parts of the business because he can't and shouldn't try to micromanage everything. He's clearly found good people to run the logistics and the cloud computing but I think the film and TV stuff is too far outside his core understanding which made him vulnerable to getting played by some smooth talking con artist who's never going to create anything good but says the right stuff. Once you get someone like that in charge they'll appoint other talentless people into senior positions who are either similar to themselves, or easy to control. This stuff happens all the time in companies where the boss or the management team get fooled by somebody who seems amazing at first and knows exactly what to say to win them over but is a complete failure in practice.
It's pronounced Barkshir. I know it's Shire in Tolkien , but that's why he was such a genius as he knew that in colloquial English you never pronounce the " e " on the end of British counties.
English is a retarded language when it comes to pronunciation anyway. To and go pronounced different. Some and numb are similar, sounding despite wildly different spellings. But home that has the same spelling as some is different sounding. It's like the first people to write down the language was an autist, no offense.
the only way they could have saved the show was to bring Peter Jackson in and make him the only one to call all the shots about this series, but no, "lets just make all directors women, that should solve the issue!". when will they learn its not about gender or race, its about talent and staying true to the fandom & lore.

As a fan of the movie business (as it could be), I'm glad this channel is here to sift through all the latest that we don't have the time (or talent) for ourselves. May fortune and good health accompany you, sir. You do good work.
I think the writer's strike should continue and people with a better level of creativity that haven't been able to break into the business should be given a shot.
I don't give a flying fig about them. They have long since stopped creating anything worth mentioning. They use other people's creations to write their shtty fanfics, based on those precious things. They don't deserve my money.
Even I, a casual Tolkien fan, understand how to make a good Middle Earth story better than entire writing/directing staff being paid millions upon millions to destroy(modernize) the lore. And I'm a moron!
I wonder tho if people like Gary, Ryan, Critical Drinker, Geeks and Gamer and endless other channels stopped watching the show to review it, would the Audience Completion Rate be drastically lower? Like below 30%?
@@Lawrence_Talbot Probably not, a lot of these channels are built on fake drama. The irony being they're are mostly hosted by people who've never written or filmed anything, besides their own rants. So who knows if they could actually do better. In the end, this is just a hobby to kill time.
I'm not trying to "toot my own horn", as it were, but I've been working a military science fiction piece for the last 17 years. That's roughly the same as Tolkien and nowhere near done, namely out of personal apprehension. I'm not bragging, mind you. After all of this work. I've only grown to appreciate Tolkien more. He was obviously more efficient in his work, and more consistent. But this has been a long, long time. When I started, I was in sixth grade in 2006. I maintained it. I fell in love with it, and expanded it dramatically. I'm now 28 and I'm still passionately working on it. I cannot fathom someone taking my work and utterly reworking to suit their personal beliefs. I would be horrified. I would be disgusted. It's my work. I built this. And I built this for my readers. I built this to be enjoyed. I want people to plow into it and have fan theories and favorite characters and so on. This has been my life's work. And now I'm terrified to publish it because of how society handles it. This series is a travesty. If Tolkien were alive, he would have lost his mind. It's such a disgusting mess of nonsense. I would be livid. I've worked so hard to build what I've built, and in the same amount of time, roughly, and I'm still not done. I cannot fathom someone warping my work to fit their stupid fucking narrative. I would come back from the grave and ruin your life for sport. So pathetic. Write your own shit. Let that be trash. Don't tack our names onto your bullshit. If my book fails, it fails. It'll be my fault. But don't ruin a beautiful literary work because you're too fucking lazy to produce your own shit.
They had absolutley everything going for them, and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I am so glad we got the 2001-2003 films. Timeless masterpieces.
And I remember the LotR fans losing it over the small changes PJ made. I bet most of them are eating it after seeing how truly awful it could have been.
Wanting Sauron to be like Walter White and the Joker at the same time is like saying you want them to be burning hot ice. Those characters are huge contradictions of each other.
I think many people will notice the strike of the guild. Because, for now, directors and producers and some actors can't blame the writers anymore for making bad and worse and worst movies. It's usually not the writers writing bad things, it's usually the crews and marketers messing things up that were written good at first. I'm a screenwriter myself, and I really could tell you about meetings with the crews that would blow even your mind. You remember the first american Godzilla movie? It was meant to be a real good vintage gojira movie (If I'm not wrong, you still can find the first draft online - it was classic gojira). But the director rejected it completely, and then the marketers got involved... don't blame the writers for the mayhem the production teams is causing.
What I found amazing is how quickly they shot season 2 of this shitshow in the UK. There's now only 11 days of filming left. Just how much is being done in post for this? I'm guessing the budget is much smaller.
Yeah, that is pretty fast. Before that number of days was released, they had said they'd be filming until July- so now it seems they will be using the next 2 months for any needed reshoots. As for post, I'd imagine there's a lot since this season isn't expected to be ready until next year. Though I wonder if Amazon is speeding things up to try to get the show out earlier. It had always been reported as being out in 2024, but one of Amazon's bigwigs, Vernon Sanders, has said he'd like it out a year after s1. Rushing things sure won't help the (lack of) quality!
@@clogs4956 Season 1 completed filming on 2 August 2021 and Amazon announced a week later that production on season 2 would be transferred to the UK. There was no overlap. Season 2 began filming in October 2022 and is due to end next week.
I wonder if the Tolkien’s offspring care about what they’ve done to their legacy… because now they will forever be viewed as people who sold out their own family for money they didn’t even need…
Well, everyone is their own person. Just because your related by blood to a great or horrible person doesn’t have to mean shit. The fact some random descendants of someone else are shitheads doesn’t surprise me at all

I have not seen 1 episode of Rings of Power.....can't believe I'm even saying that I didn't even try. And I don't think I'm alone here. Crazy they screwed it up this bad not even hard-core fans give it a chance
Mate - I am a fan, read all books - even with all what what has been written in the outrage industry - I like it - a lot. You can emerge into Tolkiens world, it's awesome. Only for pictures, landscape, architecture its worth to watch. Coming to the story arc the writing - well it was not written by Tolkien, you can see it and hear, it's sometimes poor, sometimes good. From hard core fan to hard core fan, watch it. You will not regret it.
What frustrates me is the seeming inability to counter-create LotR things to draw attention away from RoP and similar vandalism. I remember the Skyrim molders couldn’t even finish a FREE MOD without being hit with a C&D from Warner Bros. This situation with Tolkien’s masterpiece feels very much like watching a hostage being abused over a CCTV.
Little fun anecdote: One of my exes was a Skyrim/Elder Scrolls player like, to THAT point she dragged me to GameStop on release night, lel, and would play for hours before coming to bed. After having played it myself... Understandable, it's borderline hypnotic even on Vanilla. Anyway the real story: She downloaded a mod which would apparently put Bilbo's house somewhere in the game world, but as far as I know she didn't find it, at least at the time. But yeah I wonder if even those people got smacked with a potential suit just for helping their fellow nerds out for free, and with undoubtedly hundreds of hours of work.
So I usually hate woke stuff but I do t really see it this time..I mean Galadriel supposed to be a bad ass no? Hellbrand was strong, the dark elf and the sea captain all strong male leads no? The black ward was a little forced but apart from that I don’t get the criticism 💁♂️
Why PETA isn't promoting the use of coconuts over CGI animals I put down to their lack of taste. The horse dying of cardiac arrest tells me it died of heart break, not embarrassment. Were I Amazon, I would pay off the fanfic writer as a way of excusing why the writing for Season 1 was so terrible. Nice to see Amazon is following the footsteps of Sauron, stoking the forges so their sets light on fire and torching forests. Not sure it is the kind of thing Tolkien would have supported, though.
The forest in Berkshire, England, is also a national heritage site so there might be some legal issues for cutting down those trees and an international incident.
What baffles me is why some ppl didn't voice their disagreement. Like animal casaulty, destroying natural habitat in normal cases would rise a resistance. Where was it ? I have a theory that such organisation like greenpeace got a "small donation" to look away for a sceond. Also knowing those studios recent habits they would call r-cts,f-sts everyone opposing so in the end all could be in vain.
The destruction of Fangorn Forest pretty much encapsulated everything that the Fellowship was fighting against. Amazon = Saruman and they don't realise and don't care.
I actually like rings of power. Remember when Darth JarJar got killed by Yoda after the Phantom Menace? NO! BECAUSE PEOPLE FORCED THE MAN TO REWRITE HIS WORK!!!
Nice archive footage of Christopher Tolkien's explanation of his father's insight and even the foreshadowing of the future of the world. "The machine" is attempting to spoil and mock the beauty and legacy of a lore that's complex, deeply spiritual and esoteric; which has an alchemical undertone of the the growth of the soul. They did it to starwars, they Shat on the end of GOT and also any other shit sequel or bad reboot. We have to cleanse ourselves of this shit and stick to the teachings and lessons that the source material teaches. Excellent work Gary!
This is too funny. I was just in Best Buy and all the tv's there played Rings of Power at that scene she does the angry nose twitch thing. I thought I was being pranked.
The irony here is that Amazon has taken Tolkien’s work and corrupted it exactly the same way that Melkor attempted to corrupt Eric Illuvatar’s creation.
Amazon did not understand that unlike Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters or other film/television franchises the work of the Professor is written down in books and protected from idiocy and ret-conning. Just as Netflix with The Witcher for pretty much the same reason but with much more might in the fandom, they are getting kicked out of the franchise despite their huge money
Wait, a writers strike has impact on a series that has only 19 days of filming left? So even now the script isn’t complete? Why isn’t this a surprise, it’s gonna be a banger…
“If those guilds and the Alliance of motion picture and television producers fail to reach a new contract agreement…. Leading to an even more drastic industry-wide shutdown.” Does Hollyweird really think that constitutes an existential threat to the public? That’s like threatening people to take their garbage away for them….
They will continue this series despite the entire universe yelling for them to stop. They will finally get to season 5 and the final episode's total budget will be $50. EDIT: 9:00 God please! I want an entire industry shut down. I don't want Hollywood to make anything for the next decade. They have shown time and time again they are beyond creatively bankrupt.
In a rare moment of wisdom as a young[er] adult/teenager, I would occasionally flirt with the idea of just stopping all mainstream Hollywood productions for half to up to a full decade to let them recharge and come back to any semblance of glory. Similar with the music industry, but to stay on topic, yeah they are clearly tired, uninspired, basically the feeling when you've, to be crass, nutted 4 times and have nothing left, but still gotta crank out another and another beyond reason. They need to just... Stop. But these celebs, producers, executives etc. have gotten too used to the idea of ever widening profit and influence they hold over the evermore fed up masses. Their time is up. They need to go into stasis, if not just wither away. They need us. We no longer, if ever we did, need them.
Horsy commited suicide ! out of shame being associated with Amazon Prod. He was high on speed. Horsy ! You will be remembered long after Amazon Rings of Power have ceased to exist.
RoP is genuinely offensive. It shouldn’t exist and it makes a mockery of Tolkien’s amazing work. We need to make sure we kill this show and mock it into oblivion.

Peter Jackson decided that his crew had to cultivate the soil for a whole year to make the Shire more believable. ROP production decides to destroy a forest to make a season 2 of their show..
Of all the hate videos directed toward ROP, this one ranks among the most asinine. The Rings of Power season 2 is a disaster because there was a fire that delayed production for a few hours; there was a letter to the local newspaper expressing some concern about possible damage to a forest area, and-- wait for it-- some nitwit who self-published a LOTR fanfiction decided to file a frivolous lawsuit against Amazon for copyright infringement. It's hard to take the guy seriously with logic like this.
The so-called "billion dollars" is for the entire series and includes most of the infrastructure costs which would be used on other Amazon videos and film movies. So it isn't a true billion dollar cost as a lot of the expense is recouped through use of the land, buildings, facility services, studio set structures, computers, computer networks, software, and recycled set props on other shows.
If things had gone differently with the production, I would have been part of the target audience for this show. I would have signed up for Amazon Prime just to watch it, and I would have obsessed over every episode even more than I did with Game of Thrones when it was at its height. Instead, I haven't watched a single minute of Rings of Power, not even to 'hate watch', and I never will.
When Gandalf gave Frodo that inspirational speech in the Mines of Moria: “Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here.”

There's probably an eco clause in the contract somewhere, because planting trees or using CGI is so toxic masculinity.

I think we were too harsh to the Hobbit films. At least they somewhat resemble Tolkien's world.
Well the Jackson 3 LOR I my all time fav movies. The Hobbits were meh - for a reason, Jackson had much less material to work with from Tolkien and it was written for kids - only one book. So the writing for the Hobbits trilogy was also not always that good.

They might have to actually use the incredible story they bought for 250 million
We all know they'll blame the terrible final episode of S2 on the writers strike. So that's one excuse they'll have ready.
I can listen to Garry thrashing Rings of Meme all day long.
I was dreading season 2, but now I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be a fantastic laugh and the memes will be epic.
I will be good - can't wait to see it
Just comparing shots here from ROP and TLOTR, ROP really does look flat doesn't it? The lighting is atrocious, just like a TV show.
@@paulmurgatroyd6372 100% right they have the key lighting and fill lighting at the same intensity so there is no depth in people's faces. I literally could have done better
@@brightongoodwin1267 I was looking at LOTR scenes where they needed mood lighting and heavier shadows to create a sense of dread and foreboding, even just Aragorn sat in the corner smoking his pipe in shadow... ROP has no idea about any of this, they just have a light switch.
@@paulmurgatroyd6372 ROP can't even replicate what youtubers can do with a single light source
Oh, I seen 're. You're talking about my girl Galadriel 👐🙌👏🙌👏
Amazon throwing another billion dollars down the drain. And I'm still wondering why Amazon never made Invisible season 2.
No one saw it *ba-dum tss*
But yeah. Invincible s2 should’ve been made.
not really - it is considered a success for Amazon what I could read - already last year
They could have dumped a billion dollars into that series and made it live action
or all the "The Expanse" episodes for the final season...
anyway, i really hope they fail really hard
The so-called "billion dollars" is for the entire series and includes most of the infrastructure costs which would be used on other Amazon videos and film movies. So it isn't a true billion dollar cost as a lot of the expense is recouped through use of the land, buildings, facility services, studio set structures, computers, computer networks, software, and recycled set props on other shows.
Great video! Can't wait to see the outcome of season 2.
Also, It's funny hearing people pronounce our counties wrong. 😁
LOVED this video! 😄
"No animals were harmed during filming... eh... nevermind."
And then Golem shouted...
'HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!'
@@jaynon3318 That’s right, another Tolkien scholar I see!
Actually, we should just start referring to Payne and McKay as Bobo and Captain Pickles.
Actors and directors going on strike is fine by me. All of my media entertainment is Anime, TH-cam videos, Critical Role, Dimension20, Video games, and old movies. Writers, actors, and directors on strike won't affect my enjoyment at all
I like when Gary starts with #7 about the dead horse "A Living creature, a majestic living creature" 🐴
I know how to spell MORDOR now. The absolute best Live after show streams I've ever watched. I really hurt myself laughing a couple time. The best time I've had on TH-cam with my clothes on.
"Cast it into the fire! destroy it!"
Gets me every time.
