Hi Bhargavi, the latest info I got was that once surrender certificate was got and exit visa was applied the individual got 14 days to leave country. My logic is that if you have confirmed return ticket FRRO should be considerate and give you exit date for the date of travel as you will initiate surrender certificate while in India. I will keep you posted as and when I am getting the latest input. Today someone just landed in Kolkata and did walk-in to PSK for surrender certificate.

I have a question, if you can answer that would be great.
Having citizenship on 20 Nov. Planning to travel to India on 27 Jan.
I planned to apply for Canada PP on an 8 to 10-day process with proof of travel and apply for an Entry visa and PP surrender same time with the hope that will get everything before I fly.
Can I fly to India on the Indian PP on Jan 27, surrender the Indian PP there, and apply for OCI? As I am planning to stay in India for a longer period.
If yes, what should I do?

For further clarification and fresh guidelines if any, in this regard you are advised to approach Indian Embassy abroad/concerned Regional Passport Office (RPO) in India.
Regarding surrendering of passport, foreign national is advised to approach Indian Embassy abroad/concerned Regional Passport Office (RPO) in India.
Further, as far as departure from India is concerned, if any Indian national acquires nationality/passport of another country then he/she has to obtain "Exit Permit / Visa" from the FRO/FRO through online application at indianfrro.gov.in. Further, if "Exit Permit" is issued, the foreign national must depart within the validity of the Exit Permit.
Note: Grant/denial of Exit Permit/ Visa related services is subject to submission of surrender certificate of Indian Passport, Indian voter identity card (if issued by the ECI), etc. as well as usual checks and verification.

@canadatriedandtestedoriginal Thank you so much for your both videos. This is very informative. Me & wife had our Oath ceremony on 20th September & we recently received our canadian passport and has not surrender our Indian passport.
Me & my wife have already booked tickets to travel to India on 7th Dec ( which is within 3 months grace period ) & returning on 18th Jan ( after grace period ). As per what i understood- travel on Indian passport to enter in India & then surrender Indian passport before 3 months grace ( 20th dec ) and then take exit visa ( pay only for exit visa around 7000rs & no other penalty ). My question is as per recent experience shared by Ramya only 14 days timeline was provided to exit from India. As our tickets are already booked for 18th jan can we get exit date based on that? Or should we apply after 5th jan for exit visa (processing time 2 days ) as that would give us exit date by 21st jan ?
Please also update on people who shared their recent experience on exit visa . Also If there is any group where everyone can share experiences & be helpful would benefit. I do not see any other video or group that contain similar information.

As per Ministry of External Affairs (MA) guidelines a grace period of three months (90 days) is allowed from the date of acquisition of foreign citizenship, for the purpose of travel on Indian passport. For further clarification and fresh guidelines if any, in this regard you are advised to approach Indian Embassy abroad/concerned Regional Passport Office (RPO) in India.

Hi since you have limited time once you receive Canada passport you can try to get evisa which gets granted at short notice. If the timeline is too narrow in that case you can decide to travel with both passport. From what I have heard people apply for evisa and put no to the question of holding another passport if its only the Indian. The evisa gets processed and immigration officers don't ask about surrender certificate on entry. I guess that works with the argument that the Indian passport isn't considered valid once you recieve the other.
