    This really is a Christmas special Liam and Phil. Superb introduction with the Tyseley climb, wonderful Leamington approach and accompanying exhaust. The Leamington through shot is a classic, with the final still as a bonus... please don't be insulted if I suggest that would make a fantastic jigsaw. Kind regards, Bob.

    Those Castle and King loco's really were the very best steamers in my opinion. The bark and crisp exhaust beat is simply awesome, and the sheer power coming through that chimney is fabulous. Even the passengers at the station all stood in awe and admiration. thanks for the video and I really must get to see Clun next year god willing.

    Wow that was some incredible GWR action!! Got to love how sure footed and loud those GWR locos can really be especially the Castles!!

    4:21 Even the workmen are filming her, and honestly I don't blame them. The castle classes are quite possibly the most beautiful looking & sounding locomotives ever built

    An excellent video all round - steam and sound! A treat to watch. Mine was after the sun had gone over the hill, but there was still a wonderful exhaust! We are lucky to have it still.

    Loved the video and the sound was also great. On that 2nd clip, when others hear chug chug chug, I just hear "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can".

    Why do they always ruin it by having a diesel at the back? Is it a) they're cheating and the diesel is doing the work, b) in case the steam loco breaks down, c) it's used as a mobile generator to provide power, d) something else, or a combination of the above?

    • @MarshSteamVideosTM
      @MarshSteamVideosTM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In regards to your ??? Answer (C) is the reason for the diesel on this train and for shunting ! Some mainline operators use diesel's from time to time and some don't ! Answer (B) is only ever the case for locomotive test runs and Answer (A) would never be a legitimate reason !

    Only one colour carriage should be behind a Castle and that is Gods Wonderful Railway 'Shit & Custard'. I am allowed to say that as I did part of engineering apprenticeship at Swindon in the mid '60s. Grandad drove Halls and Castles out of Oxford, uncles were signalmen and guards and of course my first model railway was the Hornby 00 'Bristolian set

    Anybody know where I can find her timetable
    Also where did she start

  • @hornet1068
    @hornet1068 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Whilst I appreciate that it takes a lot of drawbar horsepower to start a train, particularly up an incline, I do think that sometimes these wonderful engines are deliberately started dirty with excessive smoke purely for effect. If you look back at some of the old school 1950' and 60's videos of trains pulling away from stops you will quite often see trains of 10, 11, 12 and sometimes 13 coaches pull away with barely a whisper of black smoke.

  • @kazeirfan
    @kazeirfan 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Man 2019 season for vintage trains basically not full seen about pullman coaches only i can see the mark 1 coaches and several mk 2 coaches but this is really hilarious when clun castle pull fully of mk1 coaches and how it this happen in Christmas time?

    I’ve noticed these steam trains often have a diesel on the back, why? Does it help push the train, operate the air brakes, supply electricity, backup in case the steam loco breaks down?

    • @jamesrymer8214
      @jamesrymer8214 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If im correct, i believe the 47's usually on the back provide the heating to the carriages. Could be wrong though.

    • @PenzancePete
      @PenzancePete 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesrymer8214 That is most correct - but I suspect that those Mk 1s are steam heated. The steamer has the brakes though.

    • @jamesrymer8214
      @jamesrymer8214 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PenzancePete Thanks for that! Sometimes i wonder if they put a 47 on the back as a precaution incase the steamer fails.

    • @johnkeepin7527
      @johnkeepin7527 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be that the set used needed electric train heating (some of them had dual mode electric/steam, but they might not have active steam any more). There are some specials that use air con stock, e.g. Mk 2 d/e stock. Don’t think I’d like to go on one of those with a steam loco up front! Also, it may be convenient for some movements to be done without having to run round. Quite a lot of ‘dead weight’, though!

  • @gainsbourg66
    @gainsbourg66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hate the diesel at the back. The Castle is more powerful and is just as good for breaking and heating
