I feel like for a lot of vintage gals, myself included, when you first start your journey your wardrobe looks a lot more pinup/rockabilly because that's what's more easily available? Then as your style matures you learn what you actually like, and how to style modern things you like to fit that style. The shortness of the bird skirt and the grey pencil skirt definitely read more rock-a-billy to me.
When you ducked when you saw the UPS guy.. I relate to that so much! I don’t leave my house ever either and when people unexpectedly show up at my house.. I’m hiding. Lol.

I have found after many a closet clean out, that I’m not the kind of person that can sell clothes. The energy and effort required is too great. I donate EVERYTHING regardless of value (even my wedding dress).
Nothing wrong with that! But as someone who used to work for a charity shop, make sure you donate in season. People often bring their summer clothes in when fall is starting and we simply don't have the room to keep clothing that won't sell for the weather. So either going through the clothes at the start of the season or saving it for next year is super helpful.

Also, have you ever considered making a mock collar for your sweaters? get a cheap blouse with a collar you like cut out enough of the collar to attach it to a tank top or bra. That what you cut out a lot of the bulk but still have the collar effect for your sweaters.
I'm currently in the process of turning my closet into a 1920's-1940's neutrals/aviator/ Indiana Jones villain/ Peaky blinders capsule wardrobe and I'm glad I'm not the only one who has strange fashion inspiration. I am also a serial closet purger except I purge before I get new clothes and end up with nothing to wear!

I love a good closet purge! It's always nice to know that I am wearing all of the clothes I own. I go through my own clothes every Spring and every Autumn. There is always something I didn't wear as much as I had hoped at the time I bought it or even something I did like but want in a better quality/fit.
When Rachel wore mismatched socks and was indecisive about getting rid of things...I felt that. Also, don't be ashamed of holding onto some things! If there's one thing I learned from Marie Kondo, it's that being mindful and appreciative of what you have is the most important part, not the number of things. You re-discovered those skirts and appreciate them still, so it's okay to hold onto them. Also, can't wait to see what you put in the shop!

The Algorithm brought me here. Why I don't know as I'm an just an old guy. But since I'm here I have a story that I hope will resonate with you and yours. A while ago I went to an estate sale. While waiting for it to open a woman walked up totally in 50's period. Hat to shoes. She looked terrific. She looked like my mom did back then. I asked her if I could take a photo and she said yes - and thanks for asking by the way. We got to talking. She dealt in vintage clothing and shopped estate sales. Makes sense. I asked if she wore vintage everywhere she went and she said no. After the sale she was going to an assisted living facility. It's what she does as often as she can. She wears her best period clothes and goes to talk with the people "in the home" as mom would say. Here's the part that chokes me up every time....She said the women perk up and talk about their clothes and their lives. The men take her hand - talk about their wives - and cry.
i loved the peach sweater no matter how bad you thought it wasn't flattering, it would have been a good top for pulling yourself together in a hurry. Maybe the fabric you didn't like, but it=n the video it was stunning on you! The peach looked perfect on the coloring of your cheeks or maybe that's your blush but definitely would have kept!
Rachel, to avoid bulkiness under thin knit “sweaters,” wear a faux shirt collar. There are many different styles. Also, false matching cuffs to complete the look. Yes, flare sleeves are available too. I shop on Aliexpress, so just type those search terms there to get a good idea of what I mean and see what is available so that you can let your imagination of new possibilities run wild.
I find as I get older and wiser (lol..right) I have gotten a lot better about having a revolving closet, also credit to one of my best friends friends, she is is tres chic and has always lived by that philosophy so I always want to aspire to that and I think I am a lot better now! I used to keep sooooo much sentimental clothing, there a few things I just cannot give away but my husband and I have a storage bin with them folded away. May be cool to dig in one day in the distant future.

I asked her if I could take a photo and she said yes - and thanks for asking by the way. We got to talking. She dealt in vintage clothing and shopped estate sales. Makes sense.
I asked if she wore vintage everywhere she went and she said no. After the sale she was going to an assisted living facility. It's what she does as often as she can. She wears her best period clothes and goes to talk with the people "in the home" as mom would say.
Here's the part that chokes me up every time....She said the women perk up and talk about their clothes and their lives. The men take her hand - talk about their wives - and cry.
i loved the peach sweater no matter how bad you thought it wasn't flattering, it would have been a good top for pulling yourself together in a hurry. Maybe the fabric you didn't like, but it=n the video it was stunning on you! The peach looked perfect on the coloring of your cheeks or maybe that's your blush but definitely would have kept!

Rachel, to avoid bulkiness under thin knit “sweaters,” wear a faux shirt collar. There are many different styles. Also, false matching cuffs to complete the look. Yes, flare sleeves are available too. I shop on Aliexpress, so just type those search terms there to get a good idea of what I mean and see what is available so that you can let your imagination of new possibilities run wild.
I find as I get older and wiser (lol..right) I have gotten a lot better about having a revolving closet, also credit to one of my best friends friends, she is is tres chic and has always lived by that philosophy so I always want to aspire to that and I think I am a lot better now! I used to keep sooooo much sentimental clothing, there a few things I just cannot give away but my husband and I have a storage bin with them folded away. May be cool to dig in one day in the distant future.
