MULLET FISHING - ON THE KAYAK

The mullet - a fish that has always proved difficult to catch whatever you try. Especially the thick lip, which is what I was targeting.
I met Callum Scholes at 06:30 and we quickly launched at shoreham. The target was mullet and bass. We were only going to use the estuary as the wind was up.
When launching we quickly saw bass on the surface and thought. This would be easy. Well how wrong was I. Bass didn’t seem very interested, however Callum did manage a nice keeper on the soft plastics.
After about 45 mins of trying for a bass we went in search for mullet. The shoals were quickly found and bread bombs thrown over their heads. Sadly even my lovely white bread didn’t tempt them. The fish kept moving and were difficult to keep in one place. We explored some creeks to locate some isolated shoals where feeding and fishing would be easier but in this occasion they were not to be found.
Until next time…. I think Christchurch harbour and cuckmere haven near me may just have to be on the cards 😅
It was great fun either way trying for them and a real nice sociable morning. Look forward to our session later Callum for those undies and maybe a sole for me 👀

Ah my old hunting ground. Used to get millions of mullet going up and down that creek. Stick at it! I did a couple of mullet fishing vids but didn’t get any thicks which is definitely on my target list this year. Good luck

@@MuscleFishingOfficial Dusk can help a little but I've found mullet to be most active in the middle of the morning. When I posted my vid, I got a snotty email from a guy telling me to remove it as I was apparently blowing a mark. ..so I posted another one :D Keep em coming

Do you have to pay to fish in that part of the harbour? I also like the idea of the cuckmere as its just up the road me too 👍 Enjoying the vlogs and this series your doing. Tugh lines 🎣

Nope it is free. I will also be trying the cuckmere haven as it’s 15 mins down the road from me to. Lots of mullet to catch but they are difficult. The ose is good aswell. Many thanks, I enjoy making them and fishing for them.

I don’t think I’ve ever had 2 brilliant sessions in two days. Ive never caught a thick lip (I’m pretty sure) but love spinning for thin lips with little spinners and rag baits 👍

@@MuscleFishingOfficial I’ve tried plenty of times of a thick lip, I’ve had shoals of 20+ fish feeding at my feet, taking everything except my hook bait, they are certainly the smartest fish.
