Of all the farm videos I am subscribed to, yours and Nico’s homestead is the only one I’ve seen that is just pretty darn near perfect. How it’s built , arranged and taken care of. All the love and attention for each other, for your children and your animals! I love your farm and family. I enter into peace the minute I start watching your videos. Hurricane Beryl came through my area and had limbs as well as branches all over my yard. Plus a wood fence fell down. So I can have sympathy for y'all as they are not friendly. Wishing the girls a wonderful year at school. Enjoyed watching and thanks.

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about Fancy Pants. She was a fun little goat. About Egypt's suggestion of training Beau...I thoroughly endorse that idea. My grandfather worked with ponies roughly his size and I helped him a lot. He used a "gentle" training method, which was basically apple slices or carrot sticks for doing good. (We had one pony that would only work for dill pickles. Proof there is a weirdo in every herd.) Strapping on the halter the first few times was hard but once they knew there was praise, pets, and apple slices for letting us put it on it got a lot easier. Then, you just hold the halter close to the head say, " walk on" and show them the food. You would say "gee" before you turned them to the right and "haw" before you turned them to the left. We started with 5-minute sessions then built it up to 20 minutes. It generally took a month of work for them to be reliably trained. Once you have them halter trained you can teach them anything. Desensitizing, basically teaching them that something is okay to be there is as simple as teaching a dog "leave it." In the case of equines, you simply put the strange animal on the other side of the fence and walk them past several times going a little bit slower every time. Then you stop for a minute, while you're a good distance away wait for them to start paying attention to it and walk on. Keep doing this with a shorter and shorter distance between you and the animal until they stop paying attention to it. Then do the same thing inside the pasture with the animal. While ponies are a lot more timid than donkeys, they often had to be trained not be afraid of new Momma and her calf. It all trains out the same way. Donkey attacks are just the flip side of a pony running away. Several of his ponies were used as "herd leaders," that's where the pony stays in the field with the cattle, Whenever the pony decides something is dangerous like a storm, or coyotes, or what not, they take off for the barn and the herd follows them. Funniest thing in the world to see a little bitty pony trotting at the front of a herd of massive Holstien cows on their way to the barn.

Maybe in the pens you have a cutting tool tied to a string/elastic to cut open bags on one of the posts nearby. Or a garden snippers. Then it will always be there when your in a hurry like you were that day. Like McGyver and his handydandy pocket knife always there.

Necco your right this was such a slow moving storm. I thought of South Carolina how they got hit 2 times and stayed idle forevere for them. We waited and waited for it in No East Va. But thankfully for me it went west up the state. So rain wasn't as harsh as planned. But I am glad I set up dam barriers etc. Bad part for us Hubby and I got a covid about a week ago. Still some rough days but my children are caring for us.

I’m in McAlpin and the storm was bad, between Hurricane Idalia last year and Debbie hitting me this year, I have lost half my barn. I can’t believe how much damage Debbie did. I didn’t lose any of my animals, just more trees broken to add to what’s still left from Idalia. I’m really hope this one doesn’t hit me. I have been praying that God protects us from more damage.
I prayed for you guys during the hurricane. Looks like your damage was minimal compared to what it could have been. Sorry for the loss of your goats. Our loss in Houston TX was actually during the Derecho before the hurricane. Our power grid was out for five days for all the highline structures taken out and poles sheered in half or pushed over. When the hurricane came, we just had East/West winds and the eye of the storm. Wooden fences down but no damage to the house. Power back on that evening because everything was new in our grid and all the trees just lost branches in my neighborhood. God protected us all!

Necco your right this was such a slow moving storm. I thought of South Carolina how they got hit 2 times and stayed idle forevere for them. We waited and waited for it in No East Va. But thankfully for me it went west up the state. So rain wasn't as harsh as planned. But I am glad I set up dam barriers etc. Bad part for us Hubby and I got a covid about a week ago. Still some rough days but my children are caring for us.

I’m in McAlpin and the storm was bad, between Hurricane Idalia last year and Debbie hitting me this year, I have lost half my barn. I can’t believe how much damage Debbie did.
I didn’t lose any of my animals, just more trees broken to add to what’s still left from Idalia.
I’m really hope this one doesn’t hit me. I have been praying that God protects us from more damage.

I prayed for you guys during the hurricane. Looks like your damage was minimal compared to what it could have been. Sorry for the loss of your goats. Our loss in Houston TX was actually during the Derecho before the hurricane. Our power grid was out for five days for all the highline structures taken out and poles sheered in half or pushed over. When the hurricane came, we just had East/West winds and the eye of the storm. Wooden fences down but no damage to the house. Power back on that evening because everything was new in our grid and all the trees just lost branches in my neighborhood. God protected us all!
