Yet in all these comments there was a missing component, the beautiful feeling of having something done by yourself, all the hours that were invested in creating this project that brought happiness and memories that can't be valued in any financial value, plus the bus can travel abroad. I have to admit at this point I'm jealous. Congrats!!!

For about $100K Grand USD, that is not bad, not bad at all and it is a double decker. You can live here forever as a primary home. Congratulations!

Double deckers are not a good option if you will be moving alot. The reason why double deckers were discontinued was due to their instable centre of gravities.
So you can't really take these to mountains, on the other hand skoolies can easily go up there. So that's a huge disadvantage.

@@humayunmir5563 I DID NOT say anything about taking these up a mountain. YOU DID.
This vehicle can be parked on a lot permanently or semi-permanently and it can be as solid as any mobile home structure to live in. Plus it has almost double the square footage of a skoolie, giving it more space for a 'Regular Home' feel or space for a larger Family.

It's very generous of you to answer the cost question. I consider anyone's finances personal information. Just as it's rude to ask how much someone's income, its rude in this aspect too. Thank you for your generosity.

I think many people ask not to assess his wealth, but to see if it's feasible to try and endeavour this on their own(even on a smaller scale). If I had to start a project knowing I'd run outta money well before it's finished, there's no point in starting. With these insight, people can see if they're up to it financially ( and technically, although that's often a thing they'd learn as they go, as long as you're good with your hands and have a plan, it'll be alright).

It's only rude because it can highlight the injustice of pay for what people do for a job. I don't care if people know what I earn, I drive trucks in the UK now I earn around £24,000 per year. I have earned £54,000 a year driving with a different company but I didn't enjoy that job so much so I left. Money is just a means to a end for paying bills to me. People put too much emphasis on how much people earn, I am happier in this job now.

If we consider that a new regular motorhome in Europe costs from 65.000 to over 100.000 €... 80.000€ for a project like this it's not that much! And with the overhauled engine the bus can live almost forever doing millions of chilometers around the world! Awesome!!!

@@carloshernriquebatistadeba2452 It depends. If you use the motorhome for holidays, I agree with you; but if you do like a friend of mine, the situation changes. Now he's in retirement with his wife, and he's travelling around the whole World with a motorhome that he made 10 years ago on an Iveco 370 (one of the most glorious Italian buses ever made). Five years ago he departed from Italy driving to the east for thousand of kms in direction to the eastern part of Siberia, then he ferried to Alaska. Now he's enjoying his motorhome somewhere in U.S.A.. He said that after this journey he want to come back, drive from Russia to the south, pass from Turkey and go in Africa.

For 80.000 this was phenomenal. Considering the engine and kitchen extras you could have done it for around 55.000€ which is crazy for a 4 star hotel on wheels.

When you say you got a new licence, does that mean you changed the vehicles classification with the dept of motor vehicles, from lots of passengers to RV? or did you have to upgrade your driving licence to a commercial licence owing to the size of the vehicle? Fantastic build, well done.

    • @Onrust1
      @Onrust1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Yes, it is all about the licence of the vehicle. Not to an RV, but from lots of passengers to less passengers. 😊 It is still a bus, but it went from a total of 90 persons to 11 (=number of seats). Everything above 9 is a bus over here. There is no such thing as a 'commercial licence'. If you have, like me, a bus drivers licence, you can drive it. If you would take 2 seats out (and re-register), it would become a truck, and you would need that licence. Oh and THEN you could even choose to make it into an RV. Thank you! Regards from the Netherlands!

that engine costing 20k was a bummer tho
Assuming the engine was fine, it would cost 60K€ if I had the money to do it I would, im very young maybe in the future from a great inspiration video.
I advise you to do like other people said and installing solar, it can be expensive but then u can go completly offgrid.

That's not that bad at all. Especially if you wouldn't happen to have bad luck with the engine. Considering how much new bigger RV's cost here in Europe. I'd most definitely have something like that compared to new RV. Of course there's tons of work involved. But overall, good job. I'm not an RV guy, but really enjoyed to watch these few episodes.

Before my wife died , she thought me mad that I'd pick up shells , rocks or even wave beaten broken beer bottle made smooth on our walks along the beach or on hikes . She'd say I was a magpie bird , in a different life . Then she left me . Got breast cancer , and once she asked if I could drive her to hospital . She opened the ash tray and found the shells , rocks and bottles made smooth from the waves . And I could tell her the story of the day from each one , she would hold one up and ask . She was surprised I could remember the clothes she was wearing . I don't care of the price of your bus , to watch the adventures of you on the bus , in life , as long as you really live . 😀 is for me . Just be fake be real . And I'll be happy .

As a Britain working for the Dutch national airline - this is a staggering project you have totally nailed. Everything automotive related in Holland is at least 30% more expensive in Holland than the UK. Every single part of your project is spot on, (including your English) Were it not for the incredibly bad luck of needing a whole new engine this is actually remarkably good value for money considering that even a VW camper van is 80k plus new. I salute you sir with jealous eyes!

Everyone forgets to mention the cost of the labor you put into the bus. So $80,000 plus the labor would really put the cost up there. You saved so much doing all that work yourself. You are very skilled at so many things. Good for you. It is nothing in the US for an RV to cost $300,000 to $500,000. You definitely have a bargain in that beautiful bus, even including the large amount of time you invested in doing the labor yourself.
