Have had a MAX II 6x6 like that for over 22 years. You need to sit in the center of machine with the steering sticks between your legs. Also, while in the water and sitting in center of the seat, you need to not only power your steering by the levers, but you LEAN just like a motorcycle to help make your turns. Yu can just about turn in a circle by only leaning to the side without even steering with steering levers. Steering levers AND leaning while in the water to make your turns. I personally use a trolling motor mounted to body if I plan to do any serious water time. Tires will power you across a quick pond, but a day of water use you'll want a trolling motor.
@@SpamMouse Nice thought, but it wouldn't fit. External propellers attached to drive shafts would make more sense, so you don't have to use yet another electric device for propulsion.
Just needs chunkier tread on the tyres like a tractor, and better throttle control to stop the wheels from causing cavitation, its hard to propel yourself forward in a sea of bubbles. It might be fine if it's not sitting low in the water and lugging twice its own weight in bilge water, then the operator won't feel the urge to floor it and create a froth that it can't propel itself through. I'm reserving judgement until I see it working properly in its current (pun intended) form.
I'd call it a win. It works really well but i think it needs a slow speed for the water. When i was a kid my friend had a couple and the modded one was slower on the water because of cavitation. If you got it moving at a slow speed and slowly increased the throttle it wasnt bad but the stock one was better on the water. He also kept more air in the middle tires so the steering was les jerky.
I'm so confused how "oh there a steady stream of water coming in, lets figure out where that's coming from" wasn't your reaction to almost sinking the first time. But it was cool to see the bilge pump work it's ass off. The ASMR section was great though, you should do that for every EV build. The EV sounds are so cool and unique.
Other thing is..... you NEED to keep the bearings heavily greased where they go through the body on all six axles. The grease in those bearings are your only seal to keep water out. On the outside of the MAX right atop each axle where it goes in the body should be a zerk grease fitting on each axle bearing. Grease grease grease them up and your water leaks will stop. Also, now that you have removed the fuel tank in the front and added heavy batteries and the electric motors weight in the rear, you'll need to add some ballast weight in the front where fuel tank used to be. Or simply move your batteries to the front.
All I wanted to know was if they were still on good terms with each other, sounds like they are. I understand him wanting to take a break after an accident like that. I was just worried there was some bad blood there.
