I don't think you mentioned Arcane. The show is wildly successful even among people that never played League of Legends, and it's praised by critics and public for its plot and overall quality. This goes to show how invested Riot is into developing the Runeterra universe.
Folks, don't worry. I too am excited for Ashes of Creation. That jab in the intro was just meant as good fun. I think AoC looks great, and I can't wait to play. But also - I would be SHOCKED if it comes anywhere near mainstream success (which is what we're really talking about in this video). I think it'll be a great time for us hardcore MMO nerds though.
How dare you speak badly of AoC. You are tying your own noose, the mob will do the rest :D On a serious note I agree with you, and Steven repeats this often himself, AoC won't be for everyone and it doesn't have to be, I think a lot of people will get a rude awakening once it comes out.
I haven't seen anything for this new Riot MMO yet but they do have a dam near perfect record. I also know their guns in Valorant are more expensive than the Skins in OW2 and they are also owned by Tencent Games. It might be big like a mobile game is big if that's all you mean. I think I can make just as a solid argument that AoC can be huge. Lineage 2 in 2003 was huge. WoW had alot of PVP servers. Tarkov was so popular it created it's own genre. Honestly what's there to compare? The only open world PVP games developed are super low budget with very little to offer anyone but pvp. Just my personal opinion but New World has the most potential to be an amazing game. My personal view is after gameplay nothing is more important than an immersion. So far AoC shares seems to share this philosophy.
Finally, a retirement home for LoL players like me who has now boomer reflexes. The World of Runeterra is so fleshed out it's super exciting! for peeps here who has never played league just look at the card artworks of runeterra and you'll see how exciting it is to be in it's world.
Agreed. Been playing on and off since launch (I was in my 20's already then lol). I don't feel like my reflexes have dimmed but wrist pain has seen to it that I can't play games like LoL anymore haha. Hopefully Legends of Runeterra has controller support like FFXIV
When a game becomes so big that it "comes out" of the game world, becomes anime, movie or has a lot of merchandise the success for mmorpg is very big, even if you don't play League of Legends you know what it is, and the Riot has all the time in the world to make a dentyro mmorpg of its own world, exploring every part of it and the lore of all the characters.
its the next giant MMO for sure, and with such a rich character roster, strong art direction & reach via the anime series and other games. Combine that with riots track record on payment models, its so promising - i am hopeful.
I do believe that the Riot MMO will probably be the biggest once it comes out. And that for the sole reason that they will make the game as much for everybody as possible and execute it with quality. That probably means no open world PvP, teleportation and things like that... For me personally ill either switch to AoC or stay with BDO(depends what will be better at that time). I just like open world PvP, in BDO it happens to me only like once a month, but when it happens its really fun. Sometimes it leads to guild war, sometimes i just switch server with two clicks if i am loosing too badly, no problem. I never loose anything and it just reminds me how much i lack PvP knowledge on the particular class i play with/against. I just play PvE, PvP in BDO sadly sucks so this is basically my only pvp interaction and i like it. It means i can attack a griefer that comes to my spot and refuses to leave/dfs. Its just too much PvE griefing that would be added to game without open world PvP. It just needs to be properly gated with some system so you really use open world PvP just as last resort against worst griefers.
It's crazy because they did not succed only in video games. Arcane is rated as one of the best animated series ever made and has won a lot of awards, not to mention it made a lot of money. Season 2 of Arcane is in the works and I would not be surprised if they will keep expanding in different media. They also have great tracks, so they covered the music department as well.
@@CorruptorPeste that's why they are expanding to different media and platform to reach other people who have different taste than they usually introduce.
I usually don’t have high hopes for most newer mmorpgs but with Riot behind this knowing they have unlimited time, finances and a wonderful team who seems to be putting their heart and soul into this… plus the fact riot has amazing other games that are very successful… this game will most likely be amazing.
Yup, Riot truly is what Blizzard was 15 or so years ago. Just the fact that the team behind the MMO is always talking on twitter about the development and stuff like that, gives me a lot of hope that it will truly be an amazing game. Most other MMOs just refuse to talk and listen to their playerbase, which is crazy to me, since its one of the most important things to make an MMO successful.
@@Grumpypu But Riot is as greedy, if not more than Blizzard. Blizzard while being owned by Acti, still has a tiny bit of its core messaging within their games, as players even with the lowest of expectations, expect something from blizzard. Valorant got away with 70 dollar skin packs, Lost Ark got away with 0 earnable transmogs and gear, if Riots last few games are what we can go by, the new MMO might turn into a F2P battle pass filled, no gear MMO. Way worse than store mounts or store transmogs...
@@Undecided_ what does lost ark have to do with Riot ? Ghostcrawler already said they wont do a P2W MMO. And idk, I rather have a good F2P MMO with a cosmetic store than a sub based game like WoW which costs 60 dollars every 2 years plus 15 dollars every month and STILL puts stuff into the store every few months nowadays, in no Riot game is it required of me to spend money, so I dont see how Riot is more greedy, its all optional cosmetics.
@@Undecided_ they're not that greedy honestly. you can get most of their skins and champions completely free. league you can never pay a dime and have everything just from playing. valorant you can have every single champ and not pay
@@Undecided_ Lost Ark isn't made by Riot nor their parent company Tencent. But let's just ignore the other games they put out that are some of the most budget friendly versions of their genre? Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics for example.
@@sappitytappity8380 it actually caused valve to introduce a slew of new features to cs as well as up their update schedule for the game. Since valorant cs has gotten more features than 5 years prior. You dont need to like valorant but it is a good thing for cs players.
Also Arcane, not a game, but a tv show based on a video game, successing like this, Riot does things right, bring genius in and let them work, also the success of Arcane says a lot about the solid lore already in place which matters for the MMO
My take : - Our "Own" Hero. _(male / female)_ - Questing ofc, but Dungeons, _(many),_ do make you loot actual Lol Items. _(bloodthisters on said boss, Trinity Force has x-drop chance on said raid)_ - You build your Character. Its Stats, and Gameplay become / are based on the item types you put on him. _(that you've looted so far. Early to Late progression)_ - One of the Goal would be to try to get most Items, so that would allow you to create Specific Items Sets. _(custom builds)_ - Like, I want my character as an "AD Spellcaster", I need to equip Shojin, IE, and if I can loot Static Sheev on "12 man Raid boss Thresh" here, my build is going great. - Until you get to be able build your character into any build that suits the idea you have for it. - So... actual League Of Legends, but in MMO fashion lmao :) - Build your Character, unlock Skills, etc. - Actual "Items Slots" Inventory and Equipments. - Ornn forges the Best Legendaries of the Game, period.
I think the unsung hero and brilliance of how Riot has handeled their growth is how they slowly developed the "Runeterra" IP. Ever since theid big lore retcon back in 2015 - 2016 they have slowly but surely built out a world. Not lore for a game or a campaign. A world, filled with characters and stories and politics and all kinds of interesting crap. And while it influenced league, it was super clear they wanted to develop an IP to spider out into a number of properties. Hence legends of runeterra, and arcane and now the mmo. They put in the leg work to build this massive world that is basically a sandbox for any games or other media that they want to make or let others make through the forge program they have. I just think its an insanely smart move and lets them dump pretty much all their dev time into make a solid and fun game.
I always love how your videos are on your opinion and what you think will happen. Not going beyond that and becoming biased and such. Always got good information and why you come to your opinoins. Always a great watch!
i had to do a triple take on what you said because this is a pure biased opinion. Because X company had success in the past this will be good. As biased as you can get. Gives a shit example like Valorant too. Really? Yea valorant really was a game breaking game, the part when they looked at CSGO and said "lets do that but with abilities". I can imagine the MMO being the exact same. "Let's do a WOW MMO ripoff but without progress, itll be great guys i swear, just like valorant, just like overwatch 2, just like diablo 4"
@@gfhufhu4 That is basically the genius behind their whole production model. Every game they have made is a new and improved version of past titles. League of Legends ---> Dota Legends of Runeterra ---> Magic the Gathering/Hearthstone Teamfight Tactics ---> Dota Auto Chess Valorant ---> CSGO/Overwatch Ruined King ---> Battle Chasers: Nightwar If it's one thing they are good at, it's making better games so let's bet on that :)
100%. I would also add that their writers and story telling is awesome. The made a series “Arcane” in Netflix and it blew every other serie out the water. I know none gamers that told me that they will get into the mmo because of it
This is the first time in a while that we got an MMO coming out that has a lot of foundational lore behind it. I want to say ESO might have been the last one. Personally I just really hope the combat and animation is smooth and visceral. I want something close to BDO in terms of combat fluidity but maybe closer to GuildWard 2 as for the actual combat style. Something that looks cool and feels good to play.
I think the fact that there's so much hype for a game that we know little to nothing about, aside from the lore it's going to be based on, shows everything that is currently wrong with the MMO community. We keep hyping these games up purely on the basis of hopes and dreams and 9 times out of 10 they will fail to live up to those expectations. Riot has never ventured into the MMO genre, an infamously fickle genre with no well-defined formula for success. This isn't 2004 anymore and just being able to play online with other people in a fantasy world isn't going to cut it. Neither is just having a fair business model, plenty of fairly monetized dead MMOs out there. The only real advantage Riot have is exposure and funds. There will certainly be a ton of eyeballs on this game and that can be a double-edged sword. If it fails to live up to expectations then the crowd will turn on it as quickly as they jumped on the hype train.
Jokes on you I know every mmo is going to be shit, because the whole genre is shit now. No new original ideas, concepts, or combat. So if it’s even slightly good it will have exceeded my expectations.
So don’t have hope? Thats a terrible take. I have hope this game will be amazing because of the team behind it, the unlimited time and money + other resources to make it happen. They’ve already made extremely good games that are incredibly fun and addicting so unless they make a huge mistake the game will undoubtedly be decent if not amazing.
@@brianburke2760 Gamers should be having _realistic hope_ with tempered expectations. Unrealistic expectations about a product that _isn’t even out yet_ is just setting oneself up for disappointment. A mature perspective is: Hope for the best, expect the worst. Chances are it will land in the middle.
For you to shoot down others hope for a game is childish. Yes theres a chance the game won’t be groundbreaking but to shoot it down without seeing it first is ridiculous
Im actually looking forward most to Riot's fighting game. Fighting games in general are years behind other video game genres in term of content and online play, it took 15 years and a pandemic for developers to finally fix the netcode in their fighting games. Riot's game will most likely will be filled with content, great online experience, free to play and huge prize pools for the competitive scene, hopefully it will be a wake up call for Capcom and Bandai Namco.
Riot's MMO has an opportunity to become bigger than league if done right. All those Fans of the Arcane series who want to explore Runeterra? Check. All the league Lore nerds who love the stories that Riot has created for their characters over the years? Check. All that distilled experience from MMO dev veterans all in one place with a near-infinite supply of money? Check. But it's also more than that. The current climate in the MMO genre has old fans yearning for a big title that they can play as a mainstay game since the fall of Blizzard and their shenanigans with WoW over the years. It's almost like this perfect storm of factors if Riot can capitalize on it all properly which they seem to be doing. They could quite literally be ushering in a new era of MMOs.
Imagine less than 200 million unique accounts ever made. A good 30-60% if not more of them being sell accounts or inactive. Yet, League still likely made $500M in revenue alone from it. Who is buying that many skins?
Riot to me, is what Blizzard USED to be before Activision came into the picture. Just like the Blizzard of old, Riot is one of those few companies that puts their heart and soul into their games and products and it shows. Heck, I don't even play LoL and I've been watching every minute of the World Championships this year because it's all produced and delivered so very well! Can't wait to see what they do in the future!
It definitely seems probable that it will be the next big MMO, here's hoping! I liked what you said about what Blizzard used to do, polish and dominate. Riot really is taking over in some of these areas, and I hope it continues because we need a new AAA MMO.
Riot's mmo is definitely very intriguing and full of potential. I have been done with LoL for years but even I will admit that the world and characters Riot has created are very cool. Hopefully they'll show some gameplay at some point soon.
Same I haven't played league in years but I still keep up with events and stories in its world. Im excited for the MMO but I want to wait and see what they end up making before I get too I get swept by all the hype. But I'll be following news of it closely lol
I played *LoL* for many years, one of the most toxic experiences of my life. It was only until I left for several years and then discovered *Legends of Runeterra* that I fell in love with the Runeterra universe. I guess it was a lot more developed by then, but one thing that always bothered me about *LoL* is how the universe was portrayed by really nice artwork, but then ended up looking really ugly in the game itself most of the time. *LoR* doesn't have that problem because it's all artwork.
This is THE MMO I’m waiting for. I’ve tried WOW, FF14, Guild Wars 2, Lost Ark. they all are fun, but an MMO made by RITO… I have some high expectations.
He forgot to add riot forge games like the rpg game Ruined King, the mobile rythm game Hextech Mayhem and lastly the upcoming other two games Convergence and Song of Nunu. Not to mention Riot also branch in to music (like Pentakill, KDA, True Damage), animation (Arcane) and comics. So far they are also planning to expand more in the future.
Ashes of Creation is actually not a crowdfunded game, the game will get fully funded by steven sharif. The reason they used a crowfund was because they wanted to know if there are enough people who would be willing to play that kind of a game. I'm also pretty sure that they already used up all the money they got out of the croudfunding.
Riot seems to know their thing. They produce great content. Their games are popular, their music videos are cool, their series are loved. Im sure they can pull off a great MMO. Perhaps give it some years and it will be as in depth as WoW.
Riot is a company that takes other people's ideas and adjust them. LOL = Dota2 Remake / Valorant = CS GO Remake. No genuine new idea came from them since I know that company, only copy paste with some adjustment and childish video effects.
@@AlexOltyan Lemme inform you that LoL is already complete before Dota 2, also guinsoo is the lead dev before icefrog came to existence. "childish video effects" but Arcane and Lol lore is deeper and more mature than Dota Dragons blood and any lore.
The thing is. I think the playstyle is going to be not like a world of warcraft. I imagine it being more skill based with skillshots and stuff. Like a wildstar or v rising. This would make it tough to be a complete takeover of the genre. But I believe it will be amazing and hopefully will be exactly what I want. But not everyone
@@zacharybryant3865 I dont think they are shooting for a takeover. I think they are just shooting for a solid game to make cash from for years to come. I personally would absolutely love a super solid mmo with combat like v rising but super polished and in depth. It would be extremely amazing
Quick Note: Although Ashes of Creation was "crowdfunded" it really isn't. The total costs of game have already exceeded 50 million + they have roughly 150 employees (which costs a lot) and the vast majority of that money IS being provided by the owner of company Steven Sharif who has said to have put in over 40 million of his own money, for sure more by now. That aside, I am so excited to see more about Riot's MMO. It's a tough job on their part because although what you said about them copying a genre and perfecting it before releasing the game and seeing wild success, MMOs in particular are a MASSIVE undertaking. Not that they won't be able to do it, of course I have faith in them especially with the budget they have, but to compare the games they've currently come out with, in regard to all the mechanics/systems those games offer, then comparing it to what's needed for an MMO to be successful today.. it's like comparing building a bird house to building a resort. For each new mechanic or system that interacts with another, you introduce another variable, then each variable interacting with another variable, the work gets exponentially greater very fast. Assuming they want to perfect the genre as they have with other games, the amount iteration processes alone that are needed... Not including the systems that needed to be redone because of player feedback. I'm not trying to say they can't do it but as you've already stated they (as a company) make plenty of money and if they see down the line this game isn't up to their standards they have no problems dropping it. I think what's more likely to happen is that they come out with a game that has the bare minimum systems and mechanics, but they perfect them all. So the game doesn't have complaints about the mechanics they have in there but also it's nothing spectacular in the genre itself because why do they need to do anything innovative/risky when they already have such a great reputation? That being said, I think one possible future is they wait for Ashes of Creation to launch first before launching (this is a little far-reaching because who knows how long Ashes will be in development). One of the most pressing topics for MMOs right now is "always on open world PVP" or not. All players want good PVE, and challenging dungeons and reasons to cooperate with other players via trading or crafting, but one thing that seems to divide the community the most is open world pvp. I personally would like to see IF Ashes of Creation can accomplish putting this into an MMO successfully; and I'm sure the team behind Riot's MMO is closely watching this as well. If this concept of open world pvp ends up taking off and the large majority of new gen MMO players prefer it, then for the longevity of the new MMO they're creating, one could imagine them implementing open world pvp by using concepts Ashes of Creation created. Either way I'm genuinely excited for the future of MMOs and I hope the full potential of this genre becomes a reality.
Riot doesn't need to care about ashes, never will be. Ashes potential player counts is 10k max, Riot can do 10 million. Only few content creator will cover this.
@@death2able Wait where do you get “10k max” player count from? They’ve announced over 4 million registered users on their website, and even now, still not even alpha 2 yet and their livestreams get 6k+ viewers on twitch… Tell me how you got 10k as a number lol

It will surely be successful, because mindless masses will always play whatever is most popular. ''Let's eat shit, millions of flies can't be wrong, right?''

One thing im really curious about is how well integrated into the world the professions will be. What I mean by this is that one of the biggest strengths of Runeterra is that it is very finished when it comes to stories, worldbuilding, nations, ETC. This obviously means that people are already invested in the world either through Arcane, League, or any other RIOT IP. I really hope that professions will be treated in a way that is tied directly to the serious world aspects of Runeterra. This is mostly due to the fact that the time needed to work on worldbuilding and setting, is most likely already in the finishing stages, allowing for more time to be used towards gameplay and how to incorporate gameplay correctly into a setting without breaking immersion. I am so down for them to rehaul what we see as professions within current MMOs because I think that is an aspect that can be greatly improved. Instead of just walking different places and hitting a rock for 2 min to get something. I think RIOT has a real chance to make professions feel like actual immersive jobs and missions that can generate goods or in game currency. I feel like Classes are so figured out, there is very little you probably want to change on the usual systems around classes in most MMOs, but professions are still not as important as classes, when I think they could totally be that way with the right direction. Like I want to have side missions in that I go as crystal miner into the depths of the Shuriman desert and farm magic crystals that I can either sell to Enchanters on the market or sell directly for some quick cash. This mission could be as simple as to enter a instance and fight Crystal Scorpions and mine some shit, with perhaps chances for rare loot or a difficulty scaling. I think there is a lot of room for creativity and improvement that could lead to making MMO downtime feel rewarding and fun, while still proving to be an immersive aspect of the setting Runeterra.
I don't play League, quite WoW during MoP gave up on MMO's overall after Archeage, learned to play fighting games instead since i loved PVP, with the highly anticipated Project L in development and Arcanes brilliance i been watching lore videos and learning about the world and i like it, lots of potential for an immersive game world
There's a LARGE portion of us gamers who are huge fans of Riot's style, writing, world-building, monetization, etc... while not being fans of League at all!!! Ever since I saw ARCANE, which is a freakin' masterpiece btw, I've been obsessed with how great Riot is at building the foundation for a great universe. I've been delving deeply into their lore and cinematics and also playing Legends of Runeterra since ARCANE and btw that's an AMAZING card game and imo the best in the genre with great PvP and PvE modes with literally zero reason to spend a dime. Wild Rift, Valorant and TFT are all also great games just not my thing... BUT the Riot MMO has me so excited. The last decade of world-building has been intentional in order to expand their library of games and media and the plan is finally coming to fruition. I don't know if the MMO will be good, bad or amazing... but based on their track record I'm cautiously optimistic.
They need to make an mmorpg with good character building. Like.. I should be able to make a mage that's different from any other person's mage that's just as powerful and effective in their own way.
Dont worry, with the world of runeterra being massive and full of story, there's also so many cool and unique designs, that i genuinely think character customization is going to be one of the biggest parts of this game.
@@dooddoingstuff I'm hoping so. Too many times, I've seen games where the players pretty much have to build their characters an exact, specific way or they won't even be considered for dungeon groups.

This is going to be the World of Warcraft for all the kids out there like World of Warcraft was for us as little 10-15 year old kids back in the day. I bet you anything kids will be playing this like crazy compared to any other MMO nowadays.
They also created a LoL boardgame in 2016 that is still in the top 100 of boardgamegeek's player ranking list. They also released the Ruined King RPG that is doing really well still.
ill believe any of it when i see it in action and i can try it, ive seen to many companies who built massive games in other genres try to make an MMO and mess it up somehow
If your into lore, go to League of Legends Universe and find a champion at random, or one you think you might like and read up on them. I promise you you won't regret it. I belive more in AOC being the next big king but riot mmo could be a fun little game aswell. I expect it to be simple and and fun but not something you'll play for hours and hours and hours. LoL is fun because you can jump in and out easily and you don't have to put any effort in it, just choose a hero and have fun
I think everyone is also sleeping on Pantheon Rise of the Fallen. For all us old EQ fans, this looks like another really good upcoming MMO that takes us back to the golden days of MMO's before WoW. The systems and environment just look amazing, as does the dedication of the staff that's putting it together.
I too hold out far more hope for this, than Ashes, which seems targeted to the hardcore players, with its open PvP, and other aspects. Add to that how dependent is seems to be on community involvement, and the need for a good sized community to keep that working, if it can't get casual players interested, there's just not going to be enough hardcore players willing to drop their current game, for Ashes to keep all that stuff working for long. Of course that's if all their redesigning, adding of new features, and bundles they're already selling doesn't turn it into a never launch game like Star Citizen. Although even though I have more trust the Riot MMO would turn out well, I don't think I'll bother with it. I hope those that will play it, will have a good time with it though.
I’m conflicted. I love the idea of a big budget MMO but I definitely won’t be playing it myself, and I’m not even sure people want MMOs at all at this point. The time investment is just too fucking big. It’s VERY different from LoL itself and something like Valiant/a BR so expecting an instant success is kinda weird to me. People want GTA/Skyrims, Minecraft, online shooters/BRs, stuff like farming sims and more casual life sims. I just don’t think the playerbase for a game like this is there anymore. Unless they radically change how MMOs play that is…
I could be wrong but you didn’t mention Arcane which was a masterpiece. Quite a bit of world building with some characters from the League of Legends game.
Best second has long need a viable business model. Riot seems to know how to pull mechanics together in no a way a lot of western devs have forgotten (or let’s face it can’t afford to do before launch). I’ll be curious about a riot mmo but tbh it’s been over a decade since I have sunk into an mmo enough to settle into a community within one.
Another point to is their work on things like Arcane, that show got a lot of non League fans hyped and got them interested in playing the game that inspired the show (me included). I don't know how much translated because League community can be a lot for people unprepared for it, but it goes to show how solid their lore is to be able to port it. Also their music department consistently kills it and that is yet another boon to the overall "package" of an MMO. The cross promotion alone can be huge and they know how to pull stuff out that suits what they're trying to do. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with for sure.
Riot is following in the footsteps of blizzard and I say that in a good way. The fact that they already have lore and characters just like WoW did with warcraft already gives them an advantage
It has been an absolute pleasure to follow Ghostcrawler. I'd highly recommend doing it, even if you're not particularly interested in Riot's MMO. He is a very likeable man and his open talks/discussions are great.
I may not like some of their games nor do I play them much, but I respect the company. Riot is incredibly good at crafting a game, marketing it and retaining players. They do alot of research and take their time to make something very polished which is very rare in this current day. They have incredible talent working under them and you see it in everything they do. Whether it be games to other any other form of media. Even their animated series was well made.
I mean when you take old-Blizzard employees, employees who care about lore/style, and then the Tencent CCP money funneled into a platform that will have the intention of making massive money on top of everything else they have ......
Let’s not forget they are also making a 2D fighting game and an action rpg game. THREE genres of games all in the Runeterra world and IP. Runeterra is just THAT fleshed out and well built, they have the ability to make this mmo SO massive and immersive and fleshed out
All I want is for the game to have a greatsword class that holds the sword in a cool way (held in one hand on the shoulder or something similar) as the idle animation not the classic "hold it up with 2 hands" like in wow.
Games that have appeal from other genres, movies or literature will bring in players that perhaps have never played an MMO before and are confused by the gameplay and don't like it. I'm hoping that's not the case by the time this finally releases.
Depends on the game I think if it free mmo the chances of it beating the big 3 is slim. I'm sure it make a lot of money, but most mmo patrons want to earn rewards through play not swipe their credit card. 2nd big thing is ffxiv has the benefit of being on console with rumor wow soon to do the same if they want to complete this game going need to need do the same. Most importantly and the one I think riot can easy do they need a wide variety of play styles and endgame that can both satisfy casuals and hardcore.
I have been observing the League story; that universe is vast, and when this game comes out, it will build a bridge over the other mmos; Riot player base + mmo player base.
Riot is basically what blizzard was in the early-mid 2000s. Hopefully they don't see the same downfall into poorly monetized and developed games in the next decade. Then again, Riot's game is already over a decade old, so we're seeing them go beyond what blizzard has done at this point. As to the topic of the video, I'm extremely excited for the MMO, I've been waiting for a new good mmo for a long time, I would love to get back into mmos after a long hiatus from them.
I will probably be a gamer for life, and to know that a game set in Runeterra as an RPG not just MMORPG could exist someday before I die is enough. That said Riot please dont take 80 years to release that game.
I don't play LoL but I wouldn't bet against Riot in they choose to pursue making an MMO, mainly because I'm an avid board gamer and the game they made they for a medium that they were new to, they spared no expense and was very good! That game being Mechs vs Minions.
Riots commitment to quality is reminiscent of the old blizzard, back then you knew that whenever Blizzard made a new game, it was going to be hit. Same goes for Riot, every one of their titles feel premium and well polished. Not to mention being the 'king' requires huge resources, global server infastracture and whatnot and Riot already has all of this and massive marketing team. AoC and other MMOs are going to be niche side games. There is no other mmo more suited to being the king right now.
Ashes had a crowdfunding effort, but it's by no means a crowd-funded MMO. I think it has just as good a shot or better to be the next thing as this game, except we actually have quite a few details about it.

I don't think you mentioned Arcane. The show is wildly successful even among people that never played League of Legends, and it's praised by critics and public for its plot and overall quality. This goes to show how invested Riot is into developing the Runeterra universe.
Also the music videos they produce

Folks, don't worry. I too am excited for Ashes of Creation. That jab in the intro was just meant as good fun. I think AoC looks great, and I can't wait to play. But also - I would be SHOCKED if it comes anywhere near mainstream success (which is what we're really talking about in this video). I think it'll be a great time for us hardcore MMO nerds though.

How dare you speak badly of AoC. You are tying your own noose, the mob will do the rest :D
On a serious note I agree with you, and Steven repeats this often himself, AoC won't be for everyone and it doesn't have to be, I think a lot of people will get a rude awakening once it comes out.

That one line is 30 minutes of content for narc though 🤣

Im assuming the boomer league players will also not be playing project L then.
I'm not excited at all for Riot's MMORPG.
@@ArmageddonEvil I’m not excited to please your mom tonight at all, but unfortunately I have too.
@@ArmageddonEvil Good for you
I do believe that the Riot MMO will probably be the biggest once it comes out.
@@ArmageddonEvil Ok????

It's crazy because they did not succed only in video games. Arcane is rated as one of the best animated series ever made and has won a lot of awards, not to mention it made a lot of money. Season 2 of Arcane is in the works and I would not be surprised if they will keep expanding in different media. They also have great tracks, so they covered the music department as well.
They also made the Ruined King game, which was very successful.
Arcane was the start of the Riot "Cinematic Universe."

My take :
- Our "Own" Hero. _(male / female)_
- Questing ofc, but Dungeons, _(many),_ do make you loot actual Lol Items. _(bloodthisters on said boss, Trinity Force has x-drop chance on said raid)_
- You build your Character. Its Stats, and Gameplay become / are based on the item types you put on him. _(that you've looted so far. Early to Late progression)_
- One of the Goal would be to try to get most Items, so that would allow you to create Specific Items Sets. _(custom builds)_
- Like, I want my character as an "AD Spellcaster", I need to equip Shojin, IE, and if I can loot Static Sheev on "12 man Raid boss Thresh" here, my build is going great.
- Until you get to be able build your character into any build that suits the idea you have for it.
- So... actual League Of Legends, but in MMO fashion lmao :)
- Build your Character, unlock Skills, etc.
This is the only ACTUAL upcoming MMO I'm excited about. The rest are just promises that won't be met.

i had to do a triple take on what you said because this is a pure biased opinion.
League of Legends ---> Dota
Legends of Runeterra ---> Magic the Gathering/Hearthstone
Teamfight Tactics ---> Dota Auto Chess

Ruined King ---> Battle Chasers: Nightwar

@@ouwle6618 I haven't heard of Ruined King until now, and at a glance, it looks like a straight up rip of Battle Chasers.
The hype isnt as much for the game as it is for who it is making the game. Riot has a huge following and they will naturally be hyped for their games.
A mature perspective is:
Hope for the best, expect the worst.
Really need a new great MMO to come into the scene, there are some great active ones still but we need something fresh, I can’t wait. :)
get a life moron
Only 6-8 years until we get one :)
There's also Hytale (whenever THAT will finally come out) Riot is looking to dominate gaming itself.
It definitely seems probable that it will be the next big MMO, here's hoping!
I liked what you said about what Blizzard used to do, polish and dominate. Riot really is taking over in some of these areas, and I hope it continues because we need a new AAA MMO.
Loved the breakdown! Happy to be featured in your video ❤
Here's hoping we get some news after Worlds ends next week- that's usually when they drop some news on their projects.
This game has a HUGE hype cloud lingering over it. It has not really been advertised but everyone can sense it on the horizon.
What game is that @1:35 ? Seems so good apart from some frame stuttering.

Well that suits what Street has said, so I wouldn't be surprised. I know it's early and that could absolutely change.
@@zacharybryant3865 I dont think they are shooting for a takeover. I think they are just shooting for a solid game to make cash from for years to come. I personally would absolutely love a super solid mmo with combat like v rising but super polished and in depth. It would be extremely amazing
That hole in you shirt had me glancing at my sowing kit to see if I was out of black thread. lol.
Cope and seethe AoC andy

They also created a LoL boardgame in 2016 that is still in the top 100 of boardgamegeek's player ranking list. They also released the Ruined King RPG that is doing really well still.
Let's support Force by clicking on the link for the ridge watch so he can perhaps afford some new T-shirts that don't have holes in them.😜
ill believe any of it when i see it in action and i can try it, ive seen to many companies who built massive games in other genres try to make an MMO and mess it up somehow
If your into lore, go to League of Legends Universe and find a champion at random, or one you think you might like and read up on them. I promise you you won't regret it. Between Legends of Runeterra, and League of Legends the "World of Runeterra is gushing with great lore, stories and characters. I can't wait to see what they are doing with it all when it comes to the MMO.
I find the lore childish
@@laoch5658 Really explain to me the background of the Vastaya. Can you explain to me the Void? What and where is Demacia? What is the huge structure where the noxian Capital is?
@@laoch5658 where is it childish? Is using children in a chemical war between noxus and ionia childish?
@@laoch5658 Oh, no. You picked a yordle champion
"go to League of Legends Universe and find a champion at random, or one you think you might like and read up on them. I promise you you won't regret it"
Picked Shaco. Instant regret
Don't forget about Ruined King. It is also a solid game.
It is definitely a good game but it wasn't made by Riot, it just used Riot's IP
Going to be the most hyped up MMO ever released. Hope it lives up to the hype.
If it gets released...
Hole in the shirt, left shoulder, OCD in shambles. Thanks for the insight as always, love these takes on upcoming MMOs 🙏
I was going through the comments and saw no mention of it until this comment. I was worried I'm hallucinating or something 😆
"Crowdfunded Mount Generator"
Well said.
I got into playing the Wild Rift version of League because of the show. I stayed away from the PC community because it is a bit more toxic there.
Riot games actually completes what they make, even if it sucks. So im sure they will do well with their mmo
You forgot Ruined King. which is also pretty good
Riot is following in the footsteps of blizzard and I say that in a good way. The fact that they already have lore and characters just like WoW did with warcraft already gives them an advantage
I love your videos Force, thanks for still doin it!
It has been an absolute pleasure to follow Ghostcrawler. I'd highly recommend doing it, even if you're not particularly interested in Riot's MMO. He is a very likeable man and his open talks/discussions are great.
5:37 what is more impressive is the consistency of the league line
I may not like some of their games nor do I play them much, but I respect the company. Riot is incredibly good at crafting a game, marketing it and retaining players. They do alot of research and take their time to make something very polished which is very rare in this current day. They have incredible talent working under them and you see it in everything they do. Whether it be games to other any other form of media. Even their animated series was well made.
I never every played LOL but i'm still a big fan of the Art and the way how successful the f2p part is
Any info if this will be cross-play for ps and Xbox, or it will be just for PC?
guys we need to start subbing & supporting Force more. this man needs a new black t-shirt asap
Runeterra is just THAT fleshed out and well built, they have the ability to make this mmo SO massive and immersive and fleshed out
Excited for the Riot MMO but don't think we'll be playing it until at least 2025 at the earliest.
All I want is for the game to have a greatsword class that holds the sword in a cool way (held in one hand on the shoulder or something similar) as the idle animation not the classic "hold it up with 2 hands" like in wow.
Garen is capable, so yeah, they probably would work that in somehow.
This will take time, there's still no gameplay release so i don't take my hopes up for this
Games that have appeal from other genres, movies or literature will bring in players that perhaps have never played an MMO before and are confused by the gameplay and don't like it. I'm hoping that's not the case by the time this finally releases.
Can someone tell me which game is that between 3:38-3:47 ?
Lil Nas is also now Leagues president, and he just seems like he is having such a fun time with it.
Awesome vid as always Force.
if riot is making an mmo im all for it
I have been observing the League story; that universe is vast, and when this game comes out, it will build a bridge over the other mmos; Riot player base + mmo player base.
Whats the title of the Game at 1:33?
Ashes had a crowdfunding effort, but it's by no means a crowd-funded MMO. I think it has just as good a shot or better to be the next thing as this game, except we actually have quite a few details about it.
Can’t wait to watch this again on Asmon’s twitch 😅
What is the game @1:38 ?
There is actually a lot of info about it.. Exactly why I’m excited for it! You are correct in your thinking and I concur.
Necrit massive lore nerd for riot if anyone is interested definitely check his stuff out
I believe Riot will launch the next Gen MMO we’ve been waiting for.
What's the headphone model?
