Bullet journaling has changed my life. I am 72 and it is never to late to learn, never too late to change. It was a hairy year, 2023. A year of facing a huge loss, and a larger one looming on the horizon. A year that challenged my strength, my formerly rock solid writing process, and my equanimity. This short video has reminded me that curiousity, careful observation, and especially a look at what worked and what didn't will help me going forward. Thank you, Ryder. I love the phrase "level up". Yes!

“Rather than adding new potential solutions, often the most productive thing we can do is remove known problems.” This is so true and very helpful to think about.

For anyone that is a little overwhelmed to start. I have been Bullet journalling for at least 5 years now, and I have yet to stick to the official BuJo method. But I come back to it each year, because I see the benefits. Even to just write my thoughts for 15 mins each day is a lesson in itself.

The real trick to the Bullet Journal - aside from better organization - is looking at the past, patterns, successes, failures, surprise revelations, being able to FIND when, where, who, what you did, to be able to FOLLOW UP, and keep track of ongoing things that need to be attended to over time. It's a little shocking to see things, looking back over the years, that I planned that never were completed. The longer I use the Bullet Journal, the better it gets. There is always room for improvement. It's useful to see what others have done with their journals.

I've been doing Bullet Journal for many years now. Essential to me! I also start each year by creating a Master Notebook...a place I keep Collections, financial planning/records, Future Log for 12 months, intentions/goals for year, project calendar, spread for "When did I last ___" (ex date of last oil change). Big picture stuff and things I don't want to keep migrating when I start a new Bullet Journal notebook in the year.

Wow, I'd love to see how you did that! I'm trying to visualize it 🤔 I've been stuck on how to incorporate financial planning and record keeping into my BUJO. I also like the idea of not having to transfer everything to my next BUJO since I go through 3 or more per year😅

    • @Mary2020Jane
      @Mary2020Jane 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

@@lauramay9717 Hi Laura. I buy a larger size notebook for use as my Master Notebook, 7" by 10" or so. I put financials in like the last 25% of notebook. By hand I make a 2 page spread chart to record each month things like income, portfolio and bank totals, and other assets, plus car mileage, and at bottom total things up. And have column at far right so I can compare grand totals with previous year. Also have a "dutch door" in the middle of this financial spread to add notes. Also do separate pages for things like predicted monthly budget items, predicted big expenses for the year, business expenses, taxes, etc. I also do a budget tracker adding up monthly expenses but have separate notebook for that, but it could go into the Master Notebook. I'm sold on the Master Notebook idea so I'm not copying things over every time I start a new BuJo notebook. And I like seeing everything in one place.

I was typing a rpely to what I thought was a reply to this, and the page went on to the next video...and now I can't find what I was replying to. Hopefully the person I was trying to reply to will see it.
I have two notebooks -- although I'm thinking I might need to expand to three. I love the compactness of a bullet journal overall, but I also don't like having to rewrite everything over and over, and I really like having all of my months already laid out. So I've been using two composition books. They're still pretty thin, and I can attach the front cover of one to the back cover of the other with a rubber band so I can maneuver the whole thing as a unit.
I use one for my monthly pages and anything else I want to last all year (e.g. yearly goes, Christmas list, ongoing collections, etc.) I use the other for the daily logging, and can switch it out mid-year. (At the rate I've been going, I usually need 2/year.) I'm considering adding a third -- or finding some way to attach another, smaller booklet -- for more "permanent" collections, because I find it mildly annoying to have to keep copying over information like my measurements or my blog colors that don't change for years at a time. This has been working pretty welll for me.

I also apllied some "bullet journal" things into my notebooks.

I want to say a couple of things. First, thank you for this concise and insightful video. It feels like all unnecessary distractions are removed in your videos just like in your bullet journal and I enjoy the piece and quiet that brings me. I will definitely "add" that to my bullet journal or in your words I will "remove the known problem of overstimulation and distraction in my bullet journal".
Also, I like the one sentence and one minute description at the beginning a lot. I do them for my work as well and it always helps me get clear on what the actual core of the thing is that I want to talk/care about.
As a viewer it is also incredibly helpful and it feels very respectful to tell me exactly what I will be spending my time on and I really appreciate that.
I will now use the remaining weeks of the year to extend my logging process to include more information about how I felt when to ease the decision what to focus on.
Thank you so much for this video. It helped me a lot in preparing for the new setup and it's great that you posted it now and not at the end of the year when it would have been "too late" to make any changes to have the necessary information ready for the new setup.

One thing I would like write into the next chapter is continuing to have my blog and newsletter spun with new content. Back in September, I said, I will submit a newsletter every Saturday. That lasted about 3 weeks, and then they started every month or so. I love writing on my blog...but sometimes I beat myself up for lack on consistency. I want to dial that back, and just focus on having content whether it is every week or every 2 months. This video was great by the way. Thank you Ryder!

Bullet Journaling has been my biggest enemy and my ultimate friend in the last two years. As someone with Aspergers, I crave for the perfect BuJo, with no mistakes in perfectly written and designed Fonts.
Learning to accept, that this isn't possible took me 2 years and by now I know wich habits encourage my craving for perfection and wich habits help me to accept mistakes.
What helped me the most were the yearly reflections! It was only then, that I realized what practice was helpful and what wasn't.
Having read the book, listened to the Audiobook and watching TH-cam Videos, Ryder was one of the biggest and most positive influences in my life! I couldn't thank him, and the BuJo Community enough!

I just discovered bullet journaling a few weeks ago on my personal quest for becoming more productive and self disciplined. It's really been giving me hope for turning my life around. Finally finding structure in my day to day is becoming less overwhelming. I started working on setting up my own and with each new page or set of pages I've been reflecting on if and how the set up works for me personally and modifying as I go. All that said I want to offer a realization I've made about the index. I realized that what I've been creating at the beginning of the book is more of a table of contents which details what I will find in the pages ahead in numerical page order. Where as, the index that you have shown as a sample in this video really is more of a true index for locating content based on topics. For the sake of better organization I renamed the "Index" in the beginning as "Contents" and added an "Index" section to the back instead which I will organize by alphabetizing topics for ease of locating the topic I'm looking for. Just thought I'd pass this idea on incase it's helpful for anyone else, although I know this is just a random TH-cam comment and it isn't as though I have any reach beyond that. But maybe someone will see this an incorporate it. Thanks so much for sharing your system and dedicating yourself to the ongoing development of the methods and community you've created. This is great stuff!

First off, I want to say thank you for your content always. Your videos are exactly what I need when I need them! I admit I went to the dark side and started using the Hobonichi Cousin system, but I have integrated the bullet journal system into it. I have a separate notebook for "the next blank page" that I use for things like this, and it works well for me (I work full time, am a full-time student, have a family, a house, etc -- the pre-planned book was just what I needed for now...). This felt like a relaxing educational podcast, I like it, and I found this video useful, being present is hard because we tend to seek things that are more exciting than what’s present.
We even go to the bathroom with our phone to play with it instead of being mindful and present looking at something in the bathroom, hearing anything you can hear and pay attention to any flavor of any meal or snack you ate recently that still remains in your taste sense. Being present with any of your five senses.
Ps: I am between writing about overcoming insomnia and getting fit to be strong internally, no need to get a physical result but internal. Exercise is essential to stop overthinking at least for hours or even days.
Pps: Being more mental than physical affects my mental health so that’s why something is better than nothing and I should start to exercise and get the benefits.

I'm going to use journalling to reflect on my life, and plan what I wish to proritise:
2023 was an intense year of massive life altering change.
I have a progressive heart condition, lung problems and possibly cancer.
They can't biopsy because of heart condition.
    Future logs.and monthly logs.
    Not really a massive priority.
Will however be focusing on family time, relaxation, gratitude.
Tasks to complete to remove family stress after I do die.
    Hopefully not for awhile.
Obvious stuff as well like meds etc.
But not as a main focus
Because how boring whould that be!
This isn't to bring anyone down. Just to offer a different perspective.
Happy and blessed new year to everyone

I love this. I do some of this kind of review, but it never occurred to me to build it in as a "formal" part of each notebook.
(And I'm with you on time boxiing! I always feel behind and like I'm scrambling to keep up with the clock. I prefer more "flow" to my life.)

I've been bullet journaling since September 2016, and have just come on here to set up my third bullet journal. Mine is very minimalist. Just a future log, a monthly log and the occasional collection. I used to do a daily log, but with the work I do now, it's not really necessary. Honestly, by this point, I can see myself doing it for the rest of my life.

I'm writing my diary in a journal style and every week I have a place for "wisdoms of the week" (don't know if I translated right). If I have a good idea in the week how I can do my life better or what's important for my personal luck, I write it down. If it lasts important until the end of the year it travelles to the beginning of the next notebook.

I'm really new to bullet journaling, only a few months into practice, but I'm already feeling the noise in my mind quiet down. I don't feel so lost in the fog anymore!
I've also noticed some things and that scares me because I'll have to make a decision about them soon.
I'm no longer passively living my days, at least not that much.
    I want more.

Just got a new bullet journal and bought the branded pen and pencil…so to be clear, I’m an investor, not just a troll…but let’s be clear, Ryder is taking advantage of societies frankly embarrassing and disappointing inability to think critically and self assess. Be not fooled…the bullet journal isJUST paper with dots that one could easily make themselves with, well, a pencil. And the “method” is simply making lists while answering on paper the questions that one would be asked by any real friend. We’ve (myself included) paid this man millions to “teach” us what we really can, should, and already do do naturally. That said, I’m into the “process” for up-wards of $100 and fully expect to have left it behind by June. I think I’ll call it a win for Ryder.

This next year, in this next chapter of my life, I want to become more productive in my new career as a Property Manager and I am hoping that the BuJo method will help me do that. I am going to give it a go and see what happens. Thanks.

I want to write prioritization into my new chapter. I want to distinguish between the things that I care about and the things that my life would be better without. Hi, i'm very new to learning about bullet journalling. my partner and close friends are starting to use facets of it, and im curious to learn more about all these mentioned words, potential page designs and get my head around it all. i have a new notebook and have started to pencil in some potential pages. my number one intention for this year is about Being a Better Artist. I appreciate your approach and gentleness. Thank you. i will look for the 'sign up for introductory emails' too.
