I was very intimidated by the Zoom feature of Power Point...until now. I was spending hours creating a clickable table of contents for my presentations creating buttons and using hyperlinks. Now, I can create one in minutes, even seconds! Thank you for sharing.
Yeah, I've been using (the latex version of) this for years. One of the main ways I use it is to provide more time flexibility in research presentations where I can't know how many questions I'll get from the audience along the way. I'll end the body of the talk with several short non-critical sections (on related work and possible future directions) and jump over some or all of them straight to the wrap-up if time is running short. Since I sometimes get questions about the omitted sections afterwards, I can jump right back to them from the wrap-up.
Just stumbled across this video tutorial and I'm so glad I found it! I have always wished PPT had a feature like this because I often use PPT to facilitate online meetings and want to do a "Choose your own adventure" based on group interest. I always did a very clunky version of this by sharing screen, unshare, navigate to the right slide, then reshare again. This makes it SO MUCH easier!! Thanks so much, from a fellow MSU Community Psych grad😊
Whaat, a fellow MSU community psych grad?! (high five) This would be perfect for an online meeting, definitely give it a try -- thanks for watching and posting such a lovely comment :) it made my day!
Brilliant. Exactly what i wanted, without having to switch to Prezi. No offence Prezi, but I don't want to force anyone who wants to use my presentation to switch software.
Haha 😂 I'm so glad I could help! I'm learning a lot, too. After using keynote for so long I'm excited to find our and learn more about ppt, and it's even more fun to share what I've learned!
Hello, I have created a non-linear PowerPoint about 6 years ago. I wish I had the information that you presented in the video. I worked extremely harder than I had to. I created the presentation on Geometric measurements for perimeter, area, surface area, and volume using a non-linear method. I am going to redo the presentation using the steps from this video. In addition, I am going to create a presentation on automotive systems for a graduate course that I am taking. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad to hear that my video was helpful. It definitely sucks to realize we did things the hard way but glad that you now know there is an easier way to do this!
I hope to use a non-linear presentation with powerpoint, to show off changes and updates I've made to a website I collaborate on. I plan to use screenshots. Does that seem sufficient? I want to give a tour of the website and show off the features, buttons, photos and links I've added. Would you suggest a different method? I'm imagining some type of movement or highlighting to demonstrate movement. Thanks! Would you suggest a different method?
Took me awhile to figure out that I don't have the Zoom option because it is only available for Office 365 or PPT version 2019. Question: If I *did* have these versions, created my non-linear PPT, but then *played* the PPT at a lecture site that *did not* have Office 365 or PPT version 2019, would the zoom features/non-linear PPT still work?
Possibly -- I would definitely test that out a few times to find out for sure. At the bottom of this page, Microsoft has a table about which versions can do what: support.office.com/en-us/article/use-zoom-for-powerpoint-to-bring-your-presentation-to-life-9d6c58cd-2125-4d29-86b1-0097c7dc47d7
Really cool feature, going to make my lecture where I let students vote on which diseases they want to cover so much more interactive and easy to set up! Now to figure out how I can use this feature in a quiz so that students cannot progress until they get the right answer
Thanks for your very nice presentation. I upgraded to 365 for this, but it's a shame that I spent 1 hour to find out that powerpoint 365 on mac does not have the zoom feature yet. Just so people watching the video like me know this.

Love this non-linear method. 🙋♂️ I'm a fan of the zoom though! Its smooth and clean, and makes it feel more immersive. Also, did I see you use a bullet point list 🤔 It had numbers on it, but still...
I mean, true some folks may like the zoom effect! for many others it is dizzying and nauseating (and that's a really common problem). So it's better to design for them and not make people feel that way. Still works fabulously without the zoom effect, so it's a win for all
Hi Echo, you seem to be thinking more of the STEM people. However, I am thinking I could use this as a humanities person. Specifically I am planning a lecture that would be broken down into 3 microlectures. Rather than making 3 separate power points making one that I could record in chunks would be a time saver. I am thinking section on literary definitions, key figures, and intersectional theories.
Sorry about the very, very delayed reply (2020 was a beast of a year!). But I do want to add that I think of STEM, humanities, social sciences and beyond! My PhD is in psychology, but I create materials for any academic/researcher/scientists. If it's educational info and/or data, then everything I teach applies!
Agreed! And I think you can disable the motions in Prezi...but then it basically works like a powerpoint, or like this....so it's kinda like...might as well just use ppt if you have this feature! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
I just leveled up twice in 10 minutes. You just added a million dollars worth of game to my life.
