Thank you for being so "straight to the point" instead of spending 5 minutes explaining which tool you"re using, why, what you were doing when you bought it, & what the weather outside was, etc. Simple, educational, quick, to the point. Perfect. ❤️
From one maker to another, awesome craft! I've watched over a half dozen wood and cricut videos tonight and this was the best so far. The others weren't terrible, just too much for what I like. Gonna check your channel and see what else you're doing!
Thanks so much! I show how I make my stencils in this video if you want to see: m.th-cam.com/video/24ndgp77H0U/w-d-xo.html You can also usually buy stencils off Etsy if you don’t have a machine that can cut vinyl. Good luck! 😊
So I want to make a sign for outside. Should I cover this with something like sealer? Let me know. Thanks for the info. I was buying chemicals that I don't need! bummer!
Hey there, thanks for watching! Yes, I would definitely recommend sealing for outside use. My favorite one to use is Miniwax brand helmsman indoor/outdoor spar urethane. You can get it in either a spray or a can that you paint on with a brush.
Hey! They seemed about the same to me, but I’d be curious to hear from anyone who has tried both! The link to the one I used is in the video description!
Hey! Thanks so much for watching ❤️ Here is the link to the marker: amzn.to/3H9A8vw and the vinyl: amzn.to/3kfZgXp. I use Cricut’s removable vinyl for all my stencils!
This particular one says it is non-toxic but doesn’t specifically say food safe. There are some brands that do say they are food safe though! Just look up pyrography pens or markers and you should be able to find one that is food safe 😊
Hey there! The biggest thing that will help this is making sure your surface is sanded down very smoothly before using the pen. You want to start with a lower sandpaper grit and move up to a higher grit. The other thing that will help is making sure your stencil is adhered well to the wood before starting! The scraper tool can help with that, but you can also use your fingers to go around the edges of the stencil to make sure they are all down well 😊
Hey! The stencil should be well adhered to keep the ink from leaking through. After you’ve colored the design, if you are worried about the wood discoloring you could always seal it with a spray sealer to keep it from discoloring! I usually use water based sealant - it is a little harder to find, but the oil based sealant tends to discolor a bit.
I have had some issues with bleeding before - for me it seems to come down to how well the wood is sanded. You want to start with a low grit sandpaper and work up to a fine higher grit sandpaper. When the wood is sanded correctly the bleeding is much less!!
Loooooooove, do u have a slow step by step tutorial how to make the stencil.i said slow step bc I have learning disabilities and need slow step by step.its hard to find on TH-cam. I would love to learn from u .my circut just sits there alot ugh
Thanks for watching! I do have this video on how I make my stencils: th-cam.com/video/24ndgp77H0U/w-d-xo.html. You can pause as you go to be able to go slowly! I also have this video that helps with how to make cursive fonts in Design Space: th-cam.com/video/30ZasaF-3uU/w-d-xo.html.
Thanks for watching! The oldest one of these I’ve made is only a few months old, but it hasn’t faded at all in that time. It would likely depend on where you put your finished piece - if it went outdoors it would most likely fade like most outdoor decor will! Mine is indoors on our fireplace mantle and it hasn’t faded 🙂
Hey Demi! This particular pen is not considered food safe, so my guess is to be safe you would need some type of coating over it. There are some out there that are food safe and might be a better option for something like that, but I would always err on the side of caution for anything that will be used with small kiddos!
could you give me some advice, every time I do this my pyrography marker always runs, I've always prepped it before and even when I only use it gently my design still runs! what am I doing wrong? it's so frustrating :( great video though x
I would make sure you are sanding your surface really well before using the marker. You may want to start with a low grit sandpaper and then go over it again with a lower grit sandpaper to get your surface really smooth before using your marker!
Thanks for watching! I found this pen on amazon in the U.S. Here is the link to the amazon listing: amzn.to/3nv2R4o. If you search for pyrography pen or woodburning marker, that may help!

Sorta disappointed, I got through most of the video skipping as much as I could, to get to the current part. I received a wood burning kit for my birthday and, wanted to learn how to use it, with a cricut stencil...

Can’t wait to try this. So clear and concise
Thanks so much for simplyifying this tutorial, its helped A LOT 👌 x
I love your videos. Short and to the point. Thankyou
This is super cute!
Is the pen res useable ?
Love it! Can’t wait to try it. Just need to figure out how to make the stencil.
Thanks so much! I show how I make my stencils in this video if you want to see:

How do you like your heat marker as compared to scorch marker? Where can I get one and how much did it cost?
Hey! They seemed about the same to me, but I’d be curious to hear from anyone who has tried both! The link to the one I used is in the video description!
I live it
It didn't look like regular vinyl, can you tell me the name of the pen and vinyl you used?
Great video!
Hey! Thanks so much for watching ❤️ Here is the link to the marker: amzn.to/3H9A8vw and the vinyl: amzn.to/3kfZgXp. I use Cricut’s removable vinyl for all my stencils!
Can you put a finish on it afterwards? Like oil or poly?
You should be able to! Let us know how it works if you give it a try!
Which brand markers are you using and where can I buy them?
Hey! I got it on Amazon! There are several brands available, but this is the one I used: amzn.to/3H9A8vw
Could I use that pen for cutting boards? Like is it food safe?
This particular one says it is non-toxic but doesn’t specifically say food safe. There are some brands that do say they are food safe though! Just look up pyrography pens or markers and you should be able to find one that is food safe 😊
Did you use permanent Vinyl?
What don’t did you use for the Ellison name?
Thanks for watching! The font is “Great Vibes.” You can get it on creative fabrica!
Are you able to stain or paint a surface and then burn into it using your method?
Hey there! I haven’t tried this method - my guess is it would work better over stain than over paint. Let us know if you decide to try it!
Olivia, don't stain or paint first! It will not work. Burn your design first, then finish the wood with a wax or oil.
I tried this but the pen bleeds and did not make straight lines...would you know how to prevent this?
Hey there! The biggest thing that will help this is making sure your surface is sanded down very smoothly before using the pen. You want to start with a lower sandpaper grit and move up to a higher grit. The other thing that will help is making sure your stencil is adhered well to the wood before starting! How do get the wood around the design not to discolor ?
You don’t seem to have an issue with bleeding. Could it be the type of wood or type of marker? Have u ever had bleeding problems on wood?
I have had some issues with bleeding before - for me it seems to come down to how well the wood is sanded. You want to start with a low grit sandpaper and work up to a fine higher grit sandpaper. When the wood is sanded correctly the bleeding is much less!!
The font used for the name is beautiful. Could you please tell us the name of it?
It is called great vibes! You can download it free from google fonts

@@DebsJoyfulDesigns thank u sooooo much
You are so welcome! Have fun!!
Very cool! Does this fade after a period of time?
Thanks for watching! The oldest one of these I’ve made is only a few months old, but it hasn’t faded at all in that time. It would likely depend on where you put your finished piece - if it went outdoors it would most likely fade like most outdoor decor will! Mine is indoors on our fireplace mantle and it hasn’t faded 🙂
Does anyone know if this would be safe to do on building blocks for babies or would I need to put some sort of non-toxic varnish over it?
Hey Demi! This particular pen is not considered food safe, so my guess is to be safe you would need some type of coating over it. There are some out there that are food safe and might be a better option for something like that, but I would always err on the side of caution for anything that will be used with small kiddos!

So exactly what kind of marker did you use?
Hey! I used a pyrography marker. You can check out the links in the video description!
Im all the way in South Africa, I cant seem to find this marker anywhere :(
Thanks for watching! I found this pen on amazon in the U.S. Here is the link to the amazon listing: amzn.to/3nv2R4o. If you search for pyrography pen or woodburning marker, that may help!

They are called Pyrography Markers
What font was used
It is called Great Vibes! You can download it free from google fonts
What type of pen is this?
It is a pyrography pen. You can find them on amazon or at some craft stores. I got this one off amazon!
is it food safe ?

@@DebsJoyfulDesigns Perfect thanks for the reply. Almost bought a cricut today but doesn't ship to my country :(
Unfortunately these pens don't give a burnt brown look, just looks like a black marker pen has been used. It's a pity
No wood burning? Just stenciling?
Haven’t watched a video yet I didn’t enjoy. Congratulations you’re doing so well.
Sorta disappointed, I got through most of the video skipping as much as I could, to get to the current part. I received a wood burning kit for my birthday and, wanted to learn how to use it, with a cricut stencil...
I’ve seen alternative ways to do this that seem more efficient and with better results. Keep searching, good luck!
I tried to watch this as it interest me. You music is too loud and not even necessary since you're talking.
Thanks for the feedback!
